RE: [LegacyUG] website

2009-03-02 Thread Syble Glasscock
I copied & pasted them in the e-mail to this group, but no, I've not done any
adjustments from the original Legacy webpage creations. Last night I created
the Legacy pages, uploaded the changed pages, as usual I check a few of the
pages online.  One that I knew I'd changed, I went to it, it did update, but is
showing the old updated date & the <\a>
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sybleg/clinewebpages/17.html
I went into the index page for this family file and changed the updated date,
saved it, but that didn't help.
Thanks,
Syble

Syble,

Did you by any chance copy/paste the links in? That's a good way of getting
unwanted spaces. I always check the link after using that procedure.

Not only are there spaces after the dots but on the next line there are many
spaces which shoudn't be there - including one before a close link tag (

Syble,

If you are referring to the bullets, which I mentioned in a previous post, then
they are either not on the site or not where the program thinks they are. The
program is looking for them in the same directory as your index page. Is that
where you put them? If not where are they ie. in which folder on your site?

This is beginning to het OT for this mailing list

Subject: [LegacyUG] website creation creating 2 folders
To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com

Apparently I'm missing something. I continue to have problems with it not
including the pictures on the website. I went to my Legacy web folder, deleted
both perryman files, then went to Legacy v.7, options-Create web pages etc., it
again created 2 separate perryman files: legacyperrmanpictures and the other
perrmanwebpgs. I've not tried to update the Cline web pages that I created
with v6, but in my Legacy folder, there is only one folder for it listed as
clinewebpages.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sybleg/ This is the website
URL.

Any suggestion as to what the problem is?

Thanks,

Re: [LegacyUG] website

2008-07-23 Thread Syble Glasscock
Wendy & RonThanks so much. Ron has helped me so much in the past, I
thought I could do this myself.  I was trying to update one of my folders
"perrymanwebpages", I have combined all my maternal lines into one, so I need
to change some things.  On the 1st upload, I was really just wanting to test V
7 and the pictures weren't coming up, upon Ron's reply I'd not checked
something properly, then yesterday as I was trying to make a new upload with my
combined files,  I had numerous problems, finally went back to some old notes
I'd printed and saved where Ron had helped me about a yr. ago, and in one he'd
mentioned changing the index name on the web creation to a rubbish name,  when
I upload that time I'd lost my index. (obviously that was for a different
situation).

I've also lost my bullets and e-mail icons, and now even though when I
previewed the web creation before uploading it, it had the pictures showing,
the pictures are not showing on the website.  When you click on the spot where
the picture should be, it goes to RootswebSorry this page is not available.
Thanks,
Syble

Hi Syble,

Your web site is not at the location you put in your post - that is
where you access the site through Rootsweb's File Manager, for
administration purposes.

I have located your site from an old post of yours to the WUL group. It
is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sybleg/

You do not have an index.html file at that location (or index.htm - it
doesn't matter which you use), which is the page that *would* open
automatically upon clicking on your web site address (as I gave it
above) if it was there. If you consider your page "Opening
page.html"
to be your home page, you should consider changing its name (and any
links to it in your site) to aid navigation to and around your site.

You have three folders at your web site...

- One is named "Pictures" and appears to contain only .jpg files.
- Another is called "clinewebpages", and the "home" page in
that folder
is titled "George W. Cline Descendants and Related Families"
- The third is called "perrymanwebpgs" and the home page in that
folder
is titled "Perryman, Brown, Curry, Fleming and Related Families"

Is one or both of these folders what you thought you had lost?

This is not strictly a Legacy issue, so does not really belong on this
list. I am replying through the list simply so that other people
reading the list know you have had a reply. You may like to direct your
questions to the WUL list where Ron has helped you before
(http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/) or the Rootsweb FreePages list
which is for people using the FreePages service at Rootsweb
(http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/RootsWeb_Support/Freepages-Help.html).

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard

2008-07-23 Thread ronald ferguson

Syble,

As Wendy says, you need to rename "Open Page.html" to "index.html" and it will
then work. You also seem to have some coding errors: The bullets so not seem to
be where they should be ie. in the same directory as the index.html file and
there is a coding error (tag missing?) at the bottom of the page.

RE: [LegacyUG] Website Creation & Customization

2008-07-01 Thread ronald ferguson

Sharron,

It can only be done page by page, or better by converting it to CSS to save
having to change each one should you wish to vary it again. Block changes can
be made using suitable text editors such as PSPad.

This list is not suited to detail discussions of html/css, as well as it being
largely off topic, but http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/ is set up to
specifically deal with questions of this nature relating to Legacy.

I'm new to the list, so I apologize if this topic has been covered already.

I generated a set of website files and found it easy to customize the graphics,
background, etc., but couldn't find any way to customize the text size or
font. Some of the writing on the resulting pages is so small that it is really
hard to read. Have I missed something? Without having to hand edit the code for
all those pages, does anybody know a way to customize the text?

Thanks,

Sharron,

There is no option to change the font size in the Web Page Creation
utility; however, you can change the text size in your Web browser. With
Internet Explorer, for example, click on View and select Text Size to
choose from a range of viewing sizes from Smallest to Largest.

I see what you did now. When you go to "Internet" > "Create Web Pages" you must go to the
"Graphics" Tab. Once there, at the top of the page, you will see "Background." Check the Radio
button marked "Use background as a fixed watermark." Next select the button marked "Select" then
browse to your Legacy folder and select the folder named BackGrnd. In there you will find a number
of background image files, one of which is Sky.bmp. That appears to be the one you used for your
home page. Once you have done that you will have to re-create the web pages and they should then
have the background you desire.

The blue background comes from the [background="sky.gif"] portion which is
