Hi Xan, I appreciate the detailed comments, but I cannot really work with it like this, it is too hard for me to extract actual actions. [NTG-context] Possible Bug(s) in bibl-ams.tex (mkii)

Else a white space between coma and precedent text is putting. I used ConTeXt ver 2007.09.28 MKII but I think this error is in more actual versions. 2) For the other hand, if we want to that publisher is inserted, we have to put uncomment lines in publisher: \insertpublisher{}{, }{}% With this change, context puts me the year of publication. Mysteriously with the original, ConTeXt puts me the publisher (is this correct Taco???). For example, in @incollection{millerIIIa2, author = Charles F. {{Miller III}}, title = Decision problems for groups: survey and reflections, booktitle = Algorithms and Classification in Combinatorial Group Theory, year = 1992, publisher = Springer-Verlag, address = Berlin, editor = Gilbert Baumslag and Charles F. {{Miller III}}, pages = 1-59, series = MSRI Publications, volume = 23 } I get (in the past) C.F M;iller III, Decision problems for groups: survey and reflections, in {\em Algorithms and Classification in Combinatorial Group Theory}, edited by G. Baumslag and C. F. Miller III, number 23 in MSRI Publications (Springer-Verlag, Berlin), p. 1-59. Now I get, C.F M;iller III, Decision problems for groups: survey and reflections, in {\em Algorithms and Classification in Combinatorial Group Theory}, edited by G. Baumslag and C. F. Miller III, number 23 in MSRI Publications (Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1992), p. 1-59. For the other hand, in @article, for example in @article{stillwell, title = The Word Problem and the isomorphism problem for groups, author = John Stillwell, journal = Bulletin (New Series) of the American Mathematical Society, volume = 6, number = 1, year = 1982, month = Jan } I think it could be a dot after number, but I can't put manually: if we have pages after, we have dot and comma. Actually, I think we need if clause, but I don't know how get it. Taco, you surely do it better ;-). Always the bib entries should be final dot (isn't?). 3) For the other hand, I think we need a dot between pages and note in @article. For example in @article{novikov, author = P. S. Novikov, title = On the algorithmic unsolvability of the word problem in group theory, journal = Proceedings of Steklov Mathematical Institute, year = 1955, volume = 44, pages = 1-145, note = Traducció anglesa a l'American Mathematical Society Translations (2) 9 (1958), 1-122 } we don't have . Traducció See the dot. 4) Finally, @inbook, I have dot between title and address and year. For example in @book{grillet, author = Pierre Antoine Grillet, title = Abstract Algebra, edition = second, year = 2007, publishers = Springer, series = Graduate Texts in Mathematics, address = New York } I get P. A. Grillet, {\em Abstract Algebra}. (New York, 2007), second ed. and it should be: P. A. Grillet, {\em Abstract Algebra} (New York, 2007), second ed. Well I hope you note this. [NTG-context] Theorems with arguments like amsthm
Hi, I have my environment of context that defines the theorems and lemmas like amsthm in latex. For example, for lemmas, I have: \defineenumeration [lemma] [text={Lemma},headstyle=bold,between=\blank,titledistance=0em,textdistance=1em, stopper={.\space},location=serried,left={\bgroup\bf},right={\egroup},width=fit,style=italic] The question is how can I get the typical argument of lemmas: Lema 4.1 (superadditive lemma)? How can I add the possibility that lemma _could_ have one argument (the phrase in parentesis)?. I'm not a TeX programmer, such a ConTeXt user. Any hint? I'm stuck by so many problems. I might be lack of the basic knowledge of ConTeXt. Could someone tell me where I can find manuals or papers that describe the logic of ConTeXt design and basics of ConTeXt programming. Thanks in advance. Best wishes, Wei-Wei Yes, there is a hole in that way. I'm agree too. Many have voiced the same complaint. I understand that Hans and every one are occupied with building MKIV (aka LuaTeX), and that documentation is not their highest priority. There's the wiki, the wonderfully active mailing list, and what used to be decent docs from 2001/2002 timeframe. But yes, it's a steep hill to climb, made worth it only by the relative awesomeness of ConTeXt. If there is an existing strategy for creating documentation, I'd love to hear it. My feeling is it's it's time to pay someone to write some good docs. Someone who's not on the development team, who has experience writing technical documentation, and who can shepard list members into crowd sourcing some real documentation. The problem is who. Who has this high technical knowledge and he/she is not developer?. People I know that have this high tech knowledge of ConTeXt is developer. MKIV is stabilizing into usefulness, and now is a good time to start. I suspect list members would donate to such a project, plus we could get some grant money (if that's not all dried up due to the global economy), and maybe some contribution from Pragma itself, and other orgs that depend on ConTeXt. A patchwork quilt of financing, and a project coordinator/writer who sees their work as a labor of love, and a side job, could make this happen. Even if we could only afford 10 hours of work a week, that could get a lot done. In terms of process, I think someone to comb the