RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7.0.0.103 crashing

2009-08-20 Thread Sherry/Support
Just the opposite of what I discovered. I got Error 3019 and the locations
out of order on my 32-bit Vista but can't cause the error on my 64-bit
Vista.

The steps Jim gives in his email is a work-around until the programmers can
fix it.

Thanks for using Legacy.

I have just checked and the same file seems to work OK on XP. I have
my main .fdb file along with all linked pics and files on an 8 gb USB
drive. I do this so I can switch between desktop and laptop via
sneakernet.
The file works fine on a XP (32) laptop but locations are trash on a
Vista 64 desktop.
I have the latest version on both machines.

Marilyn, you may access the Master Location List via the use of an icon
"hidden" under the Main Toolbar. Right Click in a vacant area on the tool
bar and you will see a display of icons that can be dragged onto your tool
bar. The one you want looks like a skyline of tall buildings.

I wonder if, when installing Legacy, your virus protection was 'on" -- could

When I go to location they are not in alpha order and the page is bare

Phil,

You make some very good points here. With any program, and Legacy is no
different, regular house keeping is essential.

In addition to the points which you have raised I would add, a regular use of
File>File Maintenance>Check Repair and Master List Clean up. Many of the
problems reported to this list would have not arisen had basic house keeping
been carried out on a regular basis.

I'm fortunate that I don't have to remember to do these things, as with the
constant attempts to replicate the various problems I would never be able to
run the program if I didn't ;-)

Many thanks for the timely reminder

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7.0.0.103 crashing

2009-08-19 Thread Phil Hawkins
I use the latest version of Legacy and XP. Have no problems with the Master
locations list
However, I regularly go through my Master location list, checking that they
are all in the correct syntax that I want, remove unused ones and combine
duplicates. I also check that the location listed on the map underneath is
the one I want and the pin is in the correct place. If not I correct it
using 'Google Earth' if necessary to find the correct place for that
location.

I backup every week or after a major work over of my database. Regular
maintenance of all computer programs is a must. Particularly Legacy since,
as a database that is being altered on regular occasions you need to keep it
in good condition

Regarding the 'select' button being greyed out. If you have opened the list
from the icons on the top of the program it is bound to be greyed out, you
have no event or individual to select the location for!
If you used the globe icon attached to an event, then the select button
becomes active so you can select the location to attach to the event

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7.0.0.103 crashing

2009-08-19 Thread Boyd Miller
I had the same problem and it is easily fixed.

Make sure your data is not under C:/Legacy/Data folder. If it is, copy the
data and pictures etc to somewhere else, and don't put them back in the
C:/Legacy/Data folder when you get the program running again.

Uninstall Legacy. Have a look at C:/Legacy and you will see that it has
left a series of folders and a few files.
Copy the file Legacy.usr to somewhere out of the way (this has you customise
settings). If you loose this it is no big deal to reset you Customise
settings.

Delete the whole Legacy folder and all its sub-folders and files.

Reinstall Legacy from the original Legacy7setup.exe file, reinstate the .usr
file, and you are back in business. Depending on whether you have moved
your data, you may have to reconnect this from Options>Customise>Locations

I also use Vista and do not experience any problems with the Master

2009-08-19 Thread ronald ferguson

Jan,

Since uninstalling, removing all folders/files except the Data folder worked
for Ruth, I would suggest you try the same.

I don't keep Legacy on my "Vista machine" so haven't looked for a bit, but it
ran OK last time.

I was scared to delete everything from the Legacy folder so I renamed it and
then reinstalled from the web. Haven't looked at everything yet, but my

Ruth,

When you say that you did as Valerie suggested, do you mean that you
uninstalled and reinstalled from the web? If so it may be that you will have
to do it again, but this time delete everything from the Legacy folder
except your Data folder.

Sorry, it means all your settings will go, but I cannot see another way

Ron, believe it or not, I have no bottom row of buttons on the Master
Location List. I have a blank bar and a Help button which does not work.

Valerie, I did as you suggested and nothing changed.
Run Time Error 3019 also says I don't have a valid index.

The other person that reported the same problem, Lhite31, did you find an
answer to the problem?

How can I delete the Location list? I highlighted one of the locations and
tried to Delete it, but nothing happened, it did not delete. Where is this
list and what is it called and I'll delete it and rebuild it somewhere
along

the way.

