there will no new tuc file made when you have a 'fatal' error; normally
that works out ok, unless there is a fatal error in the tuc file itself
in which case you're kind of stuck (this only happens when there is a
bug in the context code or something that context cannot recover from)

Hans

I was refering to what \mathematics works and $$ does not.

The problem appears after section \section{$\varphi_k$}, because if I
put \stoptext after, all is ok. Anyone could see the problems? I
attach the file. Please, help me.

Xan.

Too long, so I just copy the last section:

\section{$\varphi_k$}

\naturalnumbers \to \naturalnumbers$\mysymbol{$\varphi_{\sigma}$}
definida per $\varphi_{\sigma, k} (0) = 0$ i, per a tot $n  0$,

\startformula
\varphi_{\sigma, k} (n)=  \max \{ \sum_{i=0}^k D_{\sigma, g, h} (t+i)
\mid t \in \naturalnumbers, (g, h) \in K_{G, X} (n) \}.

\stopformula
Quan $\sigma$ sigui clara pel context i sigui una secció genèrica,
escriurem simplement $\varphi_k (n)$\mysymbol{$\varphi_k$}. De forma
trivial, $\varphi_0 = \varphi$ i $\varphi_1 = \lambda_{0,1}$.

\stopmydefinition

Estendrem $\varphi_k$ als nombres reals mitjançant $\varphi_k (x) =
\varphi_k (\lfloor x \rfloor)$ si $x  0$ i $\varphi_k (x) = \varphi_k
(0)$ si $x  0$.

\startmylema Per a tot $k \geq 0$, tenim que $\varphi_k (n) \leq \varphi
(n)$.

\stopmylema

\startmydemo Clarament, per a tot $n \in \naturalnumbers$,

\NC \varphi_k (n) \NC = \max \{ \frac{1}{k+1} \sum_{i=0}^k D_{\sigma, g

A clear sign that your ConTeXt isn't setup correctly. Are you using
the 'ConTeXt minimals'?

http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Minimals

I once followed the installation instructions on Mandriva64 Linux and
it worked like a charm.

*
NOTE:* The officially recommened way of installing ConTeXt on all
platforms is using ConTeXt Minimals
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Minimals

There are also some instructions for using ConTeXt under TeXLive

http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Installation
I have that installed but it does not serve me because I use tkiz (read
above). So I _must_ use MKII.

I use ubuntu 8.04.
How can I do for fix the installation? Any ideas?

applications using both cores. (Plus: I'm happy if other applications
continue to run smoothly instead of being blocked by TeX using 95% of
both processors.)

I did not say to process page 500 before the page 499. I just say use
all power of the multiple processors.

It could be useful for offering typesetting services. I'm thinking about
having a computation service like alpha.wolfram but with ConTeXt. Like
ConTeXt online but benefit from multiple processors

If you would offer a service, you would get multiple requests at the
same time anyway, so there's no real need for that in this case
(you'll face many more serious problems when offering typesetting
service).

You are right here.

Joking, perhaps you could fix it in Mark VII ;-)

You can try XeTeX if you want to put load on both processors. It does
offer a parallel process as far as I heard,

Is it true?

 but then you'll probably
want support for quad-core once you get a better computer :)

Run two jobs at once ;-)

Seriously: no, typesetting (currently) is a single-process streaming
task, and that is not easily fixed at all.

Confirmed so :-)

Re: [NTG-context] Possible Bug(s) in bibl-ams.tex (mkii)

2009-08-24 Thread Xan

   Hi Xan,

   I appreciate the detailed comments, but I cannot really
   work with it like this, it is too hard for me to extract
   actual actions.

   An easier way for me to handle this is if you create a small
   test document, run it with the current bib module, and write
   down all that is wrong with it.

   Best wishes,
   Taco

Taco, _for example_ put note in all class of document. You see that
depending on, you have a dot before the note text (for example if you
specify the pages field), but in some cases you haven't.

So you have to put if sentence in bib-ams.tex.

[NTG-context] How to cite _only_ cite references

2009-08-18 Thread Xan

Hi,

Simply question: how can I do for only put citing references?

