Folks on the list have said that they weren't very helpful with the infamous hot battery problems back in the day, but even with no real knowledge I'd still guess that the actual cost of this fix is much lower than a new battery was back then. It also wouldn't suprise me, cynic that I am, if yourdealer is inflating the cost because they think they can. Or maybe try another dealer? Yours doesn't sound like it's working very hard to get and keep your business. Keep us posted, please. [EVDL] 2013-2015 Nissan Leaf recalled for braking
Thanks Dave etc, I put the VIN number in to your recommended link and it does *not* come up as a recall for the 46K Leaf cold brake failures *but* my 2013 Leaf has the exact problem described also with the red ! lit dash indicator light as described in the online article, said it was a software fix (new brake-control download). The stealership said if I can't find the recall for my VIN, then I'll have to pay $250 to come in + the fix (total about $1K). I thought that a software update download was free? Also thanks for the recommendation on the LED lights replacement for dim headlights (that work above 9V). That sounds like the way to go. Sounds like BS to > me. I'm not an expert on these matters, but as I understand it, "no longer a recall" isn't a thing. Recalls don't expire. If your Leaf hasn't had the recall, you should still be able to have it done until it's at least 15 years old. Dealers don't like doing recall service. They get paid less for it than for repairs they bill to a customer, so the sleazy ones will try to weasel out of it. What this says about your dealer there will be left as an exercise for the reader. Have you called the Nissan number mentioned in the story? 800 647-7261 Or you could try another Nissan dealer. You might also try going here and entering your VIN. https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/ If the recall service has already been carried out on your car, and the problem has recurred, then I don't know what your options would be. Many manufacturers account for voltage drop between battery and load (headlight) due to the (cheap) thin gauge and ~5 Amps per headlight. So, you may find only around 11V on the light assembly and the bulb is designed for this. And that means you can increase brightness of your headlights simply by splicing a thicker wire into the longest run of wire. Best to fist measure where you lose (drop) voltage, because it does not help much to replace all wiring only to find out that you lose most voltage across a corroded ground terminal, giving you a bad return of the headlight current. Or a corroded relay that you can simply swap out for brighter lights. Cor. We had the ssme issue with our 2016, and changed to LED bulbs to resolve it (the LEDs will run at full brightness at anything over 9V). Hope this helps, Roger. Re: [EVDL] Nissan Leaf 2013 dim headlights at 14V
Both sides or just one side? Not seen this myself, but if it is one side, maybe the LED driver on that side is failing? It is a component module attached to the headlight assembly. I think you could swap the module between the sides to see if the problem follows the module. If it is both sides, it could be that both LED drivers failed around the same time, due to a common factor, such as being in the same production batch. (I've seen halogen headlights that were installed at the same time burn out within an hour of each other.)
