For those of us who prefer not to run a local server, but don't mind
tinkering around inside a Linux filesystem, is there perhaps a geeky
way to do it using telnet or similar?

If so, I'd be grateful if somebody could point me to a page (hopefully)
that documents the various settings and where they're kept. Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Radio] One problem, among many

2010-07-28 Thread Ron Stordahl

I have numerous problems with my SBR Hardware version 5 Firmware version
7.5.1 r8837, but I will describe one which is 100% repeatable, and not
temporarily correctable by rebooting.

I use mysqueezebox.com (I do not run Squeezebox server).

If I am listing to a station, any station, and then power down the
radio by pushing the power button, the radio switches to the clock
display and the audio stop...this is all as it should. When I
subsequently want to start the radio by pushing the power button, it
appears to resume, but the connection to the radio station is
apparently not retried..if it is it is unsuccessful. The only way to
get the radio to resume is to manually reselect the station. This is
most easily done by programming one of the six selection keys to a
desired station. Upon pushing one of them the radio immediately
reconnects and plays.

If instead I set the timeout, say to 15 minutes, and the alarm clock to
'start' after this, say 10 minutes later, the radio shuts down at 15
minutes as it should, then at the alarm time (in this instance 10
minutes later) the radio restarts, but fails to play. It behaves, in
other words, exactly as described in the preceding paragraph.

There are other problems, which require rebooting to temporarily fix,
but I should think the simple problem I described above, if others are
experiencing it represent a firmware issue which needs to be resolved.

Can others reproduce the exact problem I am describing?

I don't think the radio is supposed to start up the stream that was
playing when it was turned off when it is turned back on. I know that
is what a normal radio does, but I don't think this radio was designed
to do that. I may be wrong.

The only way to get the radio to resume is to manually reselect the

The whole issue of the radio turning on and off randomly and/or the
alarm not sounding properly may be due to two bugs that look like they
will be fixed in the next firmware release. See post number 70 here
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79825page=7) along
with the two bug reports at Bugzilla (Bug 16170 and Bug 16295). The
radio behaves much better if it is never turned off.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] One problem, among many

2010-07-28 Thread Ron Stordahl

With regard to the radio resuming the station playing at the time it was
turned off: This seems much to me like a fault as it acts the same way
when using the alarm. If the radio will not play when the alarm time
is reached then what good is the alarm? To me it seems like the same
problem as powering down and then up.

As regards firmware updates, I have it it just short of a month with
many problems, ranging from screen freeze to unexpected reboots.

It surprises me that Logitech would actually sell a product with so
many known faults. If I were in charge I would suspend sales/shipments
until the claimed functionality actually worked.

But that is just me!

Power On Resume behavior is a configurable option when using a local
Squeezebox Server. Is it completely missing from MySqueezebox.com
settings?

Since it's not configurable, does anyone know for certain what the
expected behavior is?

If it does not resume playback when powered on, isn't simply pressing
'Play' enough to resume the stream? The radio station should still be
in the playlist, so I don't see why you would have to queue it up again
via preset or other means.

Note also that the Radio will respond to the Play button even when off.
So you can restart the stream with a single press - but of the Play
button, not the Power button.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] One problem, among many

2010-07-28 Thread Ron Stordahl

The Settings-Player-Audio-Power On Resume setting which Marc
describes in SBS does not appear to be available in the SBR menu nor on
mysqueezebox.com.

However pushing the 'play' button does wake up the radio and it
resumes. That is acceptable so I withdraw that criticism.

I will have to experiment further with the alarm, setting it via
mysqueezebox.com...but not tonight, its late.

I did mention there were other problems...one very annoying one is when
switching between stations, using the presets, the screen on the radio
will occasionally freeze at the station I was listening to, but the
music will switch to the new preset I have pushed. After this happens
all the presets remain functional, but the screen is frozen. The only
way out of this is to reboot.

Has anyone seen this?