With

\usemodule[bib]
\setupbibtex[database=memoria,sort=author]
\setuppublications [alternative=ams,numbering=yes, sorttype=bbl,
criterium=all]%

\setupheadtext[ca][pubs=Referències]
\setuppublicationlist[authoretallimit=3]
\setuppublicationlist[authoretaltext={\it\  et al.}]
\setuppublicationlist[authoretaldisplay=1]

in my headers and

\completepublications[criterium=all]

I get complete list of publications.

What I should modify for getting only cite publications? With
criterium=cite substitution does not work for me ;-|

Thanks,
Xan.

Make this criterium=cite.

Best wishes,
Taco

Thanks a lot, Taco.
And with \completepublications[criterium=all] (else, it does not work at least
for me),.

It's courious: criterium=cite in setup... and criterium=all in
completepublications. It seems an oximoron ;-)

Thanks another time, Taco.
This time the question is simply, as you want ;-D

[NTG-context] Align and nested combinations

Hi,

With this code:

\placefigure

 {An example of \type{\startcombination...}.}
 {\startcombination[1*2]

   \stopcombination} {a}
   {\startcombination[1*1]

  \stopcombination}

I get all _left_ aligned (see attached file) and I want normal center
aligned.

How can I get this?

Thanks in advance,

But why happens the same in MKII?

the ref messages themselves are harmless i think and i will sort them

[NTG-context] Buggy source code-- references disappears when I put sections and If I put subjects, \completecontent has void list.

2009-08-12 Thread Xan

Hi,

I'm desesperated. I have I source code (that I attached) that when I
substitute any (for example the last) ocurrence of subject for section,
then references appears in blank.

If I maintain the subjects (and subsubjects...), then \completecontent
gives me a void list.

What happens?.
Hans can you help me?. The last time you help me find me a trouble in my
sources (redefine registers). Is this a buggy source?

Thanks in advance,
Xan.

PS: Yes, I know the source is big, but the error is simpl.

\section adds to the toc
\subject does not add to the toc

if you want unnumbered entries in the toc (eg in introduction) that
you need to use the sectionblock tags (frontmatter etc)

Oh!, silly question. But what happens with references when I substitute
subject for section?

Please try: simply change the \subsubsubject{L'espectre isoperimètric}
for \subsubsection{L'espectre isoperimètric} and I receive warnings that
no reference is found.

[NTG-context] Possible Bug(s) in bibl-ams.tex (mkii)

2009-08-12 Thread Xan

Hi,

1) First of all, I want to say that

\setuppublicationlayout[incollection]{%
  \insertartauthors{}{}{\insertthekey{}{, }{}}%
  \insertarttitle{, \bgroup }{\egroup}{}%
  \inserttitle
   {, in %

\insertseries
 {\insertvolume{, number }{~in }{ }}%
 {}%
 {}%
\insertchap{\unskip, }{ }{ }%
\insertpubyear{(%
  \insertpublisher{}%{, }%{}%
 }{)\insertEdition{, }{ ed. }{}}{}%
\insertpages{\unskip, p.~}{. }{\unskip. }%
   }%
   {In \insertcrossref{}{}{}%
\insertchap{\unskip, }{ }{ }%
\insertpages{\unskip, p.~}{. }{\unskip. }%
   }%
  \insertNote{ }{.}{}%
}

must be:

\setuppublicationlayout[incollection]{%
  \insertartauthors{}{}{\insertthekey{}{, }{}}%
  \insertarttitle{, \bgroup }{\egroup}{}%
  \inserttitle
   {, in %
   \bgroup\it}%
   {\egroup
\inserteditors{, edited by }%
   {}%
   {}
\insertseries
 {\insertvolume{\unskip, number }{~in }{ }}%
 {}%
 {}%
\insertchap{\unskip, }{ }{ }%
\insertpubyear{(%
  \insertpublisher{}%{, }%{}%
 }{)\insertEdition{, }{ ed. }{}}{}%
\insertpages{\unskip, p.~}{. }{\unskip. }%
   }%
   {In \insertcrossref{}{}{}%
\insertchap{\unskip, }{ }{ }%
\insertpages{\unskip, p.~}{. }{\unskip. }%
   }%
  \insertNote{ }{.}{}%
}

with \unskip before number (in
/usr/share/texmf/context/bib/bibl-ams.tex) . Else a white space between
coma and precedent text is putting. I used ConTeXt ver 2007.09.28 MKII
but I think this error is in more actual versions.

