[Bug 861443] Re: There is no easy way to change proxy settings in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-27 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
MrCopilot;

We understand your frustration. Ignoring hosts for proxy is something
that tends to be useful, but perhaps it was deemed not as frequently
used as the other functions by upstream developers, which is why it's no
longer exposed in the UI (which is something Ubuntu gets from upstream,
so it applies to all distributions using Gnome3). As you undoubtedly
have noticed, the option is still available via command-line, as such:

gsettings set org.gnome.system.proxy ignore-hosts ['localhost',
'127.0.0.0/8', 'some.other.host']

However, the issue you're describing is something different than not
being able to change proxy settings at all. As such, I'd like to invite
you to file a new, separate bug report that covers *precisely and only*
exposing ignore-hosts in UI. We can then send this report to the
upstream developers at GNOME (alternatively, you can just file the bug
there directly (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)). This
way it will run the best chance of being taken care of by developers.

[Bug 880476] Re: after update to kernel 3.0.0-13 ubuntu 11.10 does not start

2011-10-27 Thread Steve Conklin
ok, I've put the first test kernel up. It may take up to around 7 or 8
tries to find the problem.

The first test kernel for bisection is:
linux-image-3.0.0-13-generic_3.0.0-13.21~spc01lp880476_i386.deb

and is located here:
http://people.canonical.com/~sconklin/lp880476/

The following information will allow other people to reproduce what I'm
doing if they need to:

# bad: [22edb462399950ad60b458e0ccd450a0e037ee79] UBUNTU: Ubuntu-3.0.0-13.21
# good: [e548acb83d07718eb9dcb2c4227f6819fe4d4bad] UBUNTU: Ubuntu-3.0.0-12.20
git bisect start 'Ubuntu-3.0.0-13.21' 'Ubuntu-3.0.0-12.20'

more information here:

[Bug 788274] rsync, ssh: ath5k +AR2413 (more unknowns in the equation)

2011-10-27 Thread gene
I came to the conclusion that this issue is related to ath5k driver with
AR2413 wireless chip communicating with the Netgear WGR614 router via
WPA2 protocol. The wireless chip here does matter, since I have another
notebook (ubuntu 10.10, on 2.6.35* kernel, ath5k with a different chip
though) that does not have the said problems.

Discovered that ssh and rsync also suffer from the throttled traffic
when run wirelessly. In fact, rsyncing both from and to the affected
machine stalls, as well as sshing to it. That only happens while on the
wireless connection. We are talking about the aforementioned Netgear's
LAN in all the cases.

I downloaded a 1 year old 2.6.35 kernel. It seemed to be better,
however, sshing to the machine would also freeze in the middle of the
session.

This is very weird taking good numbers from the connection speed test (
testmy.net ) into account makes it more weird.

Not sure what to do next. My nest suspicion would the combination the
wireless card, router and the WAP2 authentication protocol. I will try
turning the latter off and or trying other ones.

[Bug 828019] Re: Restart not available when suppress_logout_restart_shutdown is set

2011-10-27 Thread stagelll
I completly agree with Adam. This is a major bug for me, and one that
made me go back to 11.04. I'm a dual boot user and I need a clean and
quick access to "restart".

Besides, that's at odds with the very spirit of Linux : all about having
choices.

And it would be great if, for once, Canonical could just for a second
listen to users. To have "restart" is no big deal: and it would make my
Ubunutu experience just greater.

[Bug 882350] Re: qbzr opens giant window that causes Unity/Compiz to hang

2011-10-27 Thread David Coles
Interestingly when I started with metacity, the window was reset to a
sane size and the problem with the "revert" dialog was no longer
visible. I was also having the same issue with qdiff but it "fixed
itself".

I removed ~/.bazaar/qbzr.conf and windows defaulted to a sane size. Even
by setting the window wider 2 or 4 times the width of the display didn't
reproduce it. I guess it's possible it was trying to open some insane
sized window (shame there was nothing unusual in qbzr.conf when I looked
this morning).

[Bug 882710] [NEW] Dual monitors randomly black out, might be linked to switching workspaces

2011-10-27 Thread palewire
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell desktop with a dual use video card that
goes into two monitors. They normally work great and I have no
complaints. When I first upgraded to 11.10, I would occasionally have
both monitors randomly black out, and I'd have to restart the computer
to get them back. Though that problem seemed to go away, and I wrote it
off to package upgrades that fixed a bug.

