[Bug 1054045] Re: Firefox crashes when CkeckPoint VPN session expires

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I use a browser-based (Java applet-launched) VPN client, "CheckPoint
SSL Network Extender", to connect to a certain VPN. The server is
configured to time my session out after a certain number of hours.
When I don't log out before then, and come back later, I get a message
"User Authentication Expired"; when I click "OK" or "Cancel" to that,
Firefox crashes and brings up the crash reporter. Sometimes when I come
in after session timeout, it has already crashed. Here's the "Details"
  output from the crash reporter:

[Bug 753537] [NEW] Contact Import interface not intuitive, cannot ignore source column

2011-04-07 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Trying to import some GMail contacts into Thunderbird address book,
GMail has two different CSV export formats ("Google", "Outlook", and a
VCard format; but the import-wizard does not have an option for VCF
files). The import-wizard comes up with the 37 columns that Thunderbird
uses on the left-hand side (I would expect them on the right, since data
is coming into the application). One of those CSV formats has 55
columns; the other has 88. What happened to all my other columns?

Also, every time I click on a column to move it up or down, that
deselects it ... I have to click again to select it again.

Finally, a feature to concatenate multiple fields in the imported
contacts-list into one field in the Thunderbird address book, especially
the "Notes" or "custom 1" field, would be nice. See also bug 600755.

I guess I could work around this by doing the column-shuffling in a
spreadsheet; or if there was a VCF to LDIF converter somewhere, that
might help too.

[Bug 381668] Re: xfig produces illegal PNG file when exporting as PNG

2011-03-31 Thread David Lee Lambert
This doesn't seem to be a problem with Xfig itself; rather with the
"transfig" helper program (a separate install in Ubuntu), which in turn
calls GhostScript as part of the process of producing PNG files.

Somehow it writes two concatenated PNG images to the output file; the
first has the image data, the second one is blank, the same size as the
image. I can't seem to duplicate this behavior by taking a PDF from
another program, converting it to PostScript, and running "gs -q -dSAFER
-sDEVICE=png16m -r80 -g850x1100 -sOutputFile=file.png - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381668

[Bug 729471] [NEW] Feature request: support export to SubViewer format

2011-03-04 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transcriber

(Actually affecting me in version 1.5.1 on Karmick, but apparently
that's the same version as on Maverick.)

YouTube only accepts input in "SubViewer (*.SUB) and SubRip (*.SRT)"
formats, which do not seem to be in the list supported by the "-export"
option.

more information than the other formats that are already supported.

[Bug 544134] [NEW] Windows ME unable to authenticate

2010-03-22 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I recently upgraded an Ubuntu workstation from Gutsy to Jaunty. It was acting
as the printer server, and had some Samba shares exposed. A Windows ME
computer on the same network had a batch file in the "Startup" folder of the
Start Menu that reset the time from this workstation and mapped a share (as
well as some shares from a Debian Etch workstation). The Windows ME
workstation is also configured to print to a Samba-shared printer on the Ubuntu
workstation. Since upgrading, the batch-file gives an error-message trying to
get the time; prompts for the password on the share, and doesn't accept the
user's password; and opening the printer in "Start → Printers..." brings up a
password box, and the user's password is not accepted.

C:>net time \\ubuntu_server

gives the error-message

Error 5: You do not currently have access to this file. The file may be
marked read-only, or it may be part of a shared resource such as a folder, a
named pipe, a queue, or a semaphore. You can use the ATTRIB command to change
the read-only attribute, or try again later when the file may be available.

C:>net use o: \\grendel\opt

causes a password-prompt, and even after entering the correct password
(`smbpasswd` and `passwd` were both used to set the same password for
this user) it gives the same error-message:

The password is invalid for \\GRENDEL\OPT. For more information, contact your
network administrator.
Type the password for \\GRENDEL\OPT:*

Error 5: You do not currently have access to this file. The file may be
marked read-only, or it may be part of a shared resource such as a folder, a
named pipe, a queue, or a semaphore. You can use the ATTRIB command to change
the read-only attribute, or try again later when the file may be available.

Browsing to the printer in "Start → Printers..." brings up a dialog with the
title "Enter Network Password", message "You must supply a password to make
this connection:".

This batch-file used to work fine, against Ubuntu G. "NET TIME" and
"NET USE" work from Windows ME against the Debian Etch workstation I
mentioned. My workaround for now is to do "NET TIME" against Debian
rather than Ubuntu and not mount the "OPT" share. I'll probably either
move the printer or re-export it from the Debian Etch workstation.

