I've found that it's a bit tricky to undo an in or out marker, because it gets confused. If you know you've done it wrong, just hit delete, and then control Z, to undo the delete. Hi, I have a "Power Users Guide" in print to Sound Forge 7 and 8 and I'm pretty sure that advanced batching and scripting options are available only in Sound Forge 8 and beyond. This would allow, surely, for complex tasks such as combining many smaller files into one large one. (Isn't there a way in the command line utilities within Windows to actually do this?) I throw these in as pointers, but will willingly defer to a guru on SF and Windows/DOS batch language. On the subject of accessing SF9 propperly, I believe JFW users have some good scripts curtasy of the Snowman. Surely only a mater of time before someone does the same for Window-Eyes 7 when its teathing troubles with scripting are sorted. Same might go for HAL 9 too. Play the file through to the bit where it goes quiet, then pause. Press control-home and this will select from this point to the beginning of the file. re: saving single channel output: was Another sound forge question
Hello, it's a little involved, so here it goes. Focus on the channel you want to save, such as the left channel, move to the top with control home, hit control shift end, and then copy that to the clipboard. Hitting control A to select all is not what you want, as that will select all of the data in the entire file, both channels. Hit control E to paste that to a new data window. When that happens, you'll be moved to that new window, and the audio from the left channel will be playing in mono out of both speakers. Sound Forge has thus already created a mono file for you. You'll save this in whatever way you want now. When that's saved, you hit control tab to move between sound windows. If you chose to close that current window upon saving, then you'll just be put back to the first thing you were working on. Hit tab until you get to the other channel, and repeat the process. It sounds involved when written out, but you develop a rhythm when doing it. Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of HotMail? Try Runbox. 1 gig of storage for a reasonable price. RE: Sound forge question
Brian, I see what Patrick is saying. I'm not familiar with sound forge, but I'm sure it would work as follows: Record a silent file as long as your ambience file. Play your ambient file up until the place you want it to get quieter. At that point in the file, mix your silent file on top of your ambient file, being sure to select fade-on-edges and to set the destination volume to -6 db or lower. (Destination volume = the volume of your ambience file, so you're forcing the volume down that way.) Then trim the silence from the end of your file and you're good. Re: Sound forge question
Here's what I do in Gold Wave, I'm guessing the procedure is similar in Sound Forge. First, select the portion of the sound where you want the fade-down to occur. Then run a fade-out on that selection to your desired level. Then copy the time of the completion of the fade into the standard clipboard. Set the new start of selected time to the time you just copied to your clipboard, and the finish time to the end of the file. Now just set your volume for the selected portion at the same level you faded down to in the previous step. Sound forge question
Hi listers, Well can this be acomodated with Sound Forge 8? Let's say we have an ambient audio track we want to begin at full volume. Then after afew seconds we want it's volume to decrease about 50 %. So what we want is to fade the sound out to half it's volume, and keep it there for the rest of it's intire length. Is this durable? Thanks in advance. Re: Sound forge Question about left channel to both speakers
I did mean option seven, stereo to mono 100 percent, use both channels. At that point in the process, since you've already muted the right channel, merging both the left and right channels will not matter, since the right is silent, and will not add any noise, however slight it would have been when not muted, to the mix coming out of both speakers. Re: Sound forge Question about left channel to both speakers
Thanks for this detailed advice. However perhaps you made a typo. I don't have stereo to mono, 100 percent, no faders. The ones I do have are. My guess is you meant 6 or 7. 1. Untitled 2. Mono to Stereo 100 percent 3. Mono to Stereo 100 percent, No faders. 4. Mono to Stereo 50 percent 5. Mono to Stereo, Invert phase Suedo Stereo 6. Stereo to Mono 50 Percent No faders 7. Stereo to Mono, Use both channels, 100 percent. 8. Stereo to Mono, Use both Channels, 50 percent. 9. Stereo to Mono, Use difference between Channels. 10. Stereo to Stereo, Inverted average 11. Stereo to Stereo, pan centre, use both channels 100 percent. 12. Stereo to Stereo, pan centre, use both channels 50 percent. 13. Stereo to Stereo, Pan centre, use left channel only 14. Stereo to Stereo, Pan centre, use right channel only 15. Stereo to Stereo, Swap Channels. 16. Stereo to Stereo, Vocal cut remove centre material. Appreciate your help. P. Re: Sound forge Question about left channel to both speakers
