Or are there security updates I can apply to what I have? I just got the message from PayPal today. I just used it last week to pay for a couple of eBay items. Tony, if you check Paul's Build Identifier you will notice that his SM identifies as both SeaMonkey *AND* Firefox. More and more sites are browser sniffing and displaying their data to suit the browser, but only a few browsers are accepted, MSIE and Firefox being two. This problem is so widespread that when SM 2.1 is released, it will identify itself as both SeaMonkey AND Firefox, just like Paul's 2.0 does now. Tony, if you want to fix this situation in SM 2.0.14, enter about:config in a browser address line. You will get a warning screen, if you're comfortable accept it, then in the Filter line of that screen type useragent (without the quotes). Then either alter general.useragent.extra.seamonkey to include the word Firefox (and a version number if you like), or right click on any pref and give yourself a NEW string pref, general.useragent.extra.seamonkey.firefox, set it as a string and give it a value that includes the word Firefox (without the quotes). Close the prefs page, restart SeaMonkey, go to the pages that were giving you troubles and see how you go. Report back here if necessary. I don't use PayPal but I'm always interested in problems with the UserAget. Seamonkey upgrade from 2.1RC2 to 2.1 final failed
Upgraded to 2.1RC2 a few days ago and everything worked just fine (working with Win7). Today tried to upgrade from RC2 to 2.1 final via Check for Updates. Update to 2.1 final was found and it started normally but then did not finish normally, all dialogs just got closed and there was no Mozilla processes in process list. I then started SeaMonkey again from the desktop shortcut and then the upgrade seemed to continue, UAC prompt and so on. Then when it was checking for compatibility with addons the upgrade process hangend, windows reported that the process is not responding. Had to kill the process manually at this point. After this I downloaded full installation and tried install again. This time install went through normally but now SeaMonky does not start with my profile. Seamonkey window does not open, process is running but it does nothing. Same thing even in Safe Mode. With new profile it works fine. Obviously something in my profile got corrupted. SeaMonkey 2.1 Bookmark behavior
In the past I would click on FileBookmark and be able to scroll to the folder I want. Now there is an extra unnecessary step. BookmarksFileBookmarksBookmarksMenuChoose. I think the use of drafts is confusing here, Outbox holds undelivered messages, Drafts holds messages subject to further editing, Templates holds starting points for future mails. While you could go to Outbox, open a message, edit as new and send, that's not the normal use. What's in Outbox should be final form messages ready for delivery, rather than a draft, which is a work in progress. In the older editions, clicking on cookies displayed all of them, and deleting them could be done with one further click. Now, in the new 2.1, cookies are only displayed by domains, and deletion involves many steps of clicking on a domain, and deleting each domain's cookies one at a time. So, I sometimes wind up clicking on a hundred times or more to delete cookies, whereas with the older system, two clicks sufficed. Is there any way to get 2.1 to revert to the former and better cookies method? Thank you. Is this one giant leap for mankind or a typo, or is the development really working on releases years away? No. It's the new rapid-release cycle, in parallel to the Firefox cycle (except that Seamonkey is using the more-related-to-real-amount-of-changes minor version numbers while Firefox is using major version numbers, like Google Chrome has been doing. Blame Google for letting marketing people decide version numbering...). 2.1 was just released, 2.2 is beta branch, 2.3 is Aurora branch and 2.4 is bleeding-edge trunk nightlies. The idea is to have new releases every couple months or so. I don't know what's changed, but I'm not giving it up, it is blindingly faster than the 2.1.1pre or 2.1 release. Neat stuff! Mort Linder There were a number of bugs associated with the old design of the Bookmarks Manager. The developers chose to resolve those problems by putting bookmarks into places.sqlite, a database instead of an HTML file. If you merely want to see your bookmarks (not actually edit them), you can still create an HTML file. With Bookmarks Manager open, go to the menu bar and select [Tools Export HTML]. Navigate to where you want to save them. With multiple profiles, I save them each in its profile directory. You can also automate the exporting by setting the preference variable browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to true. This exports every time you terminate SeaMonkey. You can do this with about:config, but I prefer putting user_pref(browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML, true); into user.js because I can then add a comment as to what that means and why I'm doing it. -- David E. Re: Seamonkey Password Manager behaviour
Daniel Dawson wrote: David E. Unfortunately, no. That would require a fundamental redesign of Gecko's password manager, which is certainly outside the scope of Saved Password Editor. How common is this, anyway? Probably not enough for Mozilla to bother with. Other workarounds may be possible, though, through Greasemonkey or something similar, i.e. modify the page so it has a regular login form; I think that should work so long as the server will accept a single request containing both credentials. Sorry to be a bother. It's more common than you think. Financial institutions are using it more and more as an advanced security feature. At two of my banks, I Sign In on one page, then I confirm a SiteKey that I have chosen earlier to insure I'm on a real bank web page, and that's where I enter my Password. After I edited the nsLoginManager.js, SM 2.0.14 saved both, 2.1 doesn't. I'm sure I'll figure out a work around but it worked in an earlier version so perhaps a fundamental redesign is not necessary, just a little tweak? 8-) -- JD.. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
Re: High CPU usage
Paul B. Gallagher wrote: David Wilkinson wrote: Ed Mullen wrote: Good question. I've been seeing this for months now. I believe it has something to do with the mail component in SM. If I run just the browser it's fine. Once I run mail, however, I see these periodic freezes. I've tried turning off automatic mail and news refresh/message download to no avail. If you close all mail windows then the mail part of SeaMonkey does not do anything? I would think so, but I tried this one time and it did not seem to help. I do have a lot of mail accounts and (especially) newsgroup accounts. In my experience, if I close the mail window but leave the browser open, the mail app continues to poll for messages and download them on schedule (unless I change the settings). I still get the little envelope in the tray when incoming messages arrive, and if I then open the mail app, they've already been downloaded and are ready to read. That echoes my experience too. And, while I cannot define a version when this started my sense is that it began with my using 2.1 pre releases. Could be wrong but that's my best guess. -- Ed Mullen http://edmullen.net/ I would travel all my life if loneliness was not the price. - Gordon Lightfoot ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
Re: High CPU usage
Daniel wrote: David Wilkinson wrote: Using SM2 on Windows 7 x64 (and other Windows machines). I have found many discussions of high CPU usage in FireFox and SeaMonkey, but none of the suggestions have ever helped in my situation. The symptom is that SeaMonkey freezes for a few seconds, most noticeably when scrolling a document or clicking a menu (when I expect instant response). The problem is less severe on my new quad core machine (Windows 7 x64) and worse on an XP virtual machine. When this happens on my quad-core machine, Task Manager typically shows high CPU on several cores (usually three), not just one one core as happens when I load a new page. How can I find out what SeaMonkey is doing when this happens? David, to eliminate the possibility that it is the mail that is causing this problem, could you go to Edit-Preferences-Mail Newsgroups and under General Settings , untick Only check for mail, Close the Preferences window, then go Edit-Mail Newsgroup Account Settings and select Server Settings on your email account and in the Server Settings section, untick Check for new messages, Check for new message. and Automatically download.. and close this screen, too. That has always been my normal setting.