list archives for common problems and solutions, and wikify them would get the most bang for the buck initially. These wiki entries could later be ConTeXtified into printed (and screen) docs, like Hans' awesome old manuals. Good idea. Just a suggestion. If someone starts new documentation, it should be free. Now the only documentation for users is ConTeXt manual, Context, an excursion (and some PracTeX journal and MAPS journal articles). These documents are copyrated by Pragma. And for the other hand the license of documentation of ConTeXt is Creative Commons Atribution Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0. I think it's better if the new documentation were free: Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 or GNU Free Documentation License. It could estimulate more users than now. It's my opinion. Honestly, we've got smart people wasting time answering the same questions in different ways on the list, when they could be plugging in some of that time into writing docs for everyone. And as useful as the list is, it's no substitute for manuals. Really how many people are using ConTeXt and how many developers are here? For example, how many people are subscribing in this list: it could tells us what's the number of users. If I understood ConTeXt I'd volunteer, but I'm a noob, so I'm feeling the same frustration as Wei-Wei. I feel bad having to bug developers and advanced users every time I have a basic question. It's inefficient and inelegant, though I much appreciate the access to great minds and the window into the development process this has given me. Pile on to this thread, if this is a burning issue for you, or you have some strategy or expertise to offer. You missed the reference manual rewrite effort (which is now in remission mostly because of an extremely depressing lack of user feedback). http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Main_Page#Documentation That is GNU FDL. You refer to this link [http://foundry.supelec.fr/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/context-reference/en/?root=contextman]?? Where is the license explicited? There is no README/LICENSE or analogous file and no head license in every .tex file. Ooops, not: in [http://foundry.supelec.fr/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/context-reference/en/contextref.tex?root=contextmanview=markup] I see the license. Sorry But should it put in every .tex file or in a LICENSE file? I'm not lawyer. Just a question. Really how many people are using ConTeXt and how many developers are here? [NTG-context] Logos of Context (context-free-design github repo)
Hi all of you, After aproving of Taco and Mojca, I announce that I start a repository of ConTeXt logos: http://github.com/somenxavi/context-free-designs/ Now it has only the Taco logo that reproduce the contextgarden logo, but it's open to anyone who wants to put in any logo. Just send me the file. The only condition is that the license were free (public domain, Creative Commons, ) I plan to put the logos in this repo in a Spreadshirt/Cafepress shop that I want to open in a medium time. But the main intention is to have a collection of ConTeXt logos freely distributable. Once I open the shop, the intention is not to earn money, else that fans of ConTeXt could have their t-shirts, cofee cups, . Surely I donor the few dolars I win to NTG, CTAN or something else. Sincerly, Xan. ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

The actually process is: texexec prova.tex -- prova.pdf and prova-mpgraph.1 (eps file) generated. and I see what you said. So it has transparent background, but why gimp says that eps does not support transparency? Strange. Really strange. AFAIU, trasparency is implemented using specials in mp code, so the eps (the .1 file) does not contain transparency, but the pdf does. Did you open the pdf or the eps file in gimp? Aditya, when I open pdf or eps file in gimp, gimp pop-up a windows of convert the file. When the conversion is completed, it puts white background in the image. So I can't see if pdf has _really_ transparent background. At least in older versions of (E)PS you cannot use transparent blue or transparent red to fill shapes for example. But the background is always transparent even in PostScript in the sense that unless you explicitely paint the background with white, you can include your image in another document and you won't see any white white rectangular border around it. Okay Mojca. Anyone knows if newest version of eps support it? GIMP doesn't really support EPS. I don't know what you need GIMP for, but when I need to convert some EPS or PDF image into transparent PNG, I do: gs -dSAFER -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE \ -sDEVICE=pngalpha \ -dTextAlphaBits=4 \ -dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 \ -sOutputFile=converted_file.png \ -r100.0 \ (put here whatever number you want) original_file.pdf You can try that with the logo and you'll notice the transparent background with GIMP. Thanks Mojca for this script. I did the same with gimp with more more effort (open eps file, gimp says that it should convert, then a file with white background appears and then I substitute white background with transparent background, and save as png file. Uf!!). Mojca, how is this script for converting pdf file to (newest) eps? For seeing if newest eps supports transparency.
