Logitech isn't purposely breaking anything; they're making changes that are needed or seen to be valuable, and sometimes those changes break 3rd party code. -Peter I know you're correct about this; however, if Logitech wants to establish a broader customer base, I think they're going to need to take more responsibility for ensuring that plugins work before they release an update. Many people just expect a product they buy to work, and they don't make any distinctions regarding 3rd-party developers. It all comes from Logitech's website, after all. As a comparison, imagine what would happen if half the apps on the iPhone or Touch stopped working when Apple released a software update, and Apple's only response was, Third-party developers! And you're screwed until they decide to fix it! As it is, I've upgraded my Touch multiple times, and I don't think a third-party app has ever stopped working. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver
In earlier versions of SqueezeCenter (including 7.3.2), the following default.map edit allowed me to call up SuperDateTime while listening to music (it is listed on http://www.gregbrown.net/squeeze/superdatetime.htm): 1. Open up \SlimServer\Server\IR\Default.map in your favorite raw text editor. 2. Scroll down to # textsize modes 3. Edit the text in that section to mirror:(Make sure to include the leading # where shown below.) size = dead size.single = textsize_toggle size.hold = modefunction_PLUGIN.SuperDateTime::Plugin-showme #size = textsize_toggle textsize_small = textsize_small textsize_medium = textsize_medium textsize_large = textsize_large 4. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Execute Script
I think you'll soon be happy with the srvPowerControl Plugin when the author has released a version for 7.4. This plugin works perfectly well under OS X (10.5 at least). It can do a lot more than sleeping the server. It is quite flexible, so you can run your own scripts when a power management action is to be taken. Any action can be tied to the sleep+hold button IR event. The current version does not install on 7.4. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Complete rescan failed to scan MusicIP
Can you clarify if the slower scan from the database is better in some reason than the faster mix scan? I'm assuming it must have some benefit, otherwise not just use the faster scan all the time? No the full MusicIP scan mode is worse - in my opinion it should be dropped, there's no need for it. The full mode effectively takes all song information from the MusicIP library, and copies it into the Squeezebox Server DB. MusicIP doesn't scan in song info as good as the Squeezebox Server scanner. There are several reasons why I think this worse: 1. MusicIP doesn't support as many file types. 2. MusicIP doesn't support multiple tags. eg. Multiple genres, multiple artists. 3. MusicIP does some weird stuff with missing tags. eg. a song with no album tag in Squeezebox Server appears under No Album, whereas MusicIP reports the song as belonging to album Miscellaneous. 4. Not sure whether you would get artwork throught MusicIP import. If you use the Squeezebox ServerScanner and full MusicIP import, then it may effectively be reading and storing tracks twice (takes twice as long). You are better off scanning music with the Squeezebox Server, and then only reading mixable status for the songs that have been scanned. Once the mixable status has been retrieved from MusicIP, the Squeezebox Server doesn't need to try again in the future (if you do a scan for new/changed files, it only tries to get mixable status for the songs that are not yet known to be mixable). ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Execute Script
Thanks for that information. On the plugins page (of Community) this plugin is described as working on Windows and Linux, but if one looks at the page for this specific plugin one learns that it also works on Mac OS X, which I had not known. There might be issues relating to use of 'sudo', as I do not run my Mac as an admin user, but there should be ways round that. That would get rid of the need for me to use the Execute on Demand option of the Execute Script plugin, which is what I currently have trouble with. I still need the other functions of the script, because of oddities in the way my Mac behaves, so I do hope it will continue to work in future versions of Squeezebox Server. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69121 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Execute Script
Have a look at the 1st page of the 'giant thread for srvPowerControl' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521) for the latest info. Fact is, sudo works in a totally standard way under X 10.5. (and 10.6 I guess.) I had posted in the thread a launchd daemon that runs privileged commands on behalf of a local Squeezebox Server. nc or telnet to replace sudo. That was an overkill, but actually I didn't try the sudoers route beforehand... So the code is there in the thread, just in case. Since 99% macs are desktop machines, Gharris999 has included a little trick that blocks server shutdown commands as long as you're logged in (uses logon/logout hooks). So the server never shuts down on you when you have a session and possibly documents open. Logout to the login window and srvPowerControl will sleep the mac if the players are inactive. The mac is the 1st platform to have this. X11/Gnome desktops should follow suit I guess. That's a very nice feature set, IMHO. And since the mac is so reliable at doing sleep/wake, using the plugin makes a lot of sense on this platform. May I ask what other tasks you run via your scripts ? (I will check 10.6 later, probably around 10.6.2. But I think Gharris999 has a mac as well.) -- epoch1970 epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69121 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Execute Script