I still have this problem. The workaround mentioned above does not
always work reliably; sometimes. However, restarting dbus when gdm is

[Bug 521397] Re: Unable to mount shares from Windows ME

2010-02-19 Thread David Lee Lambert
OK, I found a message on the Samba mailing-list that helped.

http://lists.samba.org/archive/linux-cifs-
client/2007-February/001720.html

Using that, I figured out a work-around:

# mount.cifs //PurpleComputer/DQFILES /purple/dqfiles/ -o
rw,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770,gid=dq,credentials=/root/for-PurpleComputer.cred,ip=192.168.15.6,servernetbiosname=PURPLECOMPUTER
(success)

Having to hard-code the IP address is an annoyance, but in my case it
is in fact a static IP address. If it wasn't, I could put the
following in a script:

mount.cifs //PurpleComputer/DQFILES /purple/dqfiles/ -o
rw,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770,gid=dq,credentials=/root/for-
PurpleComputer.cred,ip=`nmblookup PurpleComputer | grep '<00>' | cut -f
1 -d ' '`,servernetbiosname=PURPLECOMPUTER

[Bug 521397] Re: Unable to mount shares from Windows ME

1st: Yes.

2nd: Tested with a live CD (the install CD).

# smbclient -L //PurpleComputer

# sudo mount //PurpleComputer/DQFILES /purple/dqfiles -t smbfs -o

mount: wrong fs type, bad option ...
# dmesg

CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/ return code = -22

3rd: Windows ME runs some games better than Wine. Also, last time I
tried the scanner we use with that computer with Ubuntu, there were no
drivers for it; although that was a few releases of Ubuntu back... As
stated before, this used to work from the exact same computer except
with an earlier version of Ubuntu; and it currently works from Debian
Etch and Windows XP.

[Bug 521407] [NEW] dbus does not start after reboot

2010-02-13 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

I recently upgraded one Ubuntu box from Gutsy or Hardy to Jaunty. DBus
no longer starts at boot. This has two major symptoms:

* The avahi daemon no longer starts, hence it's not possible to SSH in using a
".local" hostname (bug 519917).
* GDM starts, but the X server doesn't respond to keyboard or mouse input.
Ctrl+Alt+F1 to log in at the console also doesn't do anything.

My workaround so far is to SSH in from another computer (using a fully-
qualified hostname or IP address) and execute "/etc/init.d/dbus start ;
/etc/init.d/gdm restart". That sequence runs fine and solves the
issues, until reboot.

[Bug 521397] [NEW] Unable to mount shares from Windows ME

2010-02-13 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I'm having trouble mounting two directories shared from a Windows ME
computer on the local network. I can mount them fine from Debian Etch
and Windows XP; in the past I've mounted them fine from Ubuntu B, D, G
and H, from Slackware, from earlier versions of Debian and from Windows
Server 2003.

On a computer I recently upgraded to Jaunty, I have the following two
lines in /etc/fstab (after editing in response to a message about
"dmask" and "fmask" being deprecated):

//PurpleComputer/DQFILES  /purple/dqfiles   cifs
rw,auto,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770,gid=dq,noperm,credentials=/root/for-PurpleComputer.cred
   0 3
//PurpleComputer/PROGRAMFILES  /purple/programfiles cifs
rw,auto,file_mode=0444,dir_mode=0555,noperm,credentials=/root/for-PurpleComputer.cred
   0 2

The first share is shared from Windows ME as read-write with a share
password; the second is shared as read-only with no password. "ping
PurpleComputer" and "smbclient -L //PurpleComputer" both work fine.

# mount /purple/programfiles

On another computer I recently performed a fresh install of Intrepid.
Mounting the same share also fails, but with a different error-message:

$ sudo smbmount PurpleComputer\\DQFILES /purple/dqfiles/ -o
uid=davidl,file_mask=0660
mount error: could not find target server. TCP name PurpleComputer/DQFILES not
found
No ip address specified and hostname not found

I know this sounds like bug 235560, but I've checked /etc/nsswitch.conf
and /etc/samba/smb.conf, and they seem to be appropriate. I am able to
mount a SMB share shared by Debian Etch with Jaunty.

[Bug 112309] Re: VNCSERVER SSH Keymap Keyboard jumbled

I've almost worked out a keymap that fixes the keyboard for VNC. To use
it, type e.g.

xmodmap -display :46 vnc-keymap.txt

in an SSH session to the same host (replace 46 by your VNC display number).

