However, Insert plus 8 activates the keyboard manager, while JAWS key plus 8 is the same as clicking the left mouse button. Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS
Nope, your problem is your understanding confuses two things. The insert key is the Jaws key. Where you are getting confused is keyboard layout. On laptops, which sometimes don't have an insert key, the laptop layout makes the Caps-Lock key function as the Jaws key. And, because smaller laptops lack full-sized keyboards with separte numpads, some of the function key assignments such as left-mouse click emulation have been re-assigned in the Laptop keyboard layout of Jaws. One of those is left-click which is normally the insert-numpad slash combination but is re-assigned under the laptop configuration. As a matter of fact, if you had a full-sized keyboard on your laptop, or hooked up one and used the laptop layout in Jaws, you'd see that you can perform the same functions with the Caps lock key or with the insert key. This proves that both keys are the Jaws key. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS
Hello, Pressing the caps lock key with the semicolon key in laptop configuration gives the PC cursor. Using the FN key with the semicolon gives the JAWS cursor. Using the FN key with P does a right mouse button click. Using caps lock key with P gives the JAWS cursor. I don't think on most laptops the FN key simulates the caps lock key. People should be aware when trying these key combinations that although the caps lock key with F9 lists frames, on some laptops the FN key with F9 mutes sound output. Although the FN key is used on laptops to give a user a number pad set up to work with, it doesn't really simulate the uses of the caps lock key in the JAWS laptop configuration. Take care. I think it is preferable to call keys by their standard names. If you are using JAWS in its laptop configuration, the so called JAWS key is actually the CAPS LOCK key, and I think it would be more helpful to use that description. Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS
Hi Andy, I understand where you are coming from, but users should familiarize themselves with the specific keys labeled by their screen-reader. Many times we confuse ourselves, by not reading the documentation provided with the product, and then listening to terms that are used inter-changeably by different people. Just my opinion. Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS
Instead of using the 0 key ont eh numpad, you would use the Caps Lock on the laptop keyboard. It does take some getting used to at first. You can find keystrokes for laptops in the Jaws Help Section in your Jaws program.
