Re: [lace] last reminder for lace card exchange!
Hi Bev, thank you for your patient reminders. Today I posted the 2nd Lace Christmas Card. It remains in Europe and should soon arrive in Britain. The 1st Card started its longer jouney to South Africa last Saturday. It was a bit late, but I still hope that it soon will arrive. It was definitely great fun to join again and I have already the 2 cards which I received in my living room on display and treasure the letters which came with them. I will mail the scan of the cards I made. But I did the same pattern on each of them. [lace] lace card in Germany
Hello Kathy, dear arachneans, as Kathy can guess, I had a very bright day today. In my postbox there was a padded letter which contained your beautiful bobbin lace card and a very nice letter. I enjoy both and it really made my day. The Montessori school, which my two youngest children attend, there was we call an advent market day, which means that one can buy small items the children have made and biscuits they have baked. I took the opportunity to demonstrate bobbin lace making and invited kids and adults to have a go themselves. After the christmas break I will offer a bobbin lace class for the pupils there. So I was really geared into the event by that very pretty card, which I will treasure. BTW mail was really fast. It took only 5 days to get from Oregon, USA to Germany! Thank you very much, Kathy! Greetings from Germany, Martina NB:Kathy, would you please send a pm to my address. I can't find your e-mail address. mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] or mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Both are valid and arrive at my PC. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace] metal threads for Christmas motifs
Dear Arachneans, recently I started teaching my first bobbin lace course. There are 3 beginners and one lady who did some bobbin lacemaking a few years ago. Now the would like to do some Christmas ornaments and I have done a few before but never used any metal threads. Which ones do you use? Are there differences in how stiff they are? Another question is: The advanced lady chose a pricking from the German lace magazin Die Spitze 1/2003 on page 57. Has anyone of you worked that pattern yet? We were not too sure, on how many pairs we should place on which needlepoint. Thank you for your help. Re: [lace] s'Gravenmoer
Hello Steph, hello dear Arachneans, which course in Germany will you take? I am just curious. I won't do any more courses this year. Just popping up to say, that the first patchwork-course I taught finished this week. 4 ladies sewed pillows in the Logcabin pattern. Last friday finally I started teaching bobbin lace. 2 ladies started learning bobbin lace from scratch. Another lady joined. She had taken me to bobbin lace courses when I was a beginner. Due to her growing family (3 young children) she did not get round to do a lot. Now it is great to have her in my group. We decided to meet in my living room as long as it is only a few ladies. Today I started on a small pattern myself again, just to have some small motives to sew on patchwork postcards. Have a nice weekend and greetings from the South of Germany, Martina Steph wrote: Anyway, on to things lace. I'm off to Germany in about a month's time for a course. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace] Pattern for bobbin lace classes
Dear Arachneans, finally I decided to advertise a beginners course in bobbin lace in autumn. I would like to know, which patterns/prickings you use in the courses you teach? Do you draw your own prickings and your own course? (Copyright reasons) or what could I use? I don't think it is realistic to ask the beginners before they even have a first go to by a printed course book. Thanks for your help. [lace] Bobbin lace exibition in Schönsee/Germany - long
Hello, this afternoon I was invited to the opening of the Bavarian-Slovenian Bobbin Lace Exibition. To start with the end: the Slovenian food which was offered to the guests was delicious. Of course there were various speeches but they were quit interesting, giving some historical background to the lacemaking in both the Schonsee area and the Idria area. They also explained how they got together to organize this exibition. I took many photos and DH has to load them on the pc to find out how good they turn out. The exibitions presents a very wide variety of excellent laces. Modern lace flower arrangements, really large tablecloths - I estimate 1.50 x 1.20 m. Some of them lace only some mended with cloth. A lot of typycal tape lace, but many others, too. They have tablerunners, hanky-edges, doilies in every size, many bobbin lace pictures such as sunflowers, tulips, clowns, rabbit, people, religious motives, fish, ducks, fruits. Quite a few items are beautifully made by German and Slovenan children (7 - 15 yrs). It is very interesting to note, that the Slovenian lacemakers generally use a finer thread than the Bavarians. So their lace looks very delicate. There were even some clothes with or made of bobbin lace: A dress with some lace at the front, blouses, tops, hats, scarfs, a christening gown with lace motives applied and a lace edging. They also have the laces of the competition of the German Kloppelverband Circles. I enjoyed the whole day very much. I hope to go there again in some days. The exibition is open until 28th of May. [lace] OT Taxes in Britain
Dear Arachneans, first I have to apologize for asking something totally off theme on this list, but I am not on lace-chat at present. Can anybody tell me, if it is possible to apply for an income tax refund. My daughter worked in Bradford/GB as an assistant teacher in 2002/2003. The administration of the school there still did not send her the form needed for applying for her income tax refund. If it is still possible to get the money back, what could she do to get the form required. She has phoned and written to the lady there quite often. Thank you for your help off list.