Then, after upgraded unity and a bunch of other packages today it
started it again. Three times I've had it black out this morning. I
don't know why. Though I often use hotkeys to slide between workspaces,
and one of the blackouts happened during a slide.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Mea culpa here, of course; I'm new at Ubuntu and still learning the

2011-10-27 Thread Lutz
This message may mess up your interaction forms. I solved it by just
killing the loop starting the screensaver, you find it in the process
list when you open another ssh session. No harm done, upgrade continues
as expected

[Bug 882702] [NEW] ibus-tegaki crashes on Ubuntu Oneiric

2011-10-27 Thread dreamon
Public bug reported:

I am using Tegaki with iBus on a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric
(32 bit, US English) on my Samsung Anynet N130 netbook (Intel Atom, 1GB
RAM) running the Xubuntu (XFCE) desktop. I have three input methods
installed: "Chinese - Pinyin", "Japanese - Anthy" and "Other - tegaki".
Tegaki frequently crashes iBus, requiring the user to restart it. This
does not happen when running the same version of ibus-tegaki on Natty,
although I am using GNOME (Classic) on a 64 bit architecture there.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Set cursor to a text box, activate iBus via Ctrl + Space
2. Switch through input methods using Alt + Shift or the iBus tray icon

Expected result: Tegaki's drawing pad should open, allowing me to draw a
character. I should then be able to select another input method, with
Tegaki's drawing pad closing automatically.

What happened instead: When activating Tegaki, iBus crashes. Sometimes
Tegaki actually starts and shows the drawing pad, but then either
Tegaki's drawing pad remains open or iBus crashes when selecting another
input method. Crashes are more frequent when using keyboard shortcuts
(Alt + Shift).

[Bug 879183] Re: mythbackend causes kernel panic and reboots

2011-10-27 Thread Micah Schehl
I reinstalled 11.04 and this issue is still occurring, so at this point,
it seems likely that it is either my power supply or other hardware
issue. It's hopefully just a bad coincidence that the issue started
occurring immediately after the upgrade.

[Bug 881975] Re: Window focus issue on using expo, Alt+Tab and popup window after login

2011-10-27 Thread Phil V
Thanks for checking out that report. To me it seems like there are two
separate issues here. Focusing windows when a workspace is switched, and
your keyring prompt not receiving focus problem. These issues might be
related but I'm not positive. I don't think we should mark this as
duplicate, then, but change this report to only encompass the keyring
prompt not being focused issue, removing everything about switching
workspaces and those windows not being focused. You should certainly
mark yourself as an affected user on bug 876333, though.

In summary, I propose we change the title of this bug to:
"After login, prompts such as the privilege escalation prompt do not receive
focus"

And the body of the report to:
"After login, pop up windows such as the password prompt for privilege
escalation do not receive focus, causing the user to have to click the window
to begin entering their password."
"Exact steps to reproduce:" (please provide these)

If you agree, please go ahead and make these changes.

[Bug 882685] [NEW] lucid linux-firmware lacks ath3k driver update

2011-10-27 Thread Thomas Bushnell, BSG
Public bug reported:

The version of linux-firmware in lucid-updates is 1.34.7.

This lacks an update to the ath3k driver which was released in the
git.kernel.org firmware repo on December 13, 2010. See
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-
firmware.git;a=history;f=ath3k-1.fw;h=63aa9b9ad87d3d918e441d921ada9cad08687ae5;hb=HEAD
for the commit to the upstream repo.

This is necessary to support USB-BT211 devices. We've verified that
failing devices start working when the upstream firmware is dropped in
place of the older one in lucid-updates.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=702375 is the corresponding
bug in RedHat, for example.

Can the lucid-updates version of linux-firmware please be updated to
include this newer firmware?

[Bug 882691] [NEW] Kubuntu can't turn on Wi-Fi on Acer Aspire One AOA101

2011-10-27 Thread lokster
Public bug reported:

The network manager says that wireless networking is off, and when I try to
turn it on from the checkbox it doesn't turn on.
However, if I run "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" and then "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan",
it detects the access points around me (but stays off according to the network
manager...).

[Bug 882610] Re: Suspend Stopped Working After 11.10 Upgrade

2011-10-27 Thread Timothy Mayoh
Can you please test to see if this occurs with the upstream mainline
kernel (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds)? This will
potentially allow additional developers to examine the issue.

Also, please be sure to take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume. If you
can provide any additional information outlined there it would be much
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Timothy

[Bug 870404] Re: When navigating Dash by keyboard, sometimes titles with no function are incorrectly focused

2011-10-27 Thread Matt Sturgeon
Are you sure you've got the latest updates (sudo apt-get update && sudo
apt-get upgrade)?

As I mentioned before there does seem to be some inconsistency, but
however on my machine it does still appear to be behaving as I
described.

Except "Apps Available for Download" no longer focuses it's title (at
least today anyway :-\ )

I don't get how this issue can be so inconsistent across computers and
sessions..

Also sometimes the cursor continues flashing in the searchbox even if I
focus another element
