[Bug 117640] Re: VLC plugin crashes browser Firefox
I confirm this for mozilla-plugin-vlc on intrepid. Firefox plays once a WAV as sound embed. The second time a WAV should be played, it crashes. Removing mozilla-plugin-vlc solves the issue. Then the totem plugin is used which works fine. => it's a vlc issue. -- VLC plugin crashes browser Firefox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 94130] Re: HTTPS over proxy fails
maybe I could provide some piece of "do not reinvent the wheel". The same problem existed in perl LWP 8 years ago. Implementation was simple but yielded another supplemental problem: as soon as the proxy needs a user/password authentication there is some more code needed. So dear python folks, look into LWP and port that to urllib2 On the other hand I wonder why apport doesn't just use wget or curl, which both work fine. Fear of code injection? Well there are cookbooks out there how to pass parameters to scripts without fear of executing the parameters. still not fixed, intrepid 8.10 with all patches. I wonder if such an important feature is broken because of bad urllib, apport should have been changed since a long time to an alternative. [Bug 141265] Re: [gutsy] gnome login in to a black screen

Then I took the harddisk with the /home from another 7.04 install and tried to login to those users (after updating /etc/passwd of course). I first get a popup about the X keyboard not being the gnome keyboard. I clicked "use X keyboard" and then I stay on blank brown screen with the mouse pointer. [Bug 141265] Re: [gutsy] gnome login in to a blank screen
what I did to make it work: move the home dir somewhere else and create a completely empty one with the same user and mode then login. it works. logout again. move everything except dot files to the working homedir. also move those dotfiles you know have nothing to do with gnome, like .mozilla etc... This means you will have to reconfigure all your nice panels. login still works. you can now do try and error: move other files, login again. But I would not try the .gnome* and similar. I did not do those trials so I don't know in the end which files contained the problem. -- [gutsy] gnome login in to a black screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141265 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 946696] [NEW] ICE pakcer different from SNDH format
Public bug reported: the audio format for "SNDH Atari ST music" is checked by the string "ICE!" But ICE is a file packer on the AtariST platform which can pack any data. If you unpack the ICE format, you get the real SNDH file which can be identified with 12 stringSNDH uncompressed atari SNDH music file If you want to keep the ICE! definition to say it's SNDH that's fine, but please add SNDH uncompressed as I showed above. One sugestions would be to add this, which works in 62% of cases for compressed SNDH: 0 string ICE! atari ICE packed data >14 search/40 NDH SNDH music file >14 search/40 TITLSNDH music file The second search is needed because ICE sometimes packes the NDH string too well, but it still shows the TITL tag :-) The rest 28% of files I found are very probably not in a proper SNDH format. They are just compatible with the player but lack a proper header. Others are packed *twice* with the ICE packer. For this I will make a bug report to the maintainer of the SNDH files archive. ** Affects: file (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946696 Title: ICE pakcer different from SNDH format To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file/+bug/946696/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 304574] [NEW] package nagios2-common 2.11-1ubuntu1.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nagios2 I can't tell if it's a new bug. I have spent a lot of time going through the various bugs. I upgraded to 8.04, used synaptic to install nagios. It failed to configure and start. Once I started to investigate I found a "working" Nagios 1.4 (my apache server could display the page). I tried to uninstall nagios and had to do all sorts of things listed in the various bugs as well as manually remove some directories. So if I understand correctly, many ATI chipsets will no longer be supported by the fglrx driver under Ununtu and some other distributions of Linux. No atempt will be made by AMD to maintain support for even relatively recent chipsets and using the fglrx driver is really just gambling. This means Ubnuntu users need to switch to NVIDIA cards. [Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic
Mathais, I do not mean in any way to disparage anyone's efforts in writing drivers for graphics cards. My comment was simply an attempt to summarize the situation with respect to getting a graphics card to work under X based on what I read in the bug reports. I upgraded from an ATI 9600 to an ATI 2400 HD and from a one Viewsonic monitor to a newer Viewsonic monitor. I finally got the vesa driver to work yesterday but still have no 3D acceleration. I started with Linux (Slackware) around 1993. Getting X to work has always been a pain. In spite of much progress in auto detecting cards, monitors etc, I seem to always have a combination of hardware and software that requires hours of effort to make X work and it has recently been getting worse instead of better. I have an ASUS motherboard a Viewsonic monitor and ATI graphics cards, hardly no name manufacturers. Lately, none of the live Linux distributions I've tried work on any of my computers (two desktops, Acer and Compaq laptops and an Apple Macbook Pro running Parallels). In each case the issue is X. -- fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314600 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 260001] Re: ubiquity crashed with InstallStepError in configure_bootloader()
I fixed the problem by running grub-install. For some reason the disk order was different than in previous versions of the installer. Grub tried to install to hd0. It should have been the third scsi drive but I didn't know if there was a chroot involved so it took a while to figure out how to correct it. When I tried to change to hd2 it still failed. Only when I manually did a grub-install to /dev/sdc did it work correctly. This disk /dev/sdc with root on /dev/sdc1 becomes /dev/sda when I boot normally. Nothing has changed on my system since at least three versions ago of Ubuntu and perhaps more. This is the first time that writing to the MBR has been a problem. I was a bit rusty on GRUB since it's been a while since I had any problems. The error that GRUB could not write to the MBR and /boot was due to trying to write to an external USB drive. Since this failure is at the last step would it make sense for the installer to check that it can write to the MBR (or wherever) before spending several hours installing only to fail at the end? The system was installed on the correct drive, only the GRUB stuff was misdirected. -- ubiquity crashed with InstallStepError in configure_bootloader() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 304574] Re: package nagios2-common 2.11-1ubuntu1.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Andreas, I have had intermittent problems with file system corruption for the past 4 or 5 years. This has happened with SuSE, Debian and earlier versions of Ubuntu. The problem goes away and I thought it was gone for good this time but it reappeared with the previous version of Ubuntu. I am now on 8.10. and no problems so far. I think, in hindsight, that the Nagios problem was related to this creeping root file system corruption. It became so bad I could not recover and had to do a new install (and upgrade to 8.10). I did a complete uninstall of Nagios (on Hardy Heron) and a fresh install and it worked fine. I had to manually remove some files as I had tried uninstall and re-install several times. At this time I think it is best to close this bug as unrelated to Nagios. The symptoms I have appear as if my hard drive were failing but the drives always test good and I've had multiple drives over the years. I have an all SCSI system. I tried to identify the problem but have been unable to. If you have ever heard of a similar problem of creeping corruption eventually requiring an fsck on nearly every reboot, I'd appreciate any guidance you could give. Yes, the bug is still present with Ubuntu 8.10 and Nautilus 2.24.1 / gvfs 1.0.2-0ubuntu2, and it's easy to reproduce. If you have a ssh access to a server with a ftpd (Debian's proftpd 1.3.1-17 in my case), you can try these commands : mkdir " test1" <= with a space at the beginning mkdir -p "test2/.directory with a dot" <= with a dot at the beginning Now, connect you to the ftpd with nautilus and try to delete these two directories. [Bug 403462] Re: update keeps crashing
Hello, Thank you for reporting this bug. However, this doesn't looks like a bug to me : The update fails because there is no free space, and the update applet tells you so and gives you advice on how to free some space. It looks like to me that it's the normal behaviour. I'm marking the bug as invalid. If you feel the behaviour could be improved, feel free to re-open it. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Invalid -- update keeps crashing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403462 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154418] The repository version is much slower than the website one
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: fretsonfire The FretsOnFire version installed from the repos is really slow, nearly unplayable, and doesn't have the rights fonts, whereas the version downloader from fretsonfire.sf.net is fast and has no problems.