2) For the other hand, if we want to that publisher is inserted, we have
to put uncomment lines in publisher:

  \insertpublisher{}{, }{}%

With this change, context puts me the year of publication. Mysteriously
with the original, ConTeXt puts me the publisher (is this correct Taco???).

For example, in @incollection{millerIIIa2,
author = Charles F. {{Miller III}},
title = Decision problems for groups: survey and reflections,
booktitle = Algorithms and Classification in Combinatorial Group Theory,
year = 1992,
publisher = Springer-Verlag,
address = Berlin,
editor = Gilbert Baumslag and Charles F. {{Miller III}},
pages = 1-59,
series = MSRI Publications,
volume = 23
}

I get (in the past)

C.F M;iller III, Decision problems for groups: survey and reflections,
in {\em Algorithms and Classification in Combinatorial Group Theory},
edited by G. Baumslag and C. F. Miller III, number 23 in MSRI
Publications (Springer-Verlag, Berlin), p. 1-59.

Now I get,

C.F M;iller III, Decision problems for groups: survey and reflections,
in {\em Algorithms and Classification in Combinatorial Group Theory},
edited by G. Baumslag and C. F. Miller III, number 23 in MSRI
Publications (Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1992), p. 1-59.

For the other hand, in @article, for example in
@article{stillwell,
title = The Word Problem and the isomorphism problem for groups,
author = John Stillwell,
journal = Bulletin (New Series) of the American Mathematical Society,
volume = 6,
number = 1,
year = 1982,
month = Jan
}

I think it could be a dot after number, but I can't put manually: if we
have pages after, we have dot and comma. Actually, I think we need if
clause, but I don't know how get it. Taco, you surely do it better ;-).
Always the bib entries should be final dot (isn't?).

3) For the other hand, I think we need a dot between pages and note in
@article. For example in

@article{novikov,
author = P. S. Novikov,
title = On the algorithmic unsolvability of the word problem in group
theory,

journal = Proceedings of Steklov Mathematical Institute,
year = 1955,
volume = 44,
pages = 1-145,
note = Traducció anglesa a l'American Mathematical Society
Translations (2) 9 (1958), 1-122

}

we don't have . Traducció See the dot.

4) Finally, @inbook, I have dot between title and address and year. For
example in

@book{grillet,
author = Pierre Antoine Grillet,
title = Abstract Algebra,
edition = second,
year = 2007,
publishers = Springer,
series = Graduate Texts in Mathematics,
address = New York
}
I get

P. A. Grillet, {\em Abstract Algebra}. (New York, 2007), second ed.

and it should be:

P. A. Grillet, {\em Abstract Algebra} (New York, 2007), second ed.

Well I hope you note this. Not of all,
Xan.

So, please, can you let it a change: can you run context with this
source with the last subsubsubject changed to subsubsection and you will
see that there are a lot of warnings

maybe you have a bugged version (core-reg.tex can also contain that code)

[NTG-context] \setupfigures does not exist???

2009-08-09 Thread Xan

Hi,

In the manual (page 273) mentions that we can fix figures parameters
with \setupfigures, but when I put that, I receive the following error:

! Undefined control sequence.
l.233 \setupfigures

?x

Is this a typo of the manual or bug of software?

Thanks,

hi,

seems that you're running mkii ...

the following is not permitted as 'note' is actually the internal
footnote class so you basically redefine footnote (footnotes happen to
be notes in the footer)

\defineenumeration
  [note]
  [definition]
  [text={Nota},style=tf,titlestyle=bf,indenting=yes]

so, use something else than note

(mkiv is not so sensitive for this as there notes are enumerations
whils in mkii only the rendering of the note is a description)

Hans

Thank you very much, Hans. This is definitely the reason of that error.
The conclusion is that we always should define command with non-english
names ;-)

And yes, I have mkii. Sorry. I should mentioned it.

[NTG-context] I can't change startitemize[n]-- startitemize[1]

2009-07-23 Thread Xan

Hi Hans,

First of all, thank you very much for helping in the above problem.
Can you solve this now ? ;-)

When I change startitemize[n] to startitemize[1] in line 394 I get this
error:

! Argument of \dodoregister has an extra }.

to be read again
  $
l.395 \item $
\pi(x^{-1}) = \pi(x)^{-1}$ per a tot $x \in X$.
? x

Why?

