OK, my last question concerning footnotes in letters was senseless, but now I really do not know, what's on. Here are two my questions: 1) How to write letters with scrlettr.cls (KOMA-Script letter class) in LyX? There is no template available (lyx 1.1.5fix1) and neither documentation in LyX (Extended.lyx) nor KOMA-Script (I do not read German) helped to make anything workable in LyX. Would anybody be so kind and send me example letter prepared KOMA-Script and LyX, please? Thanks. 2) Using standard letter.cls I tried a footnote and the first one is numbered as the second?! this is the problem with the old algorithm-style from ams. therefore
i always use komascript (book) and than ntheorem-style.

"export postscript" problem
Hi, I am using LyX on an x86. When i choose the command "export postscript" I get the following output: This is dvips(k) 5.86 Copyright 1999 Radical Eye Software (www.radicaleye.com) ' TeX output 2000.08.16:1755' -> //c/lyxroot/LyxDocs/newfile.ps dvips: ! couldn't open PostScript file I think this is because windows doesn't recognize the path "//c/lyxroot/LyxDocs/" in that format. However when i "view postscript" the command runs successfully, this is because LyX saves this file as ' TeX output 2000.08.16:1755' -> newfile.ps_tmp' ..i.e. it stores it in the tmp directory by default. Would anyone know how I could fix the "export postscript" problem? Many thanks, Voirin
AMS not translated (LAST QUESTIONS!)

First of all I'd like to thanks Herbert Voss for his great help to my
problem.
On Thu Aug 10 21:11:01 2000 Herbert Voss explain (answering a question of
mine) how to translate "AMS Book" words like : "Theorem", "Corollary"
etc... in other languages (there are a lot of entries in that document
class);
See his previous message to have a full description of the problem.
There are some problems and something doesn't work, so to solve my last
problems (and help other people with the same problem) here are notes and
questions:

OK, this solution works 90% :
*) I changed amsbook.layout as suggested (DON'T insert any other line in
that file, nor "#" comments, otherwise LyX will not compile); then I took
ntheorem.sty from Herbert's e-mail and put on suggetsted directory but
this DOESN'T WORK. I hadn't any /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/ntheorem/
directory (nor ~/.TeX) so I created them and I tried, but LaTeX didn't see
that file. My solution was to put that file in the current working
directory, where there are my LyX files. This works.
Then I put this LateX commands in my AMS-book-LyX file :
\renewtheorem{thm}{Teorema}[section]
\renewtheorem{cor}{Corollario}[section]
to rename "Theorem" and "Corollary".
This works, but generate my BIG problem: LaTeX ask to "redefine" also
"proof" with \renewtheorem ; I added (don't laugh...) :
\renewtheorem{proof}{Dimostrazione}[section]
but LaTeX starts to numerate Proofs! No, this is not good.
so I tried:
\renewtheorem{proof}{Dimostrazione}
Numbers again (other kind of numeration)... :-((
How can I avoid proof numbering?

i don't really know if you need the umlauts or accents for
fomula text, which is in italic or normal text, not italic.
1. real text in mathmode:
open the blue mathbox and write your formula until you need
german umlauts or accents. hit alt-m m, this toggles between
text and mathmode.
2. umlauts and accents in mathmode, means italic:
open the blue mathbox and write your formula until you need
german umlauts or accents. write
\mbox{
only the open parenthesis, lyx puts by default the closing
one, mbox{}. lyx don't show the backslash!
as an argument for mbox write
\mathit{
lyx puts the closing parenthesis, so you have mbox{mathit{}}
as an argument for amthit write your umlauts or letters with
accents. at this point lyx don't know that you are writing
in "mathtextmode", therefore you always have blue characters
and space is only possible with control-space. you can change
this with alt-m m.

Hello, is there anybody at this list who figured out how to use "umlauts" in a formula (description-enviroment) ! I've tried: 1. writing it exactly as ä 2. using "a instead of ä (the LaTex way) In case of 1 the letter isn't displayed at all, in case of 2 an a is displayed. After reading the internationalization docs again I can not figure out a further possibility to make the umlauts work in this enviroment. Any hint is appreciated ! Thanks in advance Thomas

I remembered another thing; I got messages stating that pdflatex cannot determine the bounding box from PNG images. I set this by hand to includegraphics command. Solved: rcsinfo and fancy pagestyle
