Alan, I know this is 'fluff' but perhaps something on compiz-fusion and demos on how to initiate the new plugins such as Expo and Shift (? if that's the name - the new iTunes album art type thing) . The problem with most screencasts is that they're of such low resolution and so badly encoded that you can hardly see anything happening on screen (not something you're guilty of I know) but a high quality look at Compiz Fusion would get lots of eyeballs... Surely you could use an additional pair of multi-homed Ubuntu boxes with XXX package running between them for sticky load balancing, I know I could in principle but I also know that I've run Cisco (Arrowpoint) loadbalancers for literally YEARS with zero maintenance, and 100% reliability across quite big webhead clusters ... I have that level of confidence in Ubuntu server for running webheads and database clusters... but not for network infrastructure boxes (yet.) Net cost to Dell, a small amount of disk space. Net benefit to Dell, marginal increase in customer choice. Marginal benefit to Ubuntu - huge - endorsement from Dell that our chosen distro is supported by the biggest and the best. (Yes, I know, HP / IBM / RedHat, but heh... Dell has the biggest mindshare for desktops / laptops, I suspect.) Hmm Ok, that fairly well answers my post of a couple of minutes ago. My only comment to the software load balancing, compensation clauses being pushed out of sight for the moment, is that there are a number of clusters out there run by various companies blah blah blah and they seem to use the software with quite high efficiencies. Now these clusters are sized from the small 2 node jobs up to the 125+ ones. In fact the most quoted common concern appears to be that of both hardware failure and reliable backups. Hi, I heard that windows vista has a feature where you can use a jumpdrive as ram. Does anyone know if this is possible to do in ubuntu. That would sure be a easy way to add more memory. Mike. Though I don't know the specifics of vista here, but this wouldn't count as ram, but as swap, which is easily accomplished by mkswap and swapon commands (anyone with knowledge of gui tools to do the same, feel free to step in) for any given storage device. I'm sure you can have a remote swap drive if you really hate yourself that much too. Even though a flash drive might be faster than a normal hard disk, it's not even close to the speed you get from ram, so this isn't really some quick way to add more RAM. Hi, I found a program called devata that seems to work with orca. However, I don't see a way to get to the place to add files. It says table zero files, but there doesn't seem to be a keyboard command to brows files. Has anyone worked with this program at all. If so is there a way to add files using orca. Pessoal, Tenho ubuntu e windows xp na minha máquina. Os dois sistemas vinham funcionando normalmente, entretanto o windows xp repentinamente deixou de carregar. O link para o windows xp aparece normalmente na tela inicial (grub) mas não carrega. Depois que seleciono o windows, aparece inicialmente uma tela como o nome windows xp, mas depois vai para uma tela fica simplesmente vazia (preta). Já tentei resolver esse problema pela configuração do grub, mas ela aparentemente está perfeita. Alguém tem uma idéia do que pode estar acontecendo? Acredito que seu problema seja no XP e não no Grub qdo selecionar o XP na tela do Grup, aperte a tecla F8 várias vezes até aparecer um menu do windows... selecione o 'Modo de Segurança'. Qdo acabar de carregar, faça a 'restauração do sistema' para um dia que seu micro estava bom... provavelmente seu problema será resolvido. Weslei, eu consegui, só que no campo command eu naveguei pelo arquivos e coloque o endereço de inicializaçao do gimp 2.4, no caso: opt/gimp-2.4/bin/gimp-remote-2.4 E ai rodou, abriu o 2.4. Fiz errado? As vezes tem caminho mais fácil. Eu até tentei criar um atalho pelo gedit, mas não deu. Eu criei um para o kompozer e funcionou, mas para o gimp não deu. Amigo, o Samba é usado para compartilhamento entre maquinas Linux x Windows, embora acredito ser possível acessar estes compartilhamentos entre as maquinas Linux se todas tiver o Samba instalado e configurado. Nos anos recentes tive a oportunidade de usar várias distribuições nos Thinkpads, mas nunca recebi um deles com o Linux pré-instalado - e agora a Lenovo parece estar bastante interessada em aumentar as chances de que isto mude no futuro. O Thinkpad - criação da IBM, e hoje uma linha de notebooks da Lenovo - me lembra bastante os fuzis AK-47 que, segundo o folclore, continuam atirando normalmente mesmo após ser enterrados em uma poça de lama e atropelados por um caminhão. Não é um notebook de design atraente, mas resiste bem aos desafios do campo de batalha corporativo. E agora a empresa publicou em um de seus blogs uma enquete para escolher a distribuição que deve ser pré-instaladahttp://lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=98na sua linha, em versões para consumidores finais - de forma similar à adotada pela Dell. Os comentários da notícia estão muito interessantes, na linha ofereça bons drivers e as distribuições virão, mas as empresas raramente podem se dar ao luxo de oferecer múltiplas distribuições como opção de pré-instalação, e precisam optar - mesmo se disponibilizarem bons drivers para todas as outras. Difícil saber. Isso nunca aconteceu comigo (embora, sinceramente, tenha
usado muito pouco o abntex).