I attach the source file and log file.
This is a long file, I know, but I don't know why with 'n' works and '1'
does not.

Thanks in advance,
Xan.

Thank you VERY much Hans. I'm charmed. Thanks. I was crazy finding the
error. I was convinced that it was a silly thing.

as you redefine \symbol to be a register entry resolving \symbol[1]
inside the itemize does not work any more as expected

so, when defining commands

- avoid built incommands
- for instance by using longer names
- or names that are unlikely to show up in the core
- or Symbol or MySymbol or so

Really, I did not know that. It's a messy thing that we could not define
what we like ;-)

furthermore, a few tips:

\setupbodyfont [cmr,11pt] % cmr, 11pt

% no need for cmr

Yes I know.

\setuphead[chapter][style={\tfd\bf}]

% \bfd is a bit faster (no need for {} unless embedded [])

OKay.

\usemodule[bib]
\usemodule[bibltx]
\setupbibtex[database=memoria,sort=author]

% avoid this in examples as we don't have your data

Okay. Sorry.

\usemodule[newmat]

% most math is in the core so that module is kind of obsolete

\usemodule[math-ams]

% not needed, as it is preloaded or loaded automatically
Mmmm... interesting. I remember that I put because I just want to put
one symbol. I don't remember why I have that

\usetikzlibrary[mindmap,arrows,calc,decorations.pathmorphing,decorations.markings]

% it seems that something is loaded twice (or at least dimension
registers are redefined)

\setupunderbar[alternative=b] % Fix underline style

% you can use the textbackgrounds for this (see anch-bar)

Thanks for this pointing

it's the nature of a tex macro package; ok, i can add some strict
testing for in in mkiv but even then it might just be that someone who
knows th einternals (like wolfgang or wolfgang or wolfgang) wants to
overload something built in by something better
In my modest opinion it could help: a warning that says you overload

We don't (yet) decide what goes in and what not. If any exception

We could start collecting exceptions, but I have no idea where/how to

I'm sorry, sorry, sorry ... I only remembered you were from Spain and
forgot to think about the fact that not only Spanish is being spoken
there, and particulary not where you come from ... In addition to that
both languages are similar (and I don't speak either of them).

Thanks Aditya. Just a thing, perhaps Taco should know it.
With:

@unpublished{millerIII,
title = Combinatorial Group Theory,
author = Charles F. {{Miller III}},
year = 2004
}

it's **not** space between Author and Title with ams bib style.
Instead, if we put @misc, all it's ok.

So it seems a (little) bug. Taco, can you confirm that?

Thanks Taco.
Yes, it's a little ugly code. My opinion is that perhaps you could write
a patch for easy that: something like \citen[ref, theorem; ref; theorem;
] (ref: reference and theorem the text what you want to display;
citen is cite with names). Just a suggestion.

Use \subject{Index} \placeindex instead of \completeindex. The same is
true for bibliography and other lists.

Thanks a lot.

But In the case of bibliography it's not true I think:
\completepublications[criterium=cite]
puts title without number

Xan.

(An alternative is to place index inside appendices and configure
sections inside appendices not to be numbered, but the first
alternative is easier.)

I feel like an important person: a fix accepted to ConTeXt source ;-).
I'm glad that that code served you as a patch (I had not this as
original intention, but good if I could help).

Nearly the same answer I gave to Charles Doherty two weeks ago
seems to apply:

In bibl-ams.tex, the \insertarttitle is commented out (line 286). I
have no idea whether that is 'officially' correct or not, but you could
remove the comment sign and see if the result pleases you.

Best wishes,
Taco

Thanks, Taco.
Moreover the file (that is located at
/usr/share/texmf/tex/context/bib/bibl-ams.tex) has incorrect style: by
default the title is join (with no space and no comma) of author.