[Bug 255734] Re: OO calc adds spurious columns to Office 2003 XML files

2008-08-14 Thread David Lee Lambert
Enabling "tab" as the delimiter has nothing to do with the problem. The
file isn't CSV or tab-separated-variable; it's XML conforming to the
"SpreadsheetML" schema. When I rename it to ".xml" and open it with
OpenOffice, I don't see any option in the interface to enable or
disable "tab" as a delimiter.

One difference I notice between the BIRT-produced file and a file re-
saved from Excel is that BIRT puts whitespace between the and
tags. OOo produces a file without any whitespace at all.
However, whitespace there shouldn't matter; Excel doesn't care about
it.

[Bug 255734] [NEW] OO calc adds spurious columns to Office 2003 XML files

2008-08-07 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I'm attaching an Office 2003 XML file created by the BIRT "save as XLS"
feature. When I open it in OpenOffice, extra blank columns show up
between the data-columns (that is, data is in columns B,D and F), and
most of the rows are two lines high because of wrapping. When I open it
in Excel 2003, the data-columns are B, C and D, and most of the rows are
one line high.

If I open the file in Excel and save it again, and then open that file
with OpenOffice, the column-spacing looks just like in Excel.

[Bug 192626] [NEW] guest fs corruption during heavy I/O in guest

2008-02-17 Thread David Lee Lambert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu

I've been trying to install Gentoo in a qemu VM running under Ubuntu
Feisty. Whenever I get to the point of actually copying a large number
of files to the guest root partition, I get filesystem corruption.

I've tried booting from the Gentoo 2006.01 CD, which has an old 2.6
kernel. I can partition and format /dev/hda in the guest (a 5G sparse
raw image-file on an ext2 filesystem with 4k clusters), but when I untar
the stage3 archive I get disk errors somewhere, and the partition is
remounted read-only.

The first time I saw this, I was using reiserfs as the guest filesystem.
I got a kernel oops with reiserfs. I tried using ext2fs instead, and
still got corruption and a remount read-only (but no oops).

I've also tried booting from a DSL ISO image that uses a 2.4.31 kernel,
creating partitions, formatting them, and untarring the same stage3
archive. Once again, I get corruption and a remount read-only. I see
messages like the following in the kernel log:

attempt to access beyond end of device
03:03: rw=1, want=302013672, limit=4731142

If I mount the partition using loopback on the host and untar the
archive there, I can boot from a rescue CD and chroot to it. However,
when I do something else involving a lot of write I/O (like emerge
--sync), I get corruption again.

** Affects: qemu (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 103599] Re: Crash when linking OpenOffice.org Base with Postgresql 8.2 database via JDBC

2007-08-24 Thread David Lee Lambert
I also have this problem. I'm using the Microsoft SQL Server JDBC
driver to connect to SQL 2000 and SQL 2005. I can create a query in the
"SQL view" and run it to get data. However, double-clicking on a table
to open it or clicking "Use Wizard to Create a Query..." crashes
OpenOffice.

Is there a chance that the fix for this bug could be applied to Feisty?

[Bug 106864] Re: Feisty boot fail "can't access tty" IDE SATA problem

2007-06-07 Thread David Lee Lambert
I guess I don't have this bug. The CD-ROM is still accessible; it's
just "/dev/scd0" now.

[Bug 106864] Re: Feisty boot fail "can't access tty" IDE SATA problem

2007-06-04 Thread David Lee Lambert
I'm not sure if this is related; but I can't access the CD-ROM drive on
an Ubuntu system after upgrading from Kubuntu/Breezy to Feisty. When I
try to do "mount /cdrom", I get the error-message

mount: /dev/hda is not a valid block device

The computer is a Dell system with an IDE CD-ROM and two SATA hard-
drives, which work fine. Here's the relevant output from "lspci":

00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE Controller
(rev 01)
00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA
Storage Controller IDE (rev 01)

I've tried "modprobe piix" to no avail; here's the "dmesg" output:

[3856014.295292] ide0: I/O resource 0x3F6-0x3F6 not free.
[3856014.295296] ide0: ports already in use, skipping probe

[Bug 30094] Re: vc-svn.el is a no-op

2007-03-30 Thread David Lee Lambert
I'm pretty sure this is what bit me when upgrading from Breezy to Etch.
There was a reference to "psvn.el" in ~/.emacs, and Emacs couldn't load
a file from the command-line or save any file until I installed a good
"vc-svn.el". The only clue was a message in the minibuffer, something
like "Couldn't load vc-svn".
