I will look into the log of the main router (AVM) and the repeater (also
AVM) the next time the problem appears and will post it here.

I've heard of problems with Mesh systems. Most residential routers have
very poor logging, but it would be nice to know if it is even trying to
setup a WPA handshake.

It is 5m away from a Mesh-repeater, so I switched first yesterday to

Thank you for the help so far!

OK, that's what I was referring to as 'the former' - it's quite doable.
The Pi Zero won't make for the snappiest server, but it's quite usable.
With LMS running on the Pi zero you won't need it running on your laptop
as well.

Regarding the Samba share that isn't working yet, it's all there in
Jeff's detailed post - just make sure you didn't miss a step.

For encouragement, I have a Pi 3A+ doing more or less what you're aiming
for. I don't have an attached screen, but the LMS and (a couple of)
Squeezelite player(s) run on the 3A+ (one for the 3.5mm jack, and one
for a bluetooth speaker). I also have the 3A+ set up as an access point
(using the options in pCP), so that other players (e.g. Boom, Radio) can
be served by its LMS (and then I also have Philippe's AirPlay bridge).
Music is on a third partition of the MicroSD card, and it's all
controlled via the web interface on my laptop or via iPeng on my phone.

So a stand-alone player needs only to run Squeezelite. LMS can run on
another device on your network, such as your laptop. And in this
scenario, there's no need for the music files to be located on the
Raspberry Pi - they simply need to be on a device that LMS on your
laptop can see. Such a setup will only work when the RPi is connected
to your home network - you won't be able to take this device outside
your house, as you could with an iPod, because it won't be able to see
LMS.

That's what I was referring to as 'the latter', but I'm still not
convinced that that's what you're aiming for. If you want a device that
works outside your home network it'll need to run LMS on the RPi, and
then the music files will indeed need to be stored on a device that's
plugged into the RPi.

Agreed - a very detailed response, above and beyond.

Note that one of the early steps is to install LMS, so this assumes that
you want to create a stand-alone server+player, i.e. a device that can
operate independently of your home network.

The latter is correct, I'm trying to build a standalone player. Think a
"PiCorePod", like an iPod, but with newer and more up to date DAC
hardware, audio codecs, capabilities, storage space and possible
customization. I'm attempting to build it on a Pi Zero with the Iqaudio
DAC hat and headphone amp daughter board. The display is the Waveshare
4.3 inch touchscreen. It would be powered by the Adafruit power module
with a 2500 mAh LiPo battery as a UPS, which can run on battery or line
in and the battery gets automatically charged when plugged into wall
power.

I like picoreplayer because it is very slim, boots quickly and will do
only what I need, and that's to be a music player.

I got a 512gb SD Micro card from B&H Photo and Video for $96. I think
they still have them at that price. The size seems to check out in
Windows (so it's not likely a fake).

I'm reading through Jeff's *amazingly* detailed instructions (THANKS,
Jeff!). I want to do this all very slowly and carefully. I'll report
back with the results.

How far away is pCP from the router?

I'd be inclined to try a USB wifi adaptor to see if its more reliable.

The alternative is to use Inguz EQ/DRC.

Having said that, if the intention is to implement Digital Room
Correction (which Inguz can certainly perform) there is a considerable
learning curve in room measurement techniques, the design of a target
response and the creation of the impulse filters (I use Acourate for
these), all before you get to using them with Inguz.

If interested, I've collated all the information and files for Inguz in

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2019-05-21 Thread Blu3IcE

I've just recently seen that the HifiBerry DAC+ is supporting REW
profiles for its DAC.
Currently I do not own one but that would be a worthy update if
piCorePlayer would support this.
I understood that the only thing missing on the pCP are the required
DSPTOOLS.
Is there any way for this to be included in the pCP image or as add-on
somehow?
I would greatly appreciate it!

Background: Ever since I heard how the sound improves by using such
custom REW profiles with a DSP at a friends setup I'm searching for a
solution to realize this. The HifiBerry DAC+ would be an affordable
option that does not affect my LMS servers performance.

I did not finally choose to buy a DSP+ ! ;) but the solution is still
use raspbian to upload and then insert piCore SD card the DSP parameters
are on non volatile storage.

This is fairly easy to do but yes it would be nice if the devs could
include the dsp tools
