[Bug 158943] gusty - error
Public bug reported: I found 2 problems that come from oldest versions of ubuntu: 1 - The sound mixer is poorly configured by default. This happened to me in earlier versions as well. While I can hear the sounds, rather than climb or turn down the volume teacher does not affect reproduction. Besides I hear the sound test. 2 - The entry of the microphone is not working well. This occurs from the old versions of ubuntu. It behaves like a filter achieved record sounds more serious while the treble is atenuedos. That is not happening with me windows so the error is drivers. [Bug 158949] Windows and panel objects are not moved the same way
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Background: I've got a 1-line, 4-column panel setup, running compiz, on Gutsy. How to reproduce: - Open a new window. - Move the window so that part of it is outside the right edge of the desktop. - right-click the window handle or panel object (still in workspace 1), and click Move to Workspace Right. Now, the window is moved one workspace right, but the panel object (that is, the thing at the bottom of the screen) is moved /two/ panels to the right. I'll test this without compiz later. [Bug 119308] Re: Gutsy shutdown doesn't
Not sure this is the same bug but : Recent desktop system (AMD Sempron, NVidia chipset) which was shutting down perfectly with Feisty now sporadically hangs on shutdown after upgrade to Gutsy (kernel 2.6.22-14-generic). Not easy for me to be very specific, the machine is 400 miles away, it's a friend's machine which I administer from remote using SSH and of course I have no access to it when hanged on shutdown... According to the reports I got from her, machine stays forever on shutdown splash screen and nothing else happens. I have remotely deactivated the splash screen in grub's menu.lst to see if it can help or check last system messages from now on. Syslog doesn't show anything special after such a hang. She reported to me having had some filesystem errors reported at mount time after a forced reboot in such situation, so that's possible that hanging happens before the system is actually completely down. Machine uses the NVIdia proprietary X11 driver as well as ndiswrapper + sis163u driver for a Wi-Fi USB thing and I was suspecting one of them to be the cause of the issue - I've seen that losing the Wi-Fi connection sometimes hangs the system in Gutsy where it wouldn't happen in Feisty, although the Windows driver used by ndiswrapper is the same, so I was suspecting something weird could happen when shutting down networking. -- Gutsy shutdown doesn't https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 158944] Upgrade tool (7.04 to 7.10) sets login keyboard layout to QWERTY US
Public bug reported: An upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 sets the keyboard layout of the login screen to QWERTY US. Users with passwords containing keys that are different in this layout will not be able to log in. Example: A QWERTZ DE user with a Z in his password will need to type Y instead at the login screen. But he does not know that. Even if one account can login, it seems not possible to switch the login screens config without manually editing config files. Changing passwords of the accounts will only help, if users know the login layout and its differences to the one they get after the login and choose the keys wisely... I cannot provide you with files, because the users wanted me to erase the whole system, install 7.10, recreate their accounts and restore their home directories from the backups. This workaround has solved the problem for me, but will not for people without backups... and I know there are some out there. [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
I hope I'm not repeating previous comments, but I think this bug would be best addressed if the distros were consolidated down to specific Linux OS packages, such as Linux Enterprise, Linux Studio and Linux Home/Office (or Linterprise, LinStudio and LinHoff). I believe that whilst the community continues to splinter off like this, the result will be slower progress. Fewer companies and individuals really trust an OS which consists of dozens of competing factions, IMHO. If all the incredible mental resources around the world (that are currently almost competing on various distros), were to focus on such specific platforms, would this not be sufficient to topple the behemoth? Whilst competition may encourage new ideas, it hampers the overall improvement. With visionary architects like Torvalds, Shuttleworth and co. overseeing the direction of everyone's work, I believe Linux would continue to evolve into the leading OS, whilst retaining the benefits of OSS. -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It's marked as confirmed for two versions of the linux source, but unless someone packports the change into a patch (?), then there wont be a fix on any linux source version before 2.6.23. I installed this .deb via gdebi. I see blinking cursor at the very top left corner of Tilda's window, but I can't enter any thing. When I starting to type, cursor stops blinking, but entered letters doesn't appears. So at this point Tilda is unusable... I fix that by setting „Run custom command instead of shell“ to my shell. Also, „Always on Top“ doesn't work correctly too. Currently I use compiz, so it is possible that „Always on Top“ problem is related to compiz. When I press a key to show up Tilda window, it pulls down below currently active window, but if I click on Tilda window with mouse, then it stays on top as needed... [Bug 132800] Re: Command line automatically included in bug report, violating user's privacy
I definitely agree . quote A proper fix for this should show a preview of all the debugging information being submitted. The fix would allow the user to exclude any fields that can violate her privacy before submitting her bug report via the net. /quote well, showing to an common end user, all debugging information can be really scary. But we need to analyze and to distinguish type of informations that could touch to the user privacy , then ALWAYS ask him if he wanted to modify the informations (concealing them for instance) but he needs to be aware that in some case the exact information is mandatory to investigate. But we shouldn't allow complete removal of the information (just modification). in some case , private informations are embedded in the stack Trace. Those cases are really difficult to address. Re: [Bug 138793] Re: no warning about decoy conf files
Martin, Having just run this again, I can report that the conf files are deposited in the data directory when you run initdb. Also, for the postgresql server to start, I must copy server.crt, server.key and root.crt from /var/lib/postgresql/8.1/main to the data directory, and change the owner of those files to postgres. Otherwise, no go. dpkg -l 'postgres*' | grep ^ii I get postgresql-8.1, postgresql-client-8.1, postgresql-common, and postgresql-client-common. The first two are version 8.1.9-0ubuntu0.6.06. lsb_release -d Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS It does not happen on Ubuntu Feisty/Gutsy and Debian Etch/unstable. For a database sever, I think most real database administrators would choose a long term support version over unstable! Rick --- Martin Pitt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Rick, Rick Graves [2007-10-24 3:34 -]: Part of my problem was the conf files were not just in /etc/postgresql, but in /etc/postgresql/8.1/main This is because we support multiple versions in parallel, and also multiple clusters (instances) of one version in parallel. [Bug 158966] [Feisty]Openoffice writer freezes when opening a file
Public bug reported: The following problem occured on a Feisty i386 machine with all updates until Oct. 30th: When I tried to open an Openoffice Writer file from my desktop clicking on it, OO opened it, but then froze: I still could see the content of the file, but scrolling, clicking or performing any action did not work. I only could minimize the window, if I closed it, I had to Force Quit. Running ooffice from the console 'ooffice file.odt', most files were opened and I could use them. But still with some of them, writer froze. I could also open most files by opening it from the file = open dialogue. Running ooffice from the console freezing didn't give an error. This started with an update maybe 2 months ago, uninstalling and reinstalling openoffice did not solve the problem, it was present for all users of this machine. But after deleting the .openoffice.org2 directory in the home directories the problem didn't occur any more. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Feisty]Openoffice writer freezes when opening a file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158966 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
