[Bug 405388] Re: virt-manager cannot create image file
After playing around with virtual manager. I finally understood what is the problem. I am writing it down for the next one with the same problem. As defined here: http://libvirt.org/drvqemu.html The libvirt QEMU driver is a multi-instance driver, providing a single system wide privileged driver (the "system" instance), and per-user unprivileged drivers (the "session" instance). The of the driver protocol is "qemu". Some example conection URIs for the libvirt driver are: qemu:///session, qemu:///system What is happening is that virtual manager lists only qemu://session (the user instance of driver) This instance "session" does not have privileges to write to system pool, it has only the privileges of the user. If someone is trying to create a new virtual disk from the "qemu://session" in the system pool, it will not work. If you are local admin of libvirt (by default all local admins are libvirtd admins too) you can add manage the system instance by navigating file->add connection and select hypervision QEMU/KVM and connection local. This will add one more connection that will be named localhost(System). This connection is priviliged you can even edit networks, create machines in the main pool and AFAIK vms that reside in system instance can be configured to auto-start too. This bug seems invalid, but there is a bug that the interface is not helping new-comer. A bug could be considered that the first time you run virtual-manager, it runs with "session" connection but the only available pool is from "system" -- virt-manager cannot create image file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405388 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 176589] Re: compiz randomly freezes X
I think compiz is multi-threaded... so you have to take backtrace from all threads. "info stack" works for current selected thread only. With "info stack" you can enumerate all the running threads of the application that you debug. if you execute inside gdb "info stack" you ll something like this in case that it has 4 threads running.: (gdb) info thread 4 Thread 0xb6c65b90 (LWP 12520) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall () 3 Thread 0xb7466b90 (LWP 12519) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall () 2 Thread 0xb7c67b90 (LWP 12518) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall () * 1 Thread 0xb7c68940 (LWP 12510) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall () The * shows which is the active. "info stack" will show the stack trace only from the active thread. By executing "thread " you make another thread active. e.g. "thread 3" will make active the 3rd thread from the list you saw. Running again "info stack" you ll get the stacktrace from thread 3 now. Finally if you manage to lock it up again, check if it has multiple threads running and if they are, take stack trace from all of them. This may be the reason you get different stack traces, you traces from different threads, although the second seems corruptes as it starts from 0x. Public bug reported: At the new time-applet under clock of gnome, if I add "thessaloniki" as a location, it sets the timezone to "Europe/Skopje" which is not correct! For those who don't know where is thessaloniki here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki is a greek city and has the same timezone as all the cities in greece, while Europe/Skopje is not the same... The misunderstanding may come from the "makedonia" under the name of Thessaloniki in the list of locations. I can confirm exactly the same behaviour with ubuntu gutsy 7.10 on a Fujitsu-siemens 1840w. I am attaching my syslog.txt grabbed with yareg from windows installation after the crash. I think you should try different values of MTU around and below 1500, also open an Ethereal (wireshark? can't remember its new name) and try to check what is going on with your packets. As this is a computer lab and you probably must fix it, (I don't know if this NIC is so badly designed or is so badly supported by linux drivers), in case you don't manage to fix it you could always buy some cheap network cards around 8-12 euros each, which have a common chip and well supported.
