Dear CAMR Member

The time is NOW to start calling your Senators and urging them to vote in favor of S. 5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.

On April 10, the Senate will begin a stem cell debate on two bills: the Senate version of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (S. 5) and an alternative bill authored by Senators Coleman of Minnesota and Isakson of Georgia. Votes on the two bills are expected on either April 11th or April 12th. There will be no amendments allowed and both bills will require 60 votes each to pass.

S.5 has been modified from earlier versions and will now include provisions from S. 2754, a stem bill which was passed by the Senate last year without opposition. This new section simply encourages the NIH to pursue other forms of stem cell research. CAMR remains fully in support of S.5.

The alternative bill by Senators Coleman and Isakson, the Hope Offered through Principled and Ethical Stem Cell Research Act (S.30) does not change current policy in any meaningful way and CAMR is not taking a position on the legislation.

Our message is simple - there is only one bill that matters, one vote that will advance stem cell research, one vote for patients, and that is a vote for S.5.

Call your Senators at:

Senator Brownback: (202) 224-6521
Senator Roberts: (202) 224-4774

Take a moment to share this message with your family and friends. We need as many calls made to the Senate as possible. Individuals can reach any Senate office by calling the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.

Thank you,

Peachtree, as I know it is a system of several buttons installed in a
headrest to activate relays. Usually related in electric wheelchairs, I have
also
seen similar technology in secondary drive controls for automotive driving
controls. The device is motorized and out of direction, until the auto driver
is locked into their driver's seat, then comes into position. Once again,
its a secondary device in automotive, not primary.

It is primary in electric chairs.
Hope this helps.

2007-04-06 Thread Peter Damiano
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released numbers today showing the US
economy is on fire, with unemployment at an all-time low and 160,000 new
jobs created in one month. The SP futures traded lock limit up, showing
a 30 point gain on Monday's opening. To make money, you sell into
strength. I will liquidate my positions on Monday afternoon, as Tuesday
(called Turnaround Tuesday) usually retraces Monday's performance.
Tuesday afternoon (hopefully) stock prices should be lower, and I'll buy
into weakness. Of course, this is not a certainty.
Two stocks among the 12 that I listed last week had moves over 15
percent. If anyone had put their one million dollars into either of
these two stocks, they would have racked up 250,000 in capital gains, and
received a 10,000 dollar check from CNBC. I'll try to send a new list on
Sunday afternoon.
Could all of those who joined the one million Dollar challenge send me
their name and e-mail. I'm trying to convince CNBC to add 10,000 dollars
to my portfolio. Currently, I'm in the top 24 percent.

[QUAD-L] Yes on S5, yes on a veto override

2007-04-06 Thread Angie Novak

Email 1/Day 1
Senate Bill 5 Campaign

Review Key Messages and Reach out to friends and family

  Hello,
As outlined in our introduction of the coordinated S 5 campaign, below are
your tasks for DAY ONE. If you want to receive the next 3 emails, please email
us.

Review the Key Messages. This will be just a quick look for some of you, for
others, perhaps a longer study.

I have included the highlights of our Key Messages and the list of Senators in
the sample email below. You can also use that for your own reference.

Go through your phone book or contact list and get in touch with all of your
friends and family. Tell them how important Senate Bill 5 is to you.

Below you will find, between the bold blue lines, a sample email that you can
copy and send to your friends and family. Of course you can feel free to edit
or re-write completely - this is just a start for those of you who don't have
much time to spare!
Please keep us posted on your progress. We are excited to have you on our
team of advocates. Thank you for all you do for stem cell research.

  Stay well,

  Amy Daly, RN
  Executive Director

-
Hello friends and family, Next week Senators in Washington will debate
Senate Bill Five (S 5), the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007.
This bill will expand federal funding of lifesaving research to allow
scientists to study cells that will otherwise be thrown away. If a couple has
already decided to throw away their extra embryos from fertility treatment, and
there is no chance for that embryo to be implanted in a womb to create man
said, I need a pregnancy, the couple would now be able to donate these cells to
science. S 5 will allow the country's best minds to access federal funding for
these studies. To see the full text of S 5, click here.
There is an alternative bill, introduced by Senator Isakson. This bill is a
distraction. Although this is a possible avenue of study, it should not be
considered an alternative to voting Yes on S5 and Yes on a Veto Override. This
avenue of study should be pursued along side of embryonic stem cell research -
not instead of it.
We believe that we have 66 yes votes: One more and we will have enough to
override the expected veto of President Bush. If we can get 67 votes, it will
put enormous pressure on those in the House who might oppose the research. We
have identified five Senators who might be willing to change their positions to
Yes (click here). To find out how your Senators voted on last year's version
of this bill, click here.

As you know, this research is very important to me. I ask that you help me in
the next four days to convince these Senators that they must vote Yes on S5 and
they must vote Yes on a veto override.
The first thing you can do is learn a little about embryonic stem cell
research, if you don't already know the basics. Below are some key points that
you should know.
The second thing you can do is help contact the five Senators who might be
willing to change their positions on this bill - with letters and calls. Below
the key messages you will find the list of these Senators. If you are
interested in helping, I will send another email with a sample letter that you
can modify to send to them. I'll also send along a sample script for calls.
Thank you in advance for your help. This is a critical time for stem cell
research in this country. This research is very important to me and I
appreciate your help in making it happen.
  Thanks~

