The sovereign citizen stuff gets caught in our data loss prevention system, so 
I’ll see it when it hits the fence. It’s amazing to read and doesn’t seem to be 
totally crazy until you read and parse the whole thing. My Mom got caught up in 
this garbage years ago and was convinced that she wouldn’t have to pay taxes if 
she claimed to be a sovereign citizen. It was silly to think, as  she was 
retired and probably paid little to nothing in taxes to begin with.

Fortunately, my brother, a commercial banker who also took care of her 
financials, convinced her it would be a very bad idea for her to pursue this. 
She backed off.

common for the W115s of that vintage.  I owned a 300D in mittelrot, and

Carbs need rebuilding according to the owner.  As a non-op car I would offer 
him substantially less.  He’s said he’s going to rebuild them and get it going, 
but that was over a month ago and nothing has changed.

Understood.  And no, I’m not making a comparison.  They all have far different 
valuations based on the model and level of trim.

I’m perfectly fine with any of them, I don’t have my heart set on a particular 
model.  Given the choice I would like a lower end model with diesel and a 
stick, but beggars can’t be choosers…

I have. And a very nice one.  But it’s in Grant’s Pass, OR, the middle of 
nowhere and I’m not willing to spend $1000 to travel so I can check it out.

They’re out there, I just have to be patient and find the best deal.  In the 
past I’ve been lucky and had prospective sellers who I’ve talked with come back 
to me later in the game and want to sell at a more realistic price.  For 
instance, if the guy in Grant’s Pass would consider maybe $7500 instead of the 
$12k he thinks he can get, I would hop on a plane and go see it.  It’s simply 
not worth it to spend the money to survey something when the seller has 
unrealistic expectations.  And it this case it’s grandma’s car, so there’s some 
emotion involved, which just makes the seller all the more unrealistic.

Hemmings has a pretty decent Martha non-operational project I would seriously 
consider if I could get a pair of eyes on it to verify condition:

#1 - $18,900

#2 - $10,600

#3 - $6,300

#4 - $2,100

Now this is far from being a concours quality car.  I think we can agree on 
that.  So let’s say it’s a #2, which would be considered “Excellent”.

the rust issues. Heck, even the seller presents it as a driver quality car.

pretend that I filled the tank!

The six pack setup was pretty efficient just cruising because you were only
sucking through the center carburetor but you could watch the needle move
when you got on it.

I could watch the needle move in my 72 Olds 98 with a 455 4 barrel while
cruising around town.

About 12-13 on the highway. 9-11 in town.

But when that big ole 472 kicks with all 525 lbs of torque, it is a joy to 
drive - of course you can hear the four barrel carb opening up and watch the 
needle drop.

Actually, shouldn't be much worse than a early 70's Olds 98 my brother owned, I 
think he averaged 12-14mpg in that. The Caddy is bigger, and has EGR, but I bet 
it gets at least 10mpg.

They are surprisingly easy to drive given the size of them. Maybe that is 
because you can sort of see the corners
unlike today's cars. I worked with a lawyer who had a 1974 Sedan de Ville "way 
back when" and drove it a couple of
times. My recollection is that it had a lot of miles on it and did not cause a 
whole lot of rrouble except for some
sort of AC fuse or relay that kept blowing and being replaced.

Take a look at this 81 126 diesel. The seller calls it a nice TX car.
After looking at the photos, if this is a nice car for TX, I will never
buy a car from Texas.  Was he looking at the photos when he called it
nice?
