Re: [LegacyUG] Adopted child
I would enter the child as her's without adding a father. I would then link the child to her parents and indicate the child to parent relationship between the child and those parents as Adopted. I would use the available birth certificate as a source for all those but would add a note to the source (probably in the Source comments) with my suspicions that the document replaced the true birth certificate. In the note you can include any evidence you have about the situation. Brian Kelly On 10-May-17 8:06 AM, Ed Ladendorf wrote: I have a situation where an unmarried girl gave birth. I have a situation where an unmarried girl gave birth. When it was obvious that she was not ready to be a parent, her parents adopted the child, and there was a birth certificate made, showing the grandparents as parents. [LegacyUG] adopted child
hi I keep getting a problem list on one child. She was born 1975 her parents divorced. Her adopted father adopted her as an adult 2013 for estate reasons. The problem list tells me " The Person was born before the marriage of his/her parents." HOW do I correct this? I have entered mark as not a problem BUT it does not stay. The next time I run the list she re-appears. Help, how do I stop this? What do I enter? Also, I have a family( 10 children) that I have only the civil marriage date NOT the church date & I get the children were born prior to the marriage date. Again, how do I stop the message so, I can review and correct the real errors. Tony, Yes it is...add the parents just as you would normally...then pop up the children's settings and click on "relationship to father" and "relationship to mother" and choose "biological" for each one. I have several instances where the biological mother remarried and the new spouse adopted the children from her first marriage...in that instance, I just chose "biological" for the first spouse...and "adopted" for the second spouse. In children's settings there is a drop down screen that you can make note of this. Relationship to Father and Relationship to Mother. The down arrow gives different suggestions, one is adopted. RE: [LegacyUG] Adopted child marries a relative
It doesn't matter what his last name is. From his adoptive parents' page, add him as a brother to the other children. OR From his page, link him to his adoptive parents. You show that he is adopted from the parents' page. In the list of children, right click on him. Click on Children's Settings. Make sure he is the highlighted child, and, at the bottom of the page, click the down arrow by Child Status and choose Adopted from the drop down list. Do the same for Relationship to Father and Relationship to Mother. Re: [LegacyUG] Adopted child
I had a similar problem for two children in about the same time frame. We knew they were actual sisters - and the two families who adopted them were headed by brothers - but no relation to the adopted children. I've since found the parents of the two girls but before I did, I put them in my database under their adopted names with their real surnames (which I had) as AKA's. As Paula suggested, I did make some appropriate notations in the birth notes -along with a reference line in my general notes so that I would not miss the birth notes. I have since made adjustments in those after finding the birth parents - both of whom died of an epidemic within a few weeks of the younger child's birth. My remaining mystery is how my family ended up with the two girls when they had a couple of aunts and uncles in the same general area. Personally, I would add her with the adopted name, and her birth name as an AKA. Add her birth name in birth notes? Add an adoption event for 1901 with birth name and new name? Etc. I lean that way because you have no information on her birth parents. Should you decide to look into that further, you have the birth notes and/or adoption event there.
