Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working
You can create a hotkey and use the old "alt+control+ "J" as follows. 1. Go to the Jaws17 short cut on your Desktop ( Windows Key +"D" then Control+Home)). 2. When focused on the Jaws17 shortcut icon, press your Application Key and up arrow to properties and press enter. 3. tab over to short cut / hotkey and enter the key combination you want. You will need administrator approval which if you are on a home machine is you. 4. Press enter and try it out. I am having the same problem on my Windows 7 machine. The alt plus J has always worked but it no longer works. It is still there in the properties shortcut tab but it doesn't work. I have reset it several times but no go. I also have Jaws on the same machine with a shortcut key "F" and it works. Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working
Hi, Using the run dialog is ok, when needed in a tight situation. In wind 10, you might need to repeat the process a couple times, until it works. Try this below: Press windows key + D and press j, Press J again and it will say jaws and the version number. Shift F10 and arrow up to properties enter. Tab to the quick key dialog box and press J only. You will need to provide administrator permission to change these settings. Click Continue to complete this operation. Tab to apply and then shift tab to ok spacebar. Now press insert + F4 and close jaws. Now try your quick key command enter. Hi Greg and Melissa I have had Jaws not responding when I have had to bring Jaws back. I have used the J and enter and that works best. After several frustrating days my local dealer passed on the problem to Freedom Scientific and hello, it is a known issue and it is being worked on. Known to Freedom but I only discovered it on Sunday, your Saturday. Regards Janine Sent from my iPhone > On 12/02/2016, at 11:46 AM, Greg Washington <gregw...@comcast.net> wrote: > > Great. Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working
this also works on a win 7 machine. However it then brings up jaws 16. So if you want 17 and 16 is on your system. use the windows key and the letter J. Then down arrow once and enter. This will bring up jaws 17. -Original Message- From: Greg Washington Sent: Thursday, February 11, 2016 5:46 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working Great. This problem only started a couple of days ago and nothing had been installed or deleted from the computer. The hot key had been working just fine. I had been on a website and I was trying to purchase something and it wasn't working too well so I turned off JAWS with the insert+F4 and when I went to use Control+Alt+j it wouldn't work. I did wait for several seconds and nothing happened. I tried using the hot key again a few times and nothing. I went to see if the hot key was still there and it's there. I've turned off the computer and also restarted it but the hot key still doesn't work. If I try to delete the hot key and re-enter it, for some reason I'm taken off the JAWS screen and taken to the Desktop and I have to go back to JAWS in the taskbar and no matter if I try and re-enter the hot key again, it still takes me to the Desktop. Does anyone have any suggestions for me please? Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working
Hi, Technical Support states that the hot key not starting JAWS is a documented issue and they are working on it. I am also having the issue you describe with starting JAWS on Windows10. Another means of restarting JAWS after turning it off for now is to go to the run menu with windows plus r and press the backspace key once or twice to clear any information that has been typed previously. Then type jaws17 in lowercase and without any spaces and press enter. This should start the program. Hope that helps On 2/11/16, Melissa Hambletonwrote: > I have the latest JAWS and have Windows 8.1. > > > > This problem only started a couple of days ago and nothing had been > installed or deleted from the computer. Thank you Greg, this work around does work quite well. I have another computer still using Windows 7 and the shortcut or hot key for Jaws still works. Below is a work around I got from another list. 1. Do a windows+M key to go to the desktop 2. Hit the home key to go to the first icon on your desktop. 3. Hit the letter J and you should be on Jaws 16 if you have it installed. If not then you should be on Jaws 17 if you do not have any other icon starting with j. If you have Jaws 16 and Jaws 17 loaded then hit the j twice to get to Jaws 17. 4. Hit enter key and Jaws will load. Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working
Great. Also, on my windows 10 computer pressing the windows key, then pressing the letter J key and hitting enter also brings up Jaws speaking. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Melissa Hambleton Sent: Thursday, February 11, 2016 4:36 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Hot key to turn JAWS back on not working Thank you Greg, this work around does work quite well.
