Re: [RCSE] RF Synthesizer
No, synthesizers are not the same as using a crystal, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use them. Their spectrum may not be quite as clean as a crystal set, but they're still within spec if they're working properly. Synthesizers are tuned just like a crystal set is. dial-a-crash refers to one person having every 72 MHz R/C channel available to him on his transmitter basically at his finger tips. It's just the same if somebody came out to the field with a bag of crystals, one for every channel, just most people don't do that. And so since you have every channel there available to you, this worries some people that careless, selfish, or absent minded people are going to come up on their frequency when they don't properly obtain the frequency. -Charles On Wed, 22 Dec 2004, Thomas Koszuta wrote: But are the RF Synthesizers really the same as using a specifically tuned module and crystal? Here in South Africa some clubs have a handicapped league which works like follows: Open fly 10 min. max and get bonus for landing in 3m circle RES type fly 8 min Max and 5m circle 2m fly 6 min Max and 5m circle. All the scores is then normalised to a 1000 points. It works well and is a lot of fun and many more pilots have joined the competition over the past 2 years and have improved their flying skills. Re: [RCSE] RF Synthesizer
But are the RF Synthesizers really the same as using a specifically tuned module and crystal? Names like dial-a-crash and the like come to mind. Software controlled synthesisers (e.g. Multiplex Evo HFM-S) are in principle safer than Xtals. - the UI is designed to prevent accidental changing of frequency. - since the actual frequency is displayed on the LCD screen there can be no confusion. Modules with rotary switches are another matter. Mike RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] RF Synthesizer
But are the RF Synthesizers really the same as using a specifically tuned module and crystal? Names like dial-a-crash and the like come to mind. The Futaba module shown on the Web site is like the Hitec Spectra module -- you alter the frequency using small rotray switches to set the channel number. These switches are (on the Hitect) placed on the back of the module so they're not accessible once the module's put back into the transmitter. When I first got one of these modules I thought that there would be a front panel control for the channel -- dial a crash -- but Hitec had obviously thought this one through. The only concern that I have is those switches. I'm familiar with this type of switch and they're just not designed for frequent adjustment (they're like crystal sockets, BTW). So anything other than occasional adjustment of the channel is likely to make them unreliable. You also have to look closely at the settings -- the slots tend to widen out with use so its very easy to accidentally set the channel to one adjacent to the one you were going for. Re: [RCSE] Vtaila ball-link removal - best practices? Tools?
The nails fashioned into pliers is an inventive and impressive solution. What we're looking at is essentially a Snap Ring Pliers. All that's needed is a pair of pliers whose tips separate when the handle is squeezed. Or, you could grind the tips of a needle nose pliers into a flat and suitable shape. Then just separate the handles to remove the ball link. Super simple and very cheap since a high quality tool is unnecessary. There's a plethora of choices. [RCSE] Satisfaction from the Futaba Service Center
I have received an email from the manager of the Futaba Service Center in which he expresses regret at the treatment I received when I tried to have them deal with serious product deficiencies in their 5 channel PCM radios back in the 90s. I have also received an explanation of why this is unlikely to happen in the future. Recognition of the problem and a desire to set it straight is what I have been looking for all the time. Now that I have it, Futaba is back on my buy-list. Happy Holidays to you all! Anker
