[MMouse]: expressed concern
you know i used to be the copy girl at workand i was friends with all the other little copy girls and boys... they were really nice to me and we went out afterwards and had curly fries and ranch and fucked around with the salt and pepper shakers... but i guess i made my copies too good... my correlating skillz ruled the rest of them and then i got a promotion... i no longer had to make copies for the higher ups... now i got to answer phones and be nice to people on the phone... because i got to be nice on the phone i think i made alot more people happy, just because i got to spread my lovin over the phone lines... it's harder to spread lovin through the xerox machine... but then one day i walked by the copy kids and i asked them if they wanted to go out afterwards and they said no, because i had sold out... that my promotion was fucked up and that they didn't want to hang out with anyone that had moved up in the world. it hurt my feelings because i didn't think i had done anything wrong... after all, the extra money i got was able to make it so i could move out of my old apartment into a nicer one... and i was able to get a cool new pair of sneeks and an awesome new boom box to keep on my shoulder. i guess you have to remain poor and old skool to not be a sell out... my fucking parents sold out... and i have too... fuck you for selling out, take no raises... upgrade nothing you sell out motherfuckers *snuggs* love and fisting, leigh
[MMouse]: best shows
Best shows that I have seen, Fugazi with 764-HERO and Red Stars Theory in Springfield Oregon (of all places) last year Neil Young played the HORDE tour a few years ago and while some other band was playing (I think it was the Squirll Nutt Zippers-y h) he came out to a tent off to the side and started taking requests. More highlights of that show were Morphine and Ben Folds Five. Other shows I've seen that I don't quite remember when they were (those are the best ones) were Far on a couple of occasions, the Pixies several years ago, Primus on their Frizzle Fry tour, Modest Mouse of course, Wilco...m now I'm just fishing. By the way, in response to this whole GAS OUT thing, why not just fuck your cars for a few days and try walking or riding your bike. When we stop buying gas for just a few days we still make up for it the days preceding it and folling the strike. That does nothing. If you want to make a real stance, encourage everyone you know to ride their bikes sometimes, walk, or at least consider carpooling. The first step towards a solution is recognizing the problem. __ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com
Re: [MMouse]: looper
if anyone knows the band looperthey were playing in the background of some commercial for myfamily.comwhat the heck is up w/ that yeah looper played here last night and i missed them cos i couldn't get a ride to champaign. i dunno why they'd be in a myfamily.com commercial, but lots of underground bands somehow get stuck on commercials or tv shows or whatever so i'm not totally surprised and flabbergasted. - amy, still sad about missing flaming lips and looper :/
Re: [MMouse]: the get up kids
How ironic that action and action is their single. the lyric: "You really think that you're bigger than this, to the tune of 1 lisps. Who would have thought we'd represent when I can't take a compliment? Overexposure is the key and anyfocus on me is appreciated and it should be." The Get Up Kids have not sold out, they never bought in in the first place. There's nothing wrong with wanting to see yourself on TV, especially when you still play tiny venues in SE portland. ___ Ben Hubbird [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ On Tue, 7 Mar 2000, jacqueline. wrote: Lord, if i hear of one more person that labels the get up kids "sell outs", i'll just shoot myself. They are an amazing band, they are going to get big. And what exactly are they "selling out" to? Did they promise all the kids that watched them play in basements back in the day that some day they would reject mtv if they had the chance, or tell people not to like them if they became unbelievably popular? Too many people try to break bands down with the "sell out" shit. I don't know what there reasoning is.. maybe it's that they fear that the band will become far from there "awesome secret" that few people know about, or they won't get to see them for 8 bucks anymore... but whatever, be happy for them. As for the albums though, i do like their older stuff better, but they are still good. Anyway, to finish they most likely worked really hard to get where they are. So just try not be as concerned. .jacqueline. i don't know if it's just me, buthas anyone else noticed that theGet Up Kids are starting to really sell out in a way..i saw them on mtv's 120 minutesblahapart from them being on MTV!, they expressedWANTING to be on TRL every secondi dunno...did anyone else see that? ifyou did..pleeease tell me they were just kidding (or that you think they were)...their first album was great, but after seeing the video foraction action, i can't bring myself to listen to Something to Write Home abouthconcerned~*tanNer*~ __ Do You Yahoo!? The Cherry Poppin Daddies, Green Day, Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines. Another interesting topic is bands that have done the exact opposite of sell-out...Branch off in musical directions against the grain of popular culture despite the threat of million dollar losses. Radiohead comes to mind. No Doubt too. Even Rage. Nothing but respect for those bands, although I don't like No Doubt or Rage. ___ Ben Hubbird [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ On Tue, 7 Mar 2000, A. My vote would have to go for Metallica. I mean they were a great coked out metal band, at the fore front of that genre, and then out of no where, they become ALTERNATIVE. Yuck. The Get Up Kids are fun and all but I wouldn't say they are sell-outs. There music has never changed much, maybe gotten tighter. I like their music but that video is aweful. andy xoxo

[MMouse]: Best Live Mouse Experience
I drove all the way to Pullman from Seattle in 97 (?) to see Built to Spill, Modest Mouse and 764-Hero. Modest Mouse's van broke down and were not going to make it so BTS went on second. This was just before "Perfect from now on" came out and they played mostly songs from the newest one which was really cool. At the end of the BTS show Dug got really excited when he heard Modest Mouse had just arrived. They played after BTS and it was great. After the show Doug was actually standing outside the venue thanking people for coming! My best rock experience probably. My second best would be tie between almost all of the unwound shows I have seen. xoxo andy
[MMouse]: best show
i recently saw FUGAZI at the Tremont Music Hall in charlotte nc and boywell..need i say more...they played ALL NITE...but aside from that...they played with a band call FARAQUET..and if any of you ever have the opportunity to see themyou should...the music is a mood...and it's such a good one to be in, around, etc etc. ~*tanNer*~

I dont think I quite understand what you mean by "going against the grain of popular culture." I dont see anything unique about what No Doubt or Rage have done. I think Gwen is one of the trendiest people around. Maybe I just dont get it, but I have to say that I disagree with you...I respect your opinion, but I still disagree. *jae* boulder, colorado [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The bestest live show i ever did see would have to be my very first one. It was Hammerbox at the Mercer arena in Seattle during Bumbershoot like seven years ago or something. Back when crowd-surfing was kool, and everybody wanted to stage-dive. Carrie Akre's voice totally blew me away. Another great show was Jane's Addiction last year in Seattle, but i imagine every show on the tour was the same. I was way up in nose-bleed seats and it still rawked. And last but not least, 764-HERO and Modest Mouse at the UW HUB ballroom a few months back. Holy shit. I've never heard MM play so well. [MMouse]: best and worst
ok here they are: Ramones-Adios Amigos Tour at the (gasp) electric factory in philly, nearly 120 minutes of non stop booty bouncin in the middle of a february blizzard. Modest Mouse and Bardo Pond at the pontiac in philly, lines around the block and isacc buying pizza across the street, helll yeah Beck at the big as Spectrum in Philly, and finally Built to Spill last summer at the TLA, i wen tby myself, but i was there goddamnit. ok the 3 worst now Fugazi and Skeleton Key 4 years ago i believe Butthole Surfers and Cibo Matto, uhmm also 4 years ago Dustin "keep your lamp light trimmed and burning"
