Re: [Finale] cross-staff tremolo FinMac 2k4c

2004-09-13 Thread Owain Sutton
That's some serious kludging you're doing there!...
Unless anybody here can give some insider knowledge on how to get TG
Tools to work for this, I think you really need to cut your losses and
create the tremolos manually.

As for articulations on cross-staff notes, I've had that same problem
before now. I ended up working-around by creating 'new' articulations
which are copies of the originals, set up to either always be above or
always below the stave, etc.

I am having problems with the appearance of a cross-staff tremolo for
piano. An example is at the following URL:

http://www.stephen.cronin.name/example/tremolo.tif
I created the tremolo on the lower staff (Piano I), used TGTools to
create the appearance of the tremolo and then moved the second chord to
the upper staff. The problem is that I want to move the tremolo lines
between the staves but couldn't select them.

Subsequently I fiddled with the tremolo a bit more and discovered that
the tremolo lines can be shifted and reshaped on cross-staff whole notes
using the Beam Tool in the Special Tools...not terribly intuitive since
whole notes don't have beams.

However, I have a related problem with quarter- and eighth-note
cross-staff tremolandi as illustrated by the examples below:

http://www.stephen.cronin.name/example/b260.tif
http://www.stephen.cronin.name/example/b265.tif
In bar 260 the extra bit of stem on the third beat seems unmovable, at
least the Stem Length Tool doesn't recognise it.

In bar 265 the loose piece of stem on the first beat is similarly
unresponsive.

Any suggestions?
Further to these problems, when I assign articulations to the cross
staff notes/chords, some of the time the articulations refuse to stay on
the note-side and bounce back to the beam when I update the score.

Again, any suggestions to sort this out would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Stephen

HP's consumer line of PCs was always a pile of crap. Indeed, I never
thought their business lines were any good, either. I used to see
lots of HP PCs when I still worked for Corporate Solutions, and the
HP PCs were quite unreliable, even though they were quite expensive.

I don't know what you're talking about.

In any event, you seem to be describing problems with HP's PCs, not
with their scanners or printers. I was responding only to the issue
of scanners, which I've seen work perfectly well in any number of
environments, easily being moved from one PC to another (as long as
HP provided drivers for the relevant OS). With printers, HP has an
even better track record (though I'll tend to use the Windows-
provided drivers for any printer that's old enough to have them).

> My own experience, nothing more. . . .

Well, you seem to be letting bad experiences with HP PCs pollute your
statements about scanners. I am in the business of taking care of
people's PCs, and I see *lots* of PCs and scanners and printers. HP's
scanners and printers are the best.

> . . . But I have been told of similar

Compaq was far worse than HP before HP absorbed them. Their PCs were
extremely proprietary and non-expandable in any number of ways. Maybe
some of this was taken into the HP-branded PC lines once Compaq was
absorbed by them.

But I've seen no evidence of this Compaq proprietariness in HP's
scanners or printers.

I see nothing in what you report that fingers anything other than HP
PCs. That has zilch to do with the quality and interoperability of
HP's scanners and printers.

To turn off the contrast effect:
