[Bug 552577] Re: Empathy Calls bring up an answer/reject dialog that steel focus and causes users to reject calls accidentally (focus stealing)

2010-03-31 Thread Brian Curtis
I think the reason that the functionality of stealing focus was made for
this was because there were a lot of people who were missing calls and
they complained. I think that rejecting the calls accidentally is a
much better thing than missing them all together. Maybe adding
something to the indicator-applet when a call was missed, and getting
rid of the functionality would be a viable middle ground for now?

Just opinions of course.

[Bug 257190] Re: Setting status to 'Hidden' changes status to 'Busy' instead

2010-03-16 Thread Brian Curtis
Facebook and GTalk don't have an invisible status (in their actual chat
programs). AIM doesn't have a busy state IIRC. It may be important to
list the statuses that are natively supported and place it on a wiki or
something along those lines and have it for future reference. IDK where
on the Ubuntu wiki we would put such a table though.

To the reporter: please when you do a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade make
sure that there are no packages that are going to be removed that
shouldn't be. If you question any of the packages that may be removed
in that procedure please post them here and I can help you to continue.

[Bug 528489] Re: Send file doesn't work

2010-03-07 Thread Brian Curtis
Sebastian. Your comments are appreciated, and you have every right to
feel the way that you do. There IMO will always be the debate that
pidgin is better than empathy and vice versa, and theres nothing wrong
with that as the idea spawned from a lot of those debates make their way
into both programs. Thankfully pidgin will still be available to
download in future Ubuntu releases, and you are welcome to use that
instead.

If you really want the in-scoop on a lot of these issues then you can go
to #empathy in gimpnet IRC or #telepathy in freenode IRC.

In the case of this bug report, there are soo many protocols that there
are to make a file transfer for, and its a completely new framework,
that it will take time to get them all. I welcome you to check out
http://bugzilla.gnome.org and search empathy bugs, as well as
http;//bugs.freedesktop.org to check out telepathy-* bugs to participate
actively upstream.

If you want I can turn this into a wishlist bug, requesting the feature.
But please don't expect much action once that happens, as I dont' know
when this will get more attention.

[Bug 528651] Re: Empathy does not import Facebook Chat's Other Friends list into a group

2010-02-26 Thread Brian Curtis
Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu a better place.
Unfortunately this is completely out of the hands of empathy and
telepathy as Facebook controls whats sent to empathy. I have personally
addressed this with empathy developers, and the only workaround is to
move all contacts into a list you create. Call it Facebook and on
empathy you will then have a group called Facebook.

[Bug 526593] Re: Jabber messages are silently dropped in empathy

2010-02-25 Thread Brian Curtis
@Scott Balneaves : since people are using empathy in ubuntu it's the
default action of ubuntu reports to come here. 80% of the time they
will be issues that are not related to something that we've done here in
Ubuntu but something thats happened with the upstream code. It's not
hard to report bugs upstream, and there are times in which it IS the
fault of Ubuntu, and therefore having the report here is appropriate.

Thank you for your concern.

[Bug 526146] Re: pidgin won't connect to AIM due to error Received unexpected response from http://api.oscar.aol.com/aim/startOSCARSession: useTLS=1 is not allowed for non secure requests.

2010-02-22 Thread Brian Curtis
further analysis. use SSL was enabled by default in pidgin and
unchecking the box for use SSL allows pidgin to work. I wonder if
empathy not being able to login to AIM is because it's using SSL by
default

There's no way I can see changing it in the settings provided by empathy

Pidgin job can be invalidated (and I will do so)

[Bug 525189] Re: Empathy notification without icon

2010-02-21 Thread Brian Curtis
Omer: it's best to explain all your actions in bug reports (even if its
blatantly obvious). In this case it would be best to see if the OP
wanted a default icon when there wasn't one present on his/her buddy
list. If this is the case then make sure it gets upstream (pending a
search for duplicates). If this is a problem with notifications, move
it to notify-osd.