But you'd still get the hissing from the mixer itself, regardless of whether that channel is on or not. It still usually makes some kind of noise. I'm a perfectionist, and do archive work sometimes for personal use usually, and so this is what I use to get the best sound, by muting the unused channel. Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of HotMail? Re: Sound forge Question about left channel to both speakers
Hi guys, Another option to consider is if you have an audio mixer, plug the left channel in to let's say channel 1 and the right channel to channel 2. Then the channel you don't need can just be turned down. You can set the pan control for the channel you do want to the middle so it comes out of both speakers and then set the sound editor to record in mono. Thus avoiding the extra hiss from the unwanted channel. Just my thoughts. Re: Sound forge Question about left channel to both speakers
Hello, if all the audio is in the left channel, use the process menu, choose channel convert, and then choose stereo to mono, 100 percent, no faders. It's part of the presets in the box. That will get the job done. If the best of two channels is on the left or the right, and you want to ignore bad or low audio in the other channel, hit tab till the sound comes out of the channel with bad or low audio. Then go to the process menu and choose mute. That will mute only that selected channel. Hit tab till you get back to where the unmuted channel is playing your audio, and then do the steps outlined above. You then get only the good audio from the one good channel, without mixing in bad audio that might be on the other channel. This often happens with old tapes. That's why I brought it up, and thought I'd give you both situations so you could refer back to them at a later time if need be. This comes in handy if you have a tape where the audio only ever comes out the left channel. The right side is just a tape hissing noise, so better not to even have that at all. If you record in mono, then you're getting both left good channel and right empty hissing channel. That's where the muting one channel comes in the best use. Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of HotMail? Sound forge Question
If I have a file that has all the audio in the left channelll, and I want to have both channels with the same audio, how can I do this. I was trying to select the left channel then paste into a mono file, then I tried using the Channel Converter, perhaps I was choosing wrong options in this dialogue box. I seem to recall having achieved the required result in th epast but can't seem to figure it now. You need to try the pitch shift function. Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound
In the Resample dialogue there is a checkbox labeled "Check the sample rate only, do not resample". In order to get the speed you expect it needs to be checked when you do your resampleing. I've never understood why people do the resampleing. I always use pitch shift. If you're recording from a commercial tape deck then you would want to pitch shift down one octave or 12 semitones. Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound
Hi! Alt+C P will get you in to the pitch menu. There you have to hit S for Shift. You should be on some preset's. Try each one of them by down errowing and hit ALT+P to preview the setting's effect on your sound file. ALT+P is a toggle. Pressing it again will stop the listening of the selection. Use your mouse cursor to look around. each preset changes a few values on the screen. Final time and Musical equivalent. In my example they are: Final time (00:02:37.341 to 15:52:34.800): 01:39:57.669 Musical equivalent: Down Octave Hope this helps. Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound
Two ways to do what you want. You could go into Pitch which is off alt-c and fiddle with the sliders, using the preview function so that you can tell when you've got things the way you want. You could also go into the properties of the recorded file, alt-enter, look for the Performance tab with ctrl-tab, and move from 44,100 to 22,050. Make sure you do the Next recording at 44,100, so you can repeat the process. Actually, it doesn't have to be 44,100, it can be anything setting you can halve. Remember, this will effect the sound of the tape, so, if you decide to use 22,050 and go to 11,025, things will sound different from 44,100 and 22,050. Hope this helps. - Original Message - From: "Peter Scanlon" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2005 2:45 AM Subject: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound Hi, I am trying to record from a steroe tape deck to Sound forge. Sound Forge question for a friend
Hi list, I'm asking this on behalf of a friend, who uses JAWS with Sound Forge in a recording studio environment. He basically says that when he is in the dynamics plugin menu that JAWS does not read at all with Sound Forge versions 5-7, but that this was not a problem in earlier versions. He has used the Jim Snowbarger scripts in the past but found them difficult ... I do not know whether they would correct this problem. We are relatively sure this is a Sound Forge problem as JAWS behaves properly as soon as he exits this control. Does anyone have any suggestions I can forward to him? He is pretty experienced with Sound Forge but i have very little familiarity with it, so probably the more detailed instructions would be better since I am translating, smile. Thanks in advance for any help. Susan ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
