You can get the board from radio shack or similar. I HIGHLY recommend getting some pre-cut ones, as cutting that stuff is extremely difficult.

2004-12-16 Thread Tom Broeski
Take the lock with you, but use something like a binder ring or a hitch pin
on the airline. Securely fasten whatever you use to the case and hope they
put it back right if they do open the case.

If you use a lock, hang the key on the lock. Use a cable tie to keep both
the key and the lock attached to the case.

Skip Miller has a nice clip that he uses, but I haven't found one quite like
it.

If you know if any links for bag venders please let me know.

[RCSE] Disappointed

I am very disappointed in how many of you ignored my plea NOT to come to
Phoenix (actually west Globe) for the CASL Southwest Classic (SWC). I just
noticed how many guys entered after my initial plea not to do so.

So for those of you who have not yet entered, THANK YOU, and please don't.

Based on the current entries I am going to have to work pretty hard as it is
do even do half way decently. Top ten looks pretty much out of the question
now thanks to the guys that have already ignored me. Any more show up and it
will take all the fun out of it for me :~{

So for those that haven't entered, why not stay home with your families?
Bond with the kids, clean that garage and make your significant other wonder
what's up, paint the house, mow the lawn, do anything, but stay home. What
do I have to do next, BEG???

Oh, and one other thing, the CD flies POWER!! And I'm talking about BIG
noisy planes too, not nifty little electrics. How can you trust that kind of
guy anyhow? He has forsaken you my glider guiding brethren and deserves not
your support!!!

Entry closes in early January I think, so I'm really only asking you to
procrastinate for a couple of more weeks!!

So help a guy out, will ya' ??? It's Christmas after all!!

Re: [RCSE] Glider Bag choices?

2004-12-16 Thread Jack Harper
Separator/cushion is easy. Just cut up a 5$ sleeping bag pad from
WallyMart, the light blue ones are good for this. I use these to get two
three piece wings in a regular sailplane bag with all the parts separated
and padded. Really helps the hangar rash.

The snow board bags are great, and they are way more rugged than the
sailplane bags. For travel to the field they work well.

But, I would not ship in one of these, because your sailplane will not take
near the abuse that a snow board will, and the baggage guys have been known
to break/damage snow boards. They may think your ship is a snow board -
and handle it that way.

Here's an interesting alternative if you just need to store the
 wings...

These bags, some of which are padded, are for snowboards (single
compartment) so you'd have to come up with your own wing panel
seperator/cushion but that shouldn't be difficult (foam, bubble wrap,
etc.) Some are 165 cm (64) and others are 180 cm (70). The price
 is definitely right!

 Just a idea.

As many of you know, I have flown JR gear for the majority of my soaring

I could buy and fly in competition, and helped anyone out that I could that
wanted to know what I knew about the radios. I have always privately
wanted to be on Team JR, but rarely spoke of it and never thought the
opportunity would arise because I never thought, when it came down to it,
that I was good enough compared to other guys on the team.

Today I was invited to join Team JR, and now my models will sport their
logo, and I will wear red to all the contests. I can't express properly in

Re: [RCSE] need G-10 for control horns, or suitable substitute

2004-12-16 Thread Bill Conkling
Yes

There are many sources of this material. What you are asking for is a
fibreglas/epoxy laminate. It is used for circuit boards for all kinds of
electronics. You can purchase sheets from plastic suppliers in your area,
look in the yellow pages.

Or, look for a business that makes printed circuit boards, and contact
them for scraps. You might even examine old circuit boards from
electronic divices, as often you can find areaa of the borders that are
useful for the horns and bellcranks you need.

And, last but not least, you can make your own. West Systems or similar
epoxy is best, but just about any epoxy resin and several layers of glass
cloth can be laminated between two sheets of release film, or Monokote
backing or even the 'plan rotector' from GP. Squeegee out all the air and
most of the resin to make a very dense laminate. Cover with books or wood
board, and add lots of weight. Ideal results can be had with vacuum pump.

Gordy,
Now that I know that you have a previous engagement on New Years Day ;-)
Everyone Else,
The Orlando Buzzards will be having seeded man on man contest on New Years
Day. If you are going to be in the area and would like to join us drop me
an email. I will need to know your radio channel so we can avoid conflicts.

This is not a sanctioned contest, fly whatever you bring. Change planes,
wings, tails or whatever as often as you like. We'll launch in groups and
normalize the scores. Each round you will launch against guys whose scores
are close to your own. They are the ones you have to beat in order to move up.

We'll have some food on the field and of course the weather will be a balmy
70 degrees or so with light winds and scattered puffy clouds floating in a
sea of blue! (My forecast is as good as anybody's!)

If you're in Central Florida come on over and join us! (Walk-ons are
welcome. We'll do everything we can to see that you get to fly.)

the new year as part of the contest.

I was lucky enough to get 'longest flight of the new Millenium' a couple
of years back.

I won't be going for a win, just need at least 10 pilots to attend for a
contest 'count' toward finishing off my LSF3. Bloomington will be the
first of the three I still need, Dallas Dec 9th will be the second. Its
all down hill for me after Dec 9th. Likely the third will be my defense

So see you at Bloomington.

Re: [RCSE] need G-10 for control horns, or suitable substitute

2004-12-16 Thread Mike Reed

I make my own horns from carbon laminate. Use slow CA glue to laminate as
many layers that you need.

Glass laminate will take out your jigsaw blade in one minute. Carbon
laminate will not kill your saw that fast.

A laminated carbon horn will also outlast your sailplane. .

[RCSE] Sportube answer

2004-12-16 Thread GordySoar
Yhe problem with clips and locks other than a TSA Lock is that I have had
vandalism and got Sportube HALVES coming out of the baggage conveyor. With the
TSA lock, you can stand there and help the TSA inspector take it apart, and put
it back in, and supposedly it will not be reopened after that inspection.
Holes punched in my carbon wings, big ones, and bent in half rudders is what
you chance and noisy bored backroom baggage guys looking for goodies.
Gordy

Take the lock with you, but use something like a binder ring or a hitch pin
on the airline. Securely fasten whatever you use to the case and hope they
put it back right if they do open the case.

If you use a lock, hang the key on the lock. Use a cable tie to keep both
the key and the lock attached to the case.

Skip Miller has a nice clip that he uses, but I haven't found one quite like
it.

[RCSE] GENIE COMPOSITE FUSES AVAILABLE!

2004-12-16 Thread Harley Michaelis
I've been collaborating for several months with Keith Smith, d/b/a Pacific
Sailplanes, to produce a dedicated composite fuselage for the big GENIE
sailplane. The intent is to accommodate modelers who would build the ship
with such a fuselage
available.

Orders can now be placed through www.pacificsailplanes.com/. The site is
very much in an early stage of construction, so please be patient.

To see an enlarged picture of the fuselages, click on the ONLINE STORE box
from the Home Page that displays. Click on the tiny, left side thumbnail.
When the Security Information box then appears, click on Yes.

Go to the GENIE web pages at http://genie.rchomepage.com/ for complete
information on the GENIE sailplane. A new file THE GENIE COMPOSITE
FUSELAGE is now included. Under the heading Other Miscellaneous Files
click on Composite Fuselage Option.

With many pictures and text, this new file details how to utilize the
fuselage to complete the GENIE sailplane. The WHAT'S AVAILABLE? file tells
what's available to purchase to use in the construction of this unique,
scratch-buildable airframe.

Questions??? e-mail me about anything other than ordering fuselages.
