Wonderful news Taffy about the results of the biopsy. Maybe you have read
about the success I have had with the sarcoid xxterra salve. It could be of
help if this tumor is a sarcoid and caught before too large. Jean

Hi Julie

I feel like I know you already, having heard so many wonderful things about
you and your horses from Curt and Marsha and, of course, all of your postings
to the list.

We have 2 - 3year old fillies, a 2 year old colt and a broodmare (the mother
of one of our fillies) and her 7 week old colt - Keeps us busy. Curt has
encouraged us to try to attend your show in August. Right at present that
looks pretty dim, but if you have time I would appreciate your mailing us a
program. If you still need class sponsorship, let us know. Even if we don't
make it to the show this year, we would love it to continue so we can come
and participate some year in the future.

We, for sure, plan on attending the evaluation this fall in Morrisville. It
will be our pleasure to meet you and hopefully get to see Flotren.

Many thanks

You know who has THE best contract? Anne Appleby. It is so detailed, and
relatively strict. But it prevents problems any possible confusion and is
great protection to both the stallion owner and the mare owner. The contract
lists the medical attention a mare needs to get pregnant and stay pregnant.
If the mare owner doesn't get the medical attention (shots, worming, good
routine care) and signed off on by a vet (if I remember correctly) the LFG is
off. If the mare looses the baby while still getting rhinobort shots, etc,
you get to bring your mare back again. I love this contract. Very well
thought out.

Exporting horses/Quarantine

Subject: Exporting Horsesquarantine

I am considering exporting myself, my fjord and two minnies to the Umbria
region of Italy. Does anyone have information on exporting horses out of the
country? I have yet to look into health issues regarding Hoof and Mouth etc.
in that country which would definately impact my decision.
I would also be interested in others opinion on how stressful quarantine is
on the horses. Do we get to visit them? Do they get turn out/ well treated
etc.
Any ideas and info about other peoples experiences would be greatly
appreciated.

Earlier this year on the digest I saw some information on the Butterfly bit.
Could someone please tell me where or what company they got them from?

We had ordered some from a business out of Iowa three weeks ago and have not
yet received them in the mail. We have been unable to contact the owner of the
business for the last week and their website is off-line for a couple more
weeks. The only good thing out of this is that we had not paid for them, the
bill was in the box with the bits, so we are not out money, but somewhere out
in snail mail land there is a box with bits in it floating around. The person
who shipped them, did not mail them is such a way that the package could be

This message is from: "Carol J. Makosky" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi List,
I sure have learned and enjoyed all the AI conversation and everyone's
summer activities. I've been tempted to take Heidi down to a boat
launch site nearby and let her wade in on a lunge line as far as she
wants. I am not brave enough to actually go swimming with her and it is
a pretty sharp drop off there. I'll have to think about this a bit
more. Anyway. I thought I would share the tale of my participation
with my riding partner over the 4th and 5th of a horse rescue. She
found a yearling wandering around her horses on the 4th and called
everywhere she could think of to see if a horse was reported missing.
Her and I drove over to a place we thought he may have come from with no
luck. We also checked one other place we thought may have horses and he
did not come from there. My reasoning was that if he got out and there
were other horses around, he would not wander off. So I think he was
dumped by her place because her horses are in plain site and close to a
well traveled highway. He was extremely thin and probably has worms.
There is a large animal rescue group in the area and they came to get
him. So far we have not heard of anyone reporting him missing. So. Is
this a sign of the times with the economy like it is? I SURE HOPE NOT!

Bit of a brag

2002-07-09 Thread Karen Keith

This message is from: "Karen Keith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Just needed to brag a bit, and figured you guys would understand.

This weekend my unregistered, formerly grossly overweight,
bought-at-auction-in-April Fjord mare went to her first competition, a
one-day driving trial. This competition consisted of a dressage test, cones
course and a 5.8 km marathon with four obstacles.

(Drum roll, please)

I'm so proud to say that she performed a decent dressage test, her first
time ever in a dressage ring (put us in 2nd place). Never batted an eye at
either the judge's canopy or potted plants. This was the first time she'd
ever even seen cones, and after hopping sideways going through the first set
(killing a cone), she settled down. Two more balls came down during our go,
dropping us to 4th place, but she'd been trying very hard to understand what
I wanted. Finally, there was the marathon. By the time we got to the third
hazard, the light bulb seemed to have switched on, and she just followed my
reins without question. Although at the last km she was running out of gas,
we still managed to come in on time, which clinched first place in our
division!

I didn't breed or raise or even begin the training on this mare, but she's
got a wonderful mind and is a joy to work with. I'm looking forward to
improving our work as a team.

Yay Fjords!

Cheers!

Karen

PS - She also had a very "cool" haircut and got lots of attention from the
non-Fjordie folks.