On the Master Location List the Sort Button is on the bottom row of

(just below the locations) next to the globe - also ensure that the check
box next to it is checked.

The buttons on the right only relate to selected individuals.

I have just seen it suggested that File>File Maintenance>Check Repair may
help your 3019 problem.

That scares me a little. I feel like they are discussing it
Millennia, but the unfortunate truth is if they can't duplicate the
error, and the testers also can't, it probably won't get fixed very
fast. Let me try sending you (Ruth) a partial screen shot privately.
It is of the buttons we are talking about in the Master Locations
List. I am getting worried we have more to check than just simple
non-sorting of the locations. These buttons *should* appear at the
bottom of the screen (if you don't have mapping turned on), or if you
do have mapping turned on, about a fourth the way down from the top.
Please let us know if you have them.

Ruth, don't panic. I still have your file, and on my end the
locations are sorting. (At least I think we are talking about the one
you sent me about 8 days ago. Are we?)

Where is this
list and what is it called and I'll delete it and rebuild it somewhere along

the way.

Ruth,

On the Master Location List the Sort Button is on the bottom row of buttons
(just below the locations) next to the globe - also ensure that the check
box next to it is checked.

The buttons on the right only relate to selected individuals.

I have just seen it suggested that File>File Maintenance>Check Repair may
help your 3019 problem.

I have waited a couple of days to report this as I wanted to see if

working fine
until i went to add a location to a death. I got an error message and

again
and
the same thing happen. I then open the Location file and my locations

I could not find any way to change it so I deleted the data and restored
an
earlier file and had the same problem. I then uninstalled the program
and

reloaded 7.0.0.103 and made a ged of my data in RM4 and installed in
Legacy. The
problem was still there. I uninstalled again and loaded 7.0.0.81.
Everything
worked fine then. Is this problem a bug or not?

Also, where do I look for version 7.0.0.100? I seems to have lost it
from

my computer.

Ruth,

Try the following in this order:

1. File Maintenance-->Master Lists Cleanup and clear all checkboxes.
2. Next, under the "Remove Abandoned Information" only select the
"Locations"
3. After that has completed; then File Maintenance-->Check Repair

If there is a corrupted record, steps 1 & 2 will remove the bad record
index. Then on step 3, your indexes will be rebuilt correctly.

I'm using the most current version of Legacy Deluxe with Windows XP. On the
Master Location List, the Select button is grayed out, Close button works
okay
although it did freeze the program earlier this morning, Add button open a
window

but when I Save, I get error msg 3019
and Legacy closes, the Edit button does not show the current Location even
though I have a Location highlighted so I
have nothing to Edit, Options button opens a window but I'm afraid to try
anything offered, Show List does nothing, Help does nothing either and I do
not have a Sort button anyplace on this window. I've rebooted twice. I ran a
Location Report

and the Locations are in alpha order with the names of people who have this
location. I tried to re-install the updated latest version but that doesn't
seem

to be possible.

I did Master Lists Clean Up but still get Run-time error 3019 and Legacy
closes.

Lloyd,

I would first try File>File Maintenance>Master Lists Clean Up. See also my
reply to Ruth.

To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com

Hello List,

I have waited a couple of days to report this as I wanted to see if
anyone

else would report it. I installed ver. 7.0.0.103 and everything was
working fine
until i went to add a location to a death. I got an error message and the
program closed down. I restarted legacy, tried to enter the location
again

and
the same thing happen. I then open the Location file and my locations was
all
jumbled up, not in the normal A-B-C order.

I could not find any way to change it so I deleted the data and restored
an
earlier file and had the same problem. I then uninstalled the program and
reloaded 7.0.0.103 and made a ged of my data in RM4 and installed in
Legacy. The
problem was still there. I uninstalled again and loaded 7.0.0.81.
Everything
worked fine then. Is this problem a bug or not?

Also, where do I look for version 7.0.0.100? I seems to have lost it from
my computer.

Ruth,

Yes, here it is:
Ruth, It's possible that your settings have changed. Try clicking the Sort
button and setting to the order you wish (I use right to left btw.)

Error 3019 is an Access Error indicating and indexing problem, if sorting does
correct the problem please come back.

Is it possible to redownload version 7.0.0.100? If so, then what is the

7.0.0.103 is fixed.