I send you the correct style:

Hi Xan,

Thanks to your example and Aditya's explanantion I learned too…

I'm glad for that :-)

Here is how you can get what you want:

%%% begin example

\defineenumeration[lemma]%
[text={Lemma},
headstyle=bold,
between=\blank,
titledistance=0em,
textdistance=1em,
stopper={.\space},
location=serried,
left={\bgroup\bf},
right={\egroup},
width=fit,
style=italic,
title=yes,
titledistance=.3em,
titlestyle=sc] % or italic, or whatever you like

I think titledistance=1ex is better spacing. I don' t know what is
exactly the space between number and (). What width has space?

\starttext

\startlemma[reference]{ A brilliant result}
If $a=2$ then the set $H(a)$ is not empty.
\stoplemma

\stoptext

%%% end example

Best regards: OK

Thanks to you, Otared.

Xan.

Thanks, Aditya.

For the other hand, I possibly discover a bug:

I have that (sorry for the comments in catalan):

\defineenumeration
 [lemma]
 [text={Lemma}, % Què es mostra
  before={\blank[big]}, % abans de lemma, un bigskip
  after={\blank[big]}, % després de lemma, un bigskip
  headstyle=bold, % Negreta per la capçaleras
  %between=\blank, % Entre Lemmes una línia en blanc
  titledistance=.5em, % espai entre número i parèntesis.
  textdistance=.5em, % espai entre ) i text
  stopper={.\space}, % Com acaba. Després de parèntesis un '.'
  location=serried,
  width=fit, % que ocupi tot l'espai
  style=italic, % estil del text
  title=yes, % si puc posar o no arguments opcionals
  titlestyle=sc, % estil del títol
  way=bytext, % enumerar en tot el document
  conversion=numbers] % enumera amb arabic

\defineenumeration
 [definition]
 [lemma]
 [text={Definició},style=tf,titlestyle=sc]

\defineenumeration
 [notation]
 [definition]
 [text={Notació},style=tf,titlestyle=sc]

I have to specify the titlestyle in notation and in definition. If
notation inherits style from definition and this inherits from lemma, so
it should have the same style. So

\defineenumeration
 [notation]
 [definition]
 [text={Notació}]

should have all the same style as definition, but it isn't.

[NTG-context] Indent after formula in enumeration

Hi,

I have

\setupformulae[indentnext=auto]

but when I put a \startformula \stopformula in demo environment it does not
indent.
Why? What can I do for getting that?

My environment is:

number=no,location=serried,width=fit,headstyle=italic,
indentnext=yes,between=\blank,textdistance=.5em,closesymbol={\mathematics{\Box}},style=normal]

[NTG-context] Theorems with arguments like amsthm

2009-05-29 Thread Xan

Hi,

I have my environment of context that defines the theorems and lemmas
like amsthm in latex. For example, for lemmas, I have:

\defineenumeration
 [lemma]

[text={Lemma},headstyle=bold,between=\blank,titledistance=0em,textdistance=1em,

stopper={.\space},location=serried,left={\bgroup\bf},right={\egroup},width=fit,style=italic]

The question is how can I get the typical argument of lemmas: Lema 4.1
(superadditive lemma)? How can I add the possibility that lemma _could_
have one argument (the phrase in parentesis)?.

I'm not a TeX programmer, such a ConTeXt user.

Any hint?

Thanks,
Xan.

But if I do that, there is no space between the parentesis and number

Yes, I tried to download it previosly (because I think it's missing

Mmm... with \titledistance I have to put space between () and numbers.
But what is the dimensions of one space? 1em?

Now it remains only the bold topic.

[NTG-context] dot and comma in two consecutive cases

2009-05-24 Thread Xan

Hi,

I have this:
\startformula
 z_k = \startcases
   \NC x_k\MC 1 \leq k \leq N \NR
   \NC y_{k-N} \MC N+1 \leq k  N+M \NR
 \stopcases t_k = \startcases
   \NC r_k\MC 1 \leq k \leq N \NR
   \NC s_{k-N} \MC N+1 \leq k  N+M \NR
 \stopcases
\stopformula

but I want to punctuate that.

When I do:

\startformula
 z_k = \startcases
   \NC x_k\MC 1 \leq k \leq N \NR
   \NC y_{k-N} \MC N+1 \leq k  N+M \NR
 \stopcases, t_k = \startcases
   \NC r_k\MC 1 \leq k \leq N \NR
   \NC s_{k-N} \MC N+1 \leq k  N+M \NR
 \stopcases.
\stopformula

the dot and the comma appear too much separate from cases.