Parece ser um bug da classe abntex (que não tem sido desenvolvida nos
últimos meses). Para poder usar com o LYX 1.5 eu tive que remover do
abnt.layout a inclusão de um obsolete.inc e para o título aparecer eu
incluí um ERT com o comando \maketitle{} logo após a inclusão dos
dados que formam a capa. Assim funcionou.

Porém o processo de redimensionar o HD faz um e2fsck -f -y -v /dev/hda1, e esse processo já dura + de 4 horas e nada. Tentei outras dicas, como rodar manualmente com o comando fsck -y /dev/hda1, porém ele entra em loop em um Inode #79xxx e trava. Exemplo classico é conexão xDLS, impossível dar uma aula sobre DNS em uma única mensagem eletrônica. Portanto além de pesquisar sobre o comando, você pode abrir um novo tópico sobre duvida do processo que não tenha entendido :-) Pela primeira vez alguém me indica um guia desse tipo... vou dar uma olhada. Valeu De qualquer forma, permanecem as dúvidas e a questão da didática... O linux parece uma aposta: posso gastar horas estudando para aprender a utilizar e ter um trabalhão, se conseguir, vai ser uma maravilha, mas nada me garante que vou conseguir configurar minha máquina. Eu tive sorte na vida, mas a maioria das pessoas não tem essa liberdade. Já tô filosofando mto.. haha Uma solução para isto, já que não queres estudar sobre sistemas operacionais é comprar uma distribuição e pedir suporte para a empresa. Outra é pagar para um profissional instalar o GNU para você. É, mas o problema é que ele quer usar no Xubuntu, e pra usar o Kafeine no xubuntu tem que instalar trocentas bibliotecas do kde... Hello, I was desperately searching the web this afternoon for a laptop without Windows preinstalled, for less than 600€, for some friends who asked where they could buy this, but also for me. Finally, I was so annoyed by the fact that Dell only offers preinstalled Ubuntu in France, Germany and the UK, that I decided to write an email to Dell Belgium. But then, browsing their site, a PopUp suddenly offered me a live chat with a Dell-expert! I accepted and found myself talking to Pascal_Lissane_Eddine. Быстрое переключен ие сеансов пользовате лей ubuntu 7.04, как ?
Имеется машина с двумя пользователями, оба админы, входят в одну групу. Что сейчас : два активных сеанса- красная кнопочка - смена пользователя - выбор картинкой пользователя- ввод пароля- ввод пароля ЕЩЕ РАЗ ( уже на фоне черного экрана)- рабочий стол. Что хочется : В идеале смена пользователя горячими клавишами. без ввода пароля. ( но при этом ввод пароля для административных задач, да и сам пароль, хотелось бы оставить). Или как вариант максимально уменьшить количество шагов и увеличить скорость смены сеанса. Вопрос - как? Можно новую сессию запускать: gdmflexiserver --no-lock. Тогда текущая сессия не лочится. Salut, oui bien sûr, je pense d'une part les louer a des particuliers en vacances ici (j'haibite dans une région tres touristique surtout l'hiver), mais aussi les vendre. Je pense qu'une bonne config soignée avec tous les softs utiles, multimedia et ludiques dessus devrait convenir a plein de gens. Et a ce prix, vu que l'OS est léger, on a une config tres rapide qui suffira a la majorité des gens... sauf que, pour l'instant, j'en ch... toujours grave pour le son, j'ai essayé tout ce que j'ai trouvé sur les forums pour les paramètres avec les configs Alsa, les modules hnd intel et autre, mais rien ne sort. J'ai testé sous Knoppix, meme topo, il reconnait la carte mais silence radio... Et d'apres ces meme forums, nombreux sont ceux qui ont le meme probleme sans solution. Bonjour Je change assez régulièrement de carte mère et j'ai parfois ce problème de son. À savoir que la carte est ou semble reconnue mais qu'aucun bruit ne sort des HP. J'ai trouvé il y a... longtemps et je ne sais plus où une solution qui a toujours fonctionné chez moi. Ouvrir une console. -- Taper alsamixer Apparait le nom de la carte son et le chipset utilisé. Si le nom correspond à ce qui est embarqué, c'est très bon. En dessous se trouve les curseurs des voix disponibles : Master stéréo, Master mono, PCM, etc. Déjà il faut vérifier que Master _ET_ PCM soient activés. Après, appuyer la flèche curseur droit et maintenir jusqu'à ce que le défilement s'arrête. Il y là 4 curseurs qui s'appellent «NOM_DE_LA_CARTE_SON» DXS. Pour des raisons que la raison ne peut qu'ignorer, parfois alsa met ces curseurs à zéro par défaut. Et là, pas de son. il suffit des les activer avec la touche Flèche_Haut, et la zyk fut. Un autre problème vient de ma webcam qui a un micro incorporé. L'ensemble est reconnue et fonctionne sous Kubuntu, mais parfois, c'est le micro qui est défini comme son par défaut. Voilà...
