Re: Wide angle for K-X?
Besides the excellent 16-45 that some people suggested, there is the FA 20-35. Small, AF and high IQ too, though you would have to look for a second hand one. The Voigtländer 58mm 1.4 seems an excellent choice for an 85mm equivalent, but I think it will be hard to focus it accurately using the comparatively small K-x viewfinder, as you come from an MX which has an enormous viewfinder compared to APS-C DSLRs. Every time I compare my two MX to the *ist DS and K10D, I am astonished at the difference. But in that case you can buy a Pentax O-ME53 magnifying eyecup. Carlos Sandy Harris escribió: What I have in mind is the classic 35/85 two lens kit. 35 full-frame equivalent would be wide enough for most of my purposes. Good cheap 24/2 or 2.8 would be first choice if there was one. 21 Limited definitely appeals, but nothing wider unless it is a zoom. I thought of a 10-20 or 12-24 zoom, but I don't think I'd need the wider end much and those lenses tend to be fairly heavy expensive. On the longer side, 75 mm equivalent is the minimum, and I'd prefer a bit longer. Voigtlander 58/1.4 is my first thought. I can afford 21 Limited and 50/1.4, giving me two autofocus Pentax lenses. Those look like a good match and comments on them are all positive. 50 is not quite as long as I'd like, but you can't have everything. Voigtlander 58/1.4 would be preferable on the long end, but it is more money, not autofocus and perhaps harder to match. Might not work well with 21, too big a gap between. I thought perhaps the 58 and Sigma 24/1.8 to give me two fast lenses, but the Sigma i's fairly heavy and no-one here is praising it. I'm no longer considering that. The advice to use the 16-45 was a surprise. That is a pretty flexible lens. Going down to 24 mm equivalent may not be essential, but it is something I'd use. The obvious 2nd lens to go with it would be 70/2.4 Limited. That would be a bit beyond what I want to spend, but a very flexible kit. Hmmm Se certifico que el correo entrante no contiene virus. WTB: 77mm 1.8 limited
I have been saving for the last few months in order to buy a portrait lens, and finally I have made my mind and thought that the 77 limited would be my best bet. But with the recent price hikes, I am afraid I can't afford buying it new, so if one of you is thinking about selling this lens in excellent condition, I am ready to listen to offers. A cheaper alternative would be DA70/2,4 Limited. Thanks for your answer. Prices around here (EU) are cheaper, in spite of the recent price hikes. I can get a new one for 650 or 700 euros if I shop around, but I'm looking for a less expensive one, that's why I'm trying to find a used one. Re: Testing the sigma 20/1.8 a few galleries of test snapshots
Larry Colen escribió: Because the manual focus on it feels horrible. It's lumpy getting stiff with every rotation of the auto focus drive screw, then loose on the other half. This also sort of makes it tough to focus accurately if the focus point is where it doesn't want to turn. If the lens were bad optically, I'd just return it. It's too much to ask that all lenses feel like a supertak 50, but this one is beyond reasonable. I have the Sigma EX 28 mm. 1.8 macro. I know it isn't the same lens, but it is closely related, and the manual focus feeling doesn't have anything to do with your experiences with the EX 24 mm. If you disengage autofocus BOTH on the camera and lens, manual focusing with my lens isn't stiff at all, it is very fluid and nearly as good as with traditional manual focus lenses. So I'd say that your 24 lens is defective and you should exchange it. Like I wrote in a previous message some days ago, you must be sure you disengage AF by using both the camera AF/MF switch and also by pushing the focusing ring on the lens towards the camera body, as, unfortunately, these Sigma lenses can't deactivate the AF motor in the camera body only by using the lens clutch, like genuine Pentax FA* lenses do (FA* 24 mm. 2.0, FA* 300 mm. 4.5, FA* 80-200 mm. 2.8 and some others). Re: Focusing the sigma 20/1.8
You need to set both the camera and the lens to MF, as if you don't you will end damaging the in-camera AF motor. If you only use the lens clutch, it isn't like on Pentax FA* lenses, on which you only need to push backwards the focusing ring to disengage AF. Carlos Larry Colen escribió: Does anyone else have the 20/1.8? Optically it seems like a sweet piece of glass. Unfortunately while I needed it last weekend, it didn't show up until Monday and I haven't had a lot of time to play with it. The first thing that I noticed was that in manual focus, focusing it felt like it was turning a motor. It also turns out that if the lens is in manual focus, and the camera is in auto focus, autofocus still works, it's just that the focus ring won't turn when the camera focuses. Looking on the mount, when I manually focus, the drive gear for the autofocus will turn. The big problem is that this makes the lens unpleasant to manually focus, though it works fine, it feels bad. Is this the way it's supposed to work? Or do I have a bad copy of the lens? -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. Re: Cat photo :(
I'm really sorry about the demise of your cat/friend. I have been through the same a pair of months ago, and also lost my dear dog in April, it still hurts a lot (to say the least) and miss them both. Your Webster seemed to be a good boy and companion, and the portrait is very nice. Re: Looking for something wide and fast
Boris Liberman escribió: There is another Sigma lens, one which I would buy in an instant if I find a good sample - AF 24/2.8 Macro II. I had this one borrowed from a friend. Wonderful optic. Read somewhere that it was either co-developed or co-produced or co-something with Leica. As sharp as A 24/2.8, slightly more prone to flare, good bokeh and AF. Just as small and light (52 mm filter diameter). On digital it would make close to ideal street shooter's autofocus lens of angle of view of 36 mm with DOF of 24 mm lens. I have one of those and your words describe it very accurately. It is a gem of a lens, pity it doesn't have the improved anti reflection coatings of the EX series lenses. I had a Pentax FA* 24 mm. 2.0 which I liked a lot on film, less on the digital bodies and finally sold it. The FA* has many virtues: it is fast, well built, focuses fast and it is very contrasty. On the other hand, it shows red-green CA, easily correctable in post processing though. I also have a Sigma EX 28 mm. 1.8 which I like a lot, except for its weight and bulk. The USB 1.1 external HD's running through LR and saving on C drive is painfully slow. Twenty two conversion took 1 1/2 hours, mostly in lifting from the external i am thinking. Maybe $700 for a new PC build is not far off. You can always buy a cheap PCI card to add some USB 2.0 ports to your computer. If your external hard drives are USB 2.0 hi-speed compatible, you may see an increase in the transfer speeds between yout computer and the external HDs. Re: OT PC Surgery
David J Brooks escribió: Well, it looks like its time to do something about my 8 year old MDG P4 computer. Its been acting up again the last few weeks, not booting. It does after a number of reboots. I get a boot fail, system halted, or a full DOS screen with all my memory numbers and a few other things, and at the bottom i get press f12 to boot form network or f1 to enter set up. I enter set up, scroll over to exit and it boots. Its an old machine, slow and USB 1.1 to boot, but its calibrated well for my Epson 2400 prints, so i'm leaning on fixing it one more time. Going in Saturday for a look see. Hopefully adding a new HD and mapping my stuff off the old one will work. The HD was upgraded 3 years ago and never really worked well after. Many boot problems, but it would work, eventually. The symptoms you describe are compatible with an exhausted battery. Every motherboard has a small lithium battery to keep the PC clock running and also the BIOS settings which are kept in a CMOS memory. That battery (usually a CR2032) has the size and shape of a coin and it is cheap and easy to change. Around here, they are easily found in hardware shops or even supermarkets. They last about 8 or 10 years, so it seems that the one in your PC is already flat. I would buy one of those and try to revive the ocmputer.