Yes, I downloaded it, looked at the text information, and I think I can see what to do. I will experiment when the 7.4 version comes out. If Energy Saver works properly, then the machine will sleep after a set period if there is no keyboard, mouse, or hard drive activity. That means that if I am doing a BBC Listen Again, the machine is likely to sleep while I am listening. Solution is to run one of the little programs that prevent sleep by for instance) simulating mouse movement. And a fairly natural thing to do is to run such a program via Execute Script when I start playing something and quit it when I stop playing. That's far neater than setting Energy Saver to never and then setting it back. Also, many people have found that Energy Saver just does not sleep when it is supposed to. There seem to be loads of different reasons, and no-one has got to the bottom of this. So,to ensure my machine sleeps, I also use a program that forces sleep after the set Energy Saver time. But the program I use (and others that I have seen) seem to sleep if there is no keyboard or mouse action, even if there is hard drive activity. So if I am listening from my music folder, I still need to turn on a program that prevents sleep. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69121 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

For example, for tomorrow I'm seeing Clear with just a sun icon on the wunderground.com site, but for the same location your applet is showing a sun with clouds flashing on and off. Is that chance of clouds? The following day is predicted partly cloudy, and the icons on the web site and your applet are a static sun with clouds, which is what I would expect. There are two other things I'd like you to consider. To my eye, the main weather icon takes up too much space relative to the text. In my opinion the icon could be shrunk and either make the text bigger or add a provision for a third line of data. Secondly, what about using the whole screen for current conditions, and making subsequent days available via a button or wheel? I'm thinking here of something like the WDT approach, although I expect it would be harder to implement with the LCD devices because the UIs are different across players (SBC wheel buttons vs. SB Radio knob(s) vs. SB Touch's IR remote and touchscreen). But maybe there's some way to do it. I'm sure that some of my comments come from being a happy user of WDT (and sometimes SuperDateTime) for a few years, so I'd like to see some of the same functionality on the players with LCD screens. But I also understand that you don't necessarily just want to port WDT to the newer players, you want to have your own creation, and I certainly can't argue with that. Anyway, thanks again for an excellent applet. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68386 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XM radio plugin with 7.4?
Well, I for one I was going to add a Radio to my mix and maybe a touch also, but will not be adding it or upgrading to 7.4 until it supports XM. I know when the latest xm plugin was actively developed, it was tested it against the 7.4 branch at the time, so I suspect it must have been a fairly recent change in that branch that broke this plugin. I guess we can only hope someone picks this back up... thanks wharfrat for looking. However, definitely I agree with Corbey - ideally this either this core stuff was owned by logitech and they updated it or even more ideally, if they really wanted a real plugin ecosystem, they'd focus more on having some stable apis that wouldn't break all the old plugins on every point release. jd -- jdc jdc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23870 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68420 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Custom Clock applet for Touch/Radio/Controller
On Squeezebox Radio, I have Custom clock as my while playing screen saver. If I pause my music and then resume it, the custom clock screen saver never comes back until I power off and back on. It's happened often but I'm not sure if it's doing it all the time. I know it has happened while running on battery. Not sure if it has happened while on power. Now wouldn't it be great if there were a way to share trackstats ie take another user's trackstats and apply it to your library, leaving existing trackstats intact. Do you want to get it from a specific person or would it work to get it from aggregated information such as Amazon.com ? I've had some thought regarding a central TrackStat storage which would make it possible to do a lot of things by analyzing different users listening behavior and ratings. However, I've always got stuck due to two things: - I'm not sure my server would be able to handle the load and storage space needed - LastFM offers something pretty similar to this already today -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) (Install my plugins through Extension Downloader) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library, Title Switcher and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.isaksson.info/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69157 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

It might be possible with Erland's Multiple Library plugin (although I haven't played around with it much). The fiddliest thing would be mapping the urls/filenames across unless everything is tagged with MusicBrainz ids. -- smc2911 http://www.last.fm/user/smc2911/ smc2911's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4388 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69157 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
