MI MultiListBox - Just how does that work......

2000-04-11 Thread David Watkins

I am trying to use the MultiListBox command in MapBasic and have set up the control in
the dialog but can't figure out a way to return entries from the list box.

What I am trying to do is query a temporary table that summarises entries in a column
and populates a multi list box. This part works well and I can populate the multi
list box with what I want from a temporary table. The problem I have is that I can't
figure out how to trap the selections in the multi list box (I want to use what the
user chooses to limit what a sql query selects).

I have already tried to call a handler routine (from the dialog) and have played
around with the ReadControlValue command, but it isn't clear from the MapBasic manuals
how exactly to trap mulitple selections made in a multi list box. Eventually I want
the code to provide me with string values that match the entries selected from the
multi list box.

Any help most gratefully received.

MI Vertical Mapper

2000-04-11 Thread Laurent SCHNELL

Hello members,

I've got two questions for your knowledge :

- Is Vertical Mapper able to create some 3-D objects
(with x;y;z1;z2 coordonates) or does it only make some 3-D
surfaces

- If someone knows the BD TOPO edited by IGN (France).
Does this Data Base generate a three-dimensionnal
representation with Mapinfo?

Thank for your replies

MI Printer memory

2000-04-11 Thread Steve Halsall

This is not strictly a MapInfo question but perhaps someone can help.

I have a HP1050C printer which has 32Mb memory which has been adequate for most of the
maps that have been printed. There have been occasions where difficulties have arisen
when printing detailed A1 or A0 size maps (with raster backgrounds). I understand that
the printer can be upgraded to resolve the problems by either adding more memory or by
adding a hard disk drive (or both). The question is, which would be most cost
effective? What benefits does the hard disk option give over the additional memory
option?

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: MI Copying Boundary Lines.

2000-04-11 Thread Stokes Jonathan

Or the other one is a digitising trick but as effective (sometimes)

switch the node snapping on - (hit s), select the polygon tool then move the
cursor over the first point you want to digitise from, get the snapping
cross hairs to appear and click to create a new node. then move to the last
point on the existing polygon you want to digitise to and again move the
cursor over the point so that the snapping 'cross haris' appear - then hold
down shift whilst clicking. the boundary of the new oject will automatically
'snap' along the entire lenght of the new object between the 'start' and
'end' nodes.

i find it better to do this is in a couple of stages than all at once.

Hi Myles

I find the easiest way to do this is in fact not to digitise it. Instead
digitise a polygon that goes inside the original polygon, set the target to
the new polygon, select the existing polygon(s) and use these to erase the
overlap.

The result is that the new polygon exactly agrees with the existing
polygons.
(Either that or you get the dreaded "error overlaying objects" message which
indicates that the original data isn't as clean as you thought)

simply and stacks quicker than digitising all the little bits.

Cheers

I have a mapinfo table of which contains very detailed regions. When I say
detailed I mean the bounday lines are made up of hundreds of points over a
short
distance. What is the best way of copying a piece of this regions boundary
so
that when I digitise another region adjacent to it, they have identical
boundaries?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

MI Median Household Income

2000-04-11 Thread Warren, Steve

Hello list,

I am creating demographic maps based on Median Household Income and
population. I was wondering if someone knows of a place that creates
classifications such as lower class, middle class, upper class, etc. for
income and rural, suburban, urban, etc. for population.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

2000-04-11 Thread Francois Bergeron

Hi Georges,

I suggest you to try MapLogix, a topological map editing utility for
MapInfo. MapLogix lets you use lines or polylines for splitting
polygons.

You can download the demo version of MapLogix at
http://www.korem.com/maplogix.

Hope this helps,
François

Greetings all,
When opening a dialog with Run Menu Command, for
instance M_FILE_OPEN_ODBC, is there a way to :
-   know if the user clicked on a button;
-   know if the user selected an item in a list;
-   disable buttons;
- populate edit boxes with variables?

Thanks in advance

 Hi

Not directly, but it's simple enough to:

1. Draw your line.
2. Select it then run Objects - Convert to Regions.
MapInfo will add an extra segment to close the region off.
3. Use the Node Add tool to add nodes to this extra segment until it
surrounds one of the halves you want.
4. Now use this region object as the splitter object in Objects - Split.

Notice you can save a few steps by drawing a region
object in the first place.

Laurent,

It is possible to create something like 3-D visible towers in Vertical Mapper
as individual objects. This works best when used with the following points:

x1,y1,z1; x2,y1,z1; x1,y2,z1; x1,y1,z2 (where x1, x2, y1 and y2 are very close
together)

Use TIN interpolation and set your maximum triangle side length to an
appropriately small size. With this, you may create tall, individual
tetrahedrons (pyramids with triangular bases).

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask me.

RE: MI Re: Splitting Polygons

2000-04-11 Thread Warren, Steve

This is what I sent Georges earlier. I hope it is helpful for someone.

Follow the step below to split a polygon:

1) Make the layer that contains the polygon editable.
2) Select the polygon and choose Set Target from the Objects menu.
3) Draw another polygon that will split the original polygon in the correct
place.
4) Select the newly drawn polygon and choose Split from the Objects menu.
5) Select the appropriate field from the box that pops up or select no data
and click ok.
6) You now have a split polygon. Delete the second polygon that you used
to split the original polygon.

 Subject: MI Constant Layer control

 Hi all,

I am looking for a little mbx or other type of program that
 will provide
a Layer Control that will sit beside some maps that I want to display,
much like the Arc/View theme manager. Currently I have to, like every
body else :-), right click on the map, and make invisible the
 layer that
I do not want displayed any more, thus making the one below visible.

I want to be able to have one mapper window and be able to turn off
successive layers, from top to bottom, and show different
 thematic maps
as I present information contained within. I cannot think of
 any way to
do this from within MapInfo Pro apart from having this little
toolbar-esque Layer Control. I have searched high and low for a tool
that will accomplish this but I cannot find one.

I am also open to any suggestions, if you have any, about some other
means of accomplishing what I have outlined above. I have entertained
the idea of doing this just as a powerpoint presentation but
 I want the
ability to be able to dynamically query the data should the
 need arise.

 Thanks,

 Brad