Here are highlights of key messages on embryonic stem cell research. Click
here for a full page of key points on this research.
The Majority of Americans Support Embryonic Stem Cell Research - including
the vast medical science community, America's opinion leaders, patient advocate
organizations, Nobel Laureates, most organized religions, and more than 72% of
Americans.
This is a Family Rights Issue - Medical decisions should be made by you, your
family and your doctor. Political leaders should not be cutting families off
from access to this lifesaving research, but instead leading the effort to fund
this research. It is a family's right to decide and choose the best medical
care for their loved ones.
Embryonic Stem Cells - have the potential to provide lifesaving cures for
many diseases and injuries that cause suffering.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research - is NOT about abortion and it is NOT cloning
human beings. Supporting the research is a true pro-life position. Senator
Orrin Hatch has said, I think that support of this vital research is a
pro-life, pro-family decision. This research holds out promise for more than
100 million Americans suffering...
Stem Cell Research is our Legacy - Our parents' generation gave us cures for

My battery charger quit working and I was down to about 3 bars and they wanted
me to have my aid come get a nether charger that when we got it home, it was
the wrong model. My brother saved today and he was able to come out and
somehow get the connector to work but it seems to smell a little bit after the
discharge so I have not charged for two days as the bars did not go down. I
don't know what I do if he would not have come because my back up wheelchair
will not work, because my aid did not charge regularly and the batteries are
now dead, which my brother just bought last year at $188. I wrote my
wheelchair company several times and calls them but just got voicemail. She
would not even tell me how long it's going to take to get the batteries and if
she had received by doctor order. She e-mailed me to not write her or call the
voicemail anymore. I could not believe that. If my brother would not have
been able to get the connector to work, I'm not sure what I would be!
doing.and I'm not sure what he did. I would be sitting in a wheelchair
without any power. The Permobil is almost impossible to push. I wonder if
they are all that way. I don't like to be in my back up wheelchair, because it
causes pressure on my rear as it only reclines and slides you down each time
you recline.. I had to stay in bed a week after the last time I tear was
repaired when it took three weeks to get the part because of the pressure
although it was not open. We are told that we are responsible for our own
arrangements if our wheelchairs are not working. No one will cover repairs to
keep a backup functioning.. The company I deal with is Apria. It seems like
they have only one person to repair anything and getting parts is so slow.
They claim they are looking for someone, they probably don't want to pay anyone
and make us wait. It seems really unfair. We don't have a lot of companies to
choose from like able-bodied persons do with cars.

Does anyone else have this problem, when their wheelchair is down.
It seems like things will get worse with the new policy of waiting till the
wheelchair repair costs are as much as a new chair. We will be having repairs
all the time and not at once, so we cannot get a new chair for a long time.
The repair people told me that it doesn't matter whether you have insurance or
Medicare that the insurance pretty much follows the same rules as Medicare .
What does anybody know about that or is it make a difference on what kind of
insurance you have

I wish it was that easy and I hope that its still that easy. DMEs are hiding
behind their counters everytime
someone rolls in. Many are requiring their customers to pay up front and then
receive a rebate when CMS agrees to pay and finally DOES pay. Often, payments
are slow due to code errors and refiling of the paperwork. And more denials.
General policies have gone out the window with across the board approval.
Most don't realize how bad it can be until they need a new chair or have to
have their chairs repaired.
Best Wishes

As for MSN Instant Messenger, I am still using the older version and often

I just realized that my 6 mile trip was one way and then I had somebody
pick me up at the mall later in the evening. It is just too hot most of the
year in Florida to make that trip very often. However, when my chair was
quite a bit faster, I could make the trip in one hour. I figured my chair
was driving over 7 mph since I was being held up by traffic, traffic lights,
and some degraded sidewalks. Now I'm probably be lucky if my chair does 5
1/2 mph. I guess I can't complain about an 11-year-old chair still
operating that well.
If only the new Peachtree system is as good as the old one, I would get a
new chair right away.

At 07:06 PM 4/3/2007 -0700, Greg said something that elicited my
 response:

I decided to go on a long drive today, to see how far I could go.

They have a trail system though our city and neighboring cities they are
just fixing up. It used to be mostly a farming area in the desert, so it has
lots of canals. They paved a 10 foot wide path along 1 side for jogging,
bikes, etc. Dirt on the other side for horses. It starts by my house and I
followed it for 14 miles through 2 cities. I could have gone further, but it
crossed over railroad tracks. I might have been ok in going over them, but
it was in a quiet location and I did not want to get stuck. There was about
a 3 inch gap between the edge and the rails With a low drained battery, I
did not want to risk it. It s a fun trail, the canal is maybe 20 feet wide
and has lots of fish in it. Many kinds, the grass carp are 3 feet long. The
trail connects a bunch of town parks, so I took my time and checked out the
parks as I went through. Though some of the trail is just threw commercial
development areas. After I was done, I didn t want to risk the drive back,
so I had called home to get picked up. That s the furthest I ve ever driven,
15 miles by the time I was finished. My chair has a mileage count on the LCD
 panel.

I don't know if the site is having a problem or what, but I tried to find an
area which discussed exactly what it is and gave a picture. Unfortunately,
it would not bring up the site.
If you do a search for Peachtree, Quadius it will show an entry that I made
on the Invacare boards. One of the individuals on there was nice enough to
provide a bunch of information on the product. However, the new one is not
that great. I haven't found anyone yet that likes it.

What is a Peachtree driving system.?

Peachtree, as I know it is a system of several buttons installed in a
headrest to activate relays. Usually related in electric wheelchairs, I
have also seen similar technology in secondary drive controls for automotive
driving controls. The device is motorized and out of direction, until the
auto driver is locked into their driver's seat, then comes into position.
Once again, its a secondary device in automotive, not primary.

It is primary in electric chairs.
Hope this helps.

According to the link you sent, the corner stated to cause was (I believe I
am remembering correctly) pneumonia of the bronchial, quadriplegia, and some
other items.

When Curtis Mayfield passed, it was due to his diabetes
But they also mention quadriplegia. Its was due to his diabetes.
When I receive more info, I'll advise.