How can I get the normal behaviour?

Thanks in advance,
Xan.

Maybe for simple alignments the following is good enough?

\startformula
\left.\eqalign{

Thanks Aditya and Olivier.

[NTG-context] What is equivalent of latex math aligned in ConTeXt?

2009-05-11 Thread Xan

Hi,

I read the document Using \startalign and friends of Aditya (that it's

in ConText?

For example, what is the equivalent of:

\begin{equation*}
\left.\begin{aligned}
 2^2 | n_0\\
 4^2 | n_0 + 2 \Rightarrow (2^2)^2 | n_0 +2 \Rightarrow 2^2 | n_0 +2
\text{ ya que } 2^2 | (2^2)^2

\end{aligned}\right\} \Rightarrow 2^2 | (n_0 + 2 - n_0) \Rightarrow 2^2 | 2
\end{equation*}

in ConTeXt?

I tried something like:

\startformula
\startmathalignment
\NC \startaligned
\NC \lambda_{0, \lvert k - s \rvert} (n) \NC  f(n) \NR
\NC \text{ per a $n$ suficientment gran } \NC \NR
\stopaligned \NC  \iff
\startaligned
\NC \lambda_{s, k} (n) \NC  f(n) \NR
\NC \text{ per a $n$ suficientment gran } \NC \NR
\stopaligned \NR[+]
\NC \lambda_{s, k} (n)  f(n) \text{ per a $n$ suficientment gran } \NC
\iff  \lambda_{0, \lvert k - s \rvert} (n)  f(n) + C \text{ per a $n$
suficientment gran }  \NR[+]

\stopmathalignment
\stopformula

but Undefined control sequence appears to me.

Thanks a lot,
Xan.

[NTG-context] Demostrations ala AMS

Hi,

My code is:

stopper={.\space},location=serried,left={\bgroup\bf},right={\egroup},width=fit,
before={\bgroup\startframedtext[background=screen,frame=off,width=broad]},
after={\stopframedtext\egroup}]

\defineenumeration
 [lemma]

[text={Lema},headstyle=bold,between=\blank,titledistance=0em,textdistance=1em,

stopper={.\space},location=serried,left={\bgroup\bf},right={\egroup},width=fit,style=italic]

\definedescription[demo][location=serried,text={Demostración.},headstyle=bold,
indentnext=yes,between=\blank,before={\bgroup},after={$\Box$\egroup}]

The **problem** is how to put qed symbol (for example $\Box$ in my case)
at the end of demo. I try with after but it's not works: \Box appears in
the next line at the begginning. Can someone help me?

Re: [NTG-context] Is there anything like developer's manual for ConTeXt?

Yes, there is a hole in that way. I'm agree too.
Many have voiced the same complaint. I understand that Hans and every
one are occupied with building MKIV (aka LuaTeX), and that
documentation is not their highest priority. There's the wiki, the
wonderfully active mailing list, and what used to be decent docs from
2001/2002 timeframe. But yes, it's a steep hill to climb, made worth
it only by the relative awesomeness of ConTeXt.
If there is an existing strategy for creating documentation, I'd love
to hear it.
My feeling is it's it's time to pay someone to write some good docs.
Someone who's not on the development team, who has experience writing
technical documentation, and who can shepard list members into crowd
sourcing some real documentation.
The problem is who. Who has this high technical knowledge and he/she is
not developer?. People I know that have this high tech knowledge of
ConTeXt is developer.
  MKIV is stabilizing into usefulness, and now is a good time to
start. I suspect list members would donate to such a project, plus we
could get some grant money (if that's not all dried up due to the
global economy), and maybe some contribution from Pragma itself, and
other orgs that depend on ConTeXt. A patchwork quilt of financing,
and a project coordinator/writer who sees their work as a labor of
love, and a side job, could make this happen. Even if we could only
afford 10 hours of work a week, that could get a lot done.
In terms of process, I think someone to comb the list archives for
common problems and solutions, and wikify them would get the most bang
for the buck initially. These wiki entries could later be
ConTeXtified into printed (and screen) docs, like Hans' awesome old
manuals.

