[RCSE] Insurance Question answer...snore :)

2006-01-28 Thread GordySoar

AMA has always been a secondary insurance policy. If you have no other,
then it kicks in.

The sky ain't falling and a discussion on the topic will be the usual. When
everything is said and done ...more will always be said than done.

There is always the alternative of not joining up with AMA, saving the $50
(or whatever) per year, and avoiding their crappy insurance policy :-)

These topics are great chatters, but by far building something in your shop
will be more satisfying and productiveand all of joined the RCSE to hear
about that kind of thing.

If your question was more than rhetorical, send your post to the
insurance person at AMAmight even get an answer that has something more than
opinion. Sorry, I come up with whacky stuff when I work late into the nite
on planes :-)

So what are you building for this season? I'm working late
on a Compulsion for a clubmate.

You can't, but the AMA can ('cause we send them lots of due$ and they have
some invested savings!). I.E., any claim liability that ultimately accrues
to the AMA coverage (any coverage you have pays first, then you pay AMA coverage
deductables),they pay the first $250K, and any remainder is paid by their
insurance company. Good Lift!

[RCSE] RC Soaring Calendar 2006

2006-01-28 Thread James V. Bacus
I just received a sample of a full color photographic RC Soaring Calendar
for the 2006 season from Mark Miller at http://www.isthmusmodels.com/

It is full of pictures of beautiful planes and soaring friends from across
the country, very nice photography and professionally put together.

I think he will be selling these when he gets back from the Ukraine next
month, I'm sure some of you guys will want to get one of these. It was a
great addition to put on the wall of the shop this morning, and I am
filling in all the contest dates I want to attend.

Send Mark an email if you are interested.

Artemis LT cross-tail, built - just add you receiver and fly, yellow fuse and top surfaces, red bottoms, Multiplex digital servos, does have scratches on fuse bottom/wingtips from landings but no damage otherwise. $750

I live in S. California (Victorville) and will work with you on delivery in this area, and I will be traveling to the San Francisco/Oakland area in a couple weeks up the I-5 freeway so can possibly do delivery in those areas. Feel free to email with any questions!

[RCSE] Good news and Bad news

2006-01-28 Thread Tom Nagel

We had a beautiful day here in Central Ohio, for
January or just about any other month: 55 degrees, sunny, SSW
winds. There were 9 cars at the little Linnville slope, as many as I
have ever seen there.

A new club member got his first
slope flights in, and I think he's hooked.

 And nobody broke much of
anything.

The bad news is that when I
arrived, the surveyors were just finishing up. The land owner has
sold off some lots, and building will start in a few months. I hope
the new owners like RC sailplanes and will want to fly with us.

[RCSE] *Hey did you happen to see the most beautiful plane in the sky?

2006-01-28 Thread GordySoar

I did and it was my new Sharon. This plane has the new bigger stabs
and with them when I pull back on the stick the nose goes up, and when I push
down on the stick the nose goes down...with the older smaller stabsthe same
thing happened :-)

I flew the Sharon today(cherry buster flight)but just one hop
up, was tired and it was getting windy on our field and filling up with
kites. It is sooo pretty I almost can't stand to look at it :-)
Volz blue fuse, white tops, red tips, 1" leading edge red, red bottoms,
red LE on a white Vertical

I put her together and a guy walked by and started crying, its sooo
gorgeous.

Also flew the Giant wing on the Pike today. WOW. its gonna take
some learning but man I took a thermal wa far away and then
realized how far away down wind I was...over forest and golf course and
subdivision yipes... How far away WAS I...well if it had been DP, the
plane would still be going, but fortunately my superior flying skills and
experience came thru she came home no problem to catch another.

I didn't set the balance just threw this wing on my Superior fuse and
stabs.I think its flying at about 55% :-0.

Inverted I have to pull some UP to keep it from ballooning...versus down to
hold the nose level

Makes it kind of quirky :-) I guess someday I'll have to outfit its own
fuse so I can get it own balance figured
out.Gordy

RE: [RCSE] Good news and Bad news - slopin'

2006-01-28 Thread Brent

My brother and I hit Brookville (IN) today, was much
better than I expected - S winds, 10-15 with lots of lift. Helped my
brother dial in his new HalfPipe, made mine look pretty ratty (almost a full
season in on it, and the rocks and guardrails are taking their
toll). Plan was to get him flying on the backside by the end of the
day, mostly successful. It's addictive. If you have not tried DS'ing
yet, you have to try it at least once.

I'm definitely hooked
- spent the last hour working on making good circles. was getting some good
speed going. Learned that tighter cricles were faster, maybe just feels
that way? Regardless,I felt like today was my fasted day yet.
For a sailplane guy, there's nothing like the sound of an engine-less ship
going by fast enough to make that kind of noise.

Good thing I'm still
flying foam, tho - "set her down" hard enough to bend metal control horns, but
the ship could fly tomorrow. Good News / Bad News?
Good
news, still one of the best sites to fly around. Bad news, I won't be out
there tomorrow.