Good idea.
Just a suggestion. If someone starts new documentation, it should be
free. Now the only documentation for users is ConTeXt manual,
Context, an excursion (and some PracTeX journal and MAPS journal
articles). These documents are copyrated by Pragma. And for the other
hand the license of documentation of ConTeXt is Creative Commons
Atribution Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0.

I think it's better if the new documentation were free: Creative Commons
Attribution 3.0, Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 or GNU
Free Documentation License. It could estimulate more users than now.
It's my opinion.

Honestly, we've got smart people wasting time answering the same
questions in different ways on the list, when they could be plugging
in some of that time into writing docs for everyone. And as useful as
the list is, it's no substitute for manuals.

Really how many people are using ConTeXt and how many developers are here?
For example, how many people are subscribing in this list: it could
tells us what's the number of users.
If I understood ConTeXt I'd volunteer, but I'm a noob, so I'm feeling
the same frustration as Wei-Wei. I feel bad having to bug developers
and advanced users every time I have a basic question. It's
inefficient and inelegant, though I much appreciate the access to
great minds and the window into the development process this has given
me.
Pile on to this thread, if this is a burning issue for you, or you
have some strategy or expertise to offer.

Cheers,

Corin

Xan (a simple user)

Re: [NTG-context] Is there anything like developer's manual for ConTeXt?

You missed the reference manual rewrite effort (which is now in
remission mostly because of an extremely depressing lack of user
feedback).

  http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Main_Page#Documentation

That is GNU FDL.

You refer to this link
[http://foundry.supelec.fr/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/context-reference/en/?root=contextman]??

Where is the license explicited? There is no README/LICENSE or analogous
file and no head license in every .tex file.

Ooops, not: in
[http://foundry.supelec.fr/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/context-reference/en/contextref.tex?root=contextmanview=markup]
I see the license. Sorry

But should it put in every .tex file or in a LICENSE file? I'm not
lawyer. Just a question.

About 500, IIRC.

Thanks Taco.

[NTG-context] Logos of Context (context-free-design github repo)

2009-03-16 Thread Xan

Hi all of you,

After aproving of Taco and Mojca, I announce that I start a repository
of ConTeXt logos:

http://github.com/somenxavi/context-free-designs/

Now it has only the Taco logo that reproduce the contextgarden logo, but
it's open to anyone who wants to put in any logo. Just send me the file.
The only condition is that the license were free (public domain,
Creative Commons, )

I plan to put the logos in this repo in a Spreadshirt/Cafepress shop
that I want to open in a medium time. But the main intention is to have
a collection of ConTeXt logos freely distributable.

Once I open the shop, the intention is not to earn money, else that
fans of ConTeXt could have their t-shirts, cofee cups, . Surely I
donor the few dolars I win to NTG, CTAN or something else.

Sincerly,
Xan.

Yes, Wolfgang. Now I understand it.

support transparency? Strange. Really strange.

AFAIU, trasparency is implemented using specials in mp code, so the
eps (the .1 file) does not contain transparency, but the pdf does. Did
you open the pdf or the eps file in gimp?
Aditya, when I open pdf or eps file in gimp, gimp pop-up a windows of
convert the file. When the conversion is completed, it puts white
background in the image. So I can't see if pdf has _really_ transparent
background.

At least in older versions of (E)PS you cannot use transparent blue
or transparent red to fill shapes for example. But the background is
always transparent even in PostScript in the sense that unless you
explicitely paint the background with white, you can include your
image in another document and you won't see any white white
rectangular border around it.

Okay Mojca.
Anyone knows if newest version of eps support it?

GIMP doesn't really support EPS. I don't know what you need GIMP for,
but when I need to convert some EPS or PDF image into transparent PNG,
I do:

gs -dSAFER -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE \
  -sDEVICE=pngalpha \
  -dTextAlphaBits=4 \
  -dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 \
  -sOutputFile=converted_file.png \
  -r100.0 \ (put here whatever number you want)
  original_file.pdf

You can try that with the logo and you'll notice the transparent
background with GIMP.

Thanks Mojca for this script. I did the same with gimp with more more
effort (open eps file, gimp says that it should convert, then a file
with white background appears and then I substitute white background
with transparent background, and save as png file. Uf!!).

Mojca, how is this script for converting pdf file to (newest) eps? For
seeing if newest eps supports transparency.

Mojca
