Re: VO issue while using wired earphones

I only have used the wired Apple earpods, but so far, VoiceOver is being sent
to both earpods. I didn't even know there was a setting to send VoiceOver to
one channel only, I will go look for it. I am using an IPhone 6.

Subject: VO issue while using wired earphones

Hello all,
I have upgraded to IOS 10 on my 6 S plus phone. I noticed that when I plug in
my wired earphones, I only get sound from VO out of one ear. However, if I
listen to music or podcasts, I get volumes from both ears. I don’t recall
resetting any settings that might have caused the problem. If anyone has an
answer, it would be greatly appreciated. I did not have this problem before
upgrading.

Hi, have you guys seen the PayPal Apple Music promotion that gets you two

the three months that are offered free to new subscribers, or if the three
months are waived once you sign up for something like this? Thanks in

Re: New Learning Ally App

2016-09-22 Thread Hope Paulos
The major feature that the old app does not have is the ability to download
books into the app… You would have to physically go to the computer, put them
on your bookshelf, and then you could download them with the older app. Now,
you can use the phone and search the bookshelf, put them on there, and
download them all with one device. I have not played with the speed or anything
like that…

RE: using siri to locate and call places

2016-09-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This has happened to me from time to time, SIRI sometimes just goes bananas,
but you may want to try and turn SIRI off and then back on. After I updated to
the current iOS 10 release SIRI often did completely stupid stuff. For example,
I would ask SIRI to call somebody in my contact list. SIRI wold ask me if I
wanted to call their work or mobile number. I would say "Mobile" and SIRI would
say Calling so and so mobile, then a moment later it would say "Sorry, I can
find so and so in your contacts" or "Sorry, I can't make that call for you". In
other words it found the person and asked if I wanted to call their mobile or
work and then said it couldn't find that person. After I turned SIRI off and
back on it all seems to work much better (at least so far) and I tried it
successfully with a few people where before I always said it couldn't make that
call for me.

Hello Jim,

I cannot reproduce your findings.

On four various iPhones, not including iPhone 7, Siri functions normally in iOS
10 with VoiceOver enabled.

I tested all 4 phones using the exact same phrase as described in your original
post, and in each instance, Siri dialed the number and the call was connected,
successfully.

I am having a problem with siri under ios 10

Here is what I am doing and the result

Say Siri find office max
Siri responds with I found office max on county road 1 and asked do you want
that one?
At the beep to talk I says yes
Siri responds I can get directions or call At the beep to talk I say "call"

Then siri comes back with who do you want to call.

This happens with anything I try using the scenario above.

This used to work great under ios 9.
Any one have a solution or experiencing the same problem?

Thanks

How do you get the station you're listening to stick in FM mode on the Woopower speaker?

2016-09-22 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I just got my Woopower speaker, and it seems straightforward, except for one
thing. How do I select a specific station in FM mode? I understand that while
the speaker is in FM mode, pressing the mode button starts scanning. My unit
briefly stops on a station, then goes on scanning. Now for the question. If I
find a station that I want to hear, how do I stop scanning on it? I thought
hitting the mode button would stop scanning, but it jumps back a station or so.
How does FM work on this crazy thing? Other than that, I really like the
device. I just have to figure out how to answer a call. I know I'm doing
something incorrectly, so I'll figure it out soon enough. In any case, this
device will work great in conjunction with Nearby Explorer, which is what I
wanted it for.

Have a blessed day, and don't work too hard.

RE: Watch OS 3.0 - Viration time!

2016-09-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I was just in Vancouver and stopped by an Apple Store to check out the Apple
Watch Series 2. The time feedback after a double or triple tap is very prompt,
I would say maybe a second or less. It's not instant as in where it starts
vibrating after the second or third tap, but very responsive. I was very
impressed with the new Apple Watch and have a feeling that I am going to get
one in the next couple of months. I am a bit undecided between the Sport or
Stainless version. I like the weight of the Sport since I did find the
stainless version felt quite heavy, but don't like the fact it doesn't have
Sapphire glass. Of course here in Canada there is also a $210 price difference
between the starting price of the Sport which starts at $489 for the 38mm model
and the stainless which starts at $699 for the same size, I would definitely
want the 42mm which in stainless starts here at $779 and then of course I like
the higher-end bands, but I think you can now find many of them from third
parties for much less than what Apple charges.

Sieghard

Yeah, I have found the double tap and triple tap to be a little slow on the
first generation Apple Watch. It will be interesting to see if that time speeds
up with the new watch. I should have mine in a couple of weeks. Here is to
hoping…

The major feature that the old app does not have is the ability to download
books into the app… You would have to physically go to the computer, put them
on your bookshelf, and then you could download them with the older app. Now,
you can use the phone and search the bookshelf, put them on there, and
download them all with one device. I have not played with the speed or anything
like that…

This is not an update, it is a completely new app, which can be on your device,
along with the old one. I wonder what others, who have tried it, think of the
new app? So far, I am somewhat ho hum about it. Perhaps it is a bit easier to
use than the old one, but I don't understand what it gives me that I didn't
already have. The old one will read the EText books, also, as will the new one.
Plus, I don't think the new app sounds as good as the old one, and I can speed
up the old one to a faster rate. For now, I will keep both of them on my iPhone
and continue to compare them. Thanks for any opinions.

RE: Apple news

Hello Regina,

I, and many others, that I know of, use the native Apple News app, regularly.

At this point, I suggest that you call the Apple accessibility support phone
number at:

877-204-3930.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

even took out the app and reloaded it. I can see Apple News online, but no dice

app or am I the only one? Thanks for your help Mark. Don't remember having this

Hello Regina,

As far as I can tell, from what I remember of your original post on this, you
simply need to single-finger double-tap the Agree/Accept button located near
the lower right corner of the display.

It is not necessary to read through the entire terms of service agreement for
the app.

Also, now that I think about it, there may be a button that is labeled
something like Get Started/Continue. It will be located on the bottom line of
your display.

Also, just to keep things simple, be certain to close the app, via the app
switcher and reboot the phone before, once again, launching the app.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

RE: best practices for managing contacts across iphone and laptops

2016-09-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Robin,

I'll tell you what I do to manage and sync my contacts across my computer and
my iPhone. Be aware that this is what works best for me but that doesn't make
it the best practices.

First of all, I need to say that I'm not a huge fan of doing everything through
the cloud. I do love Dropbox and the access it has with all the apps I use to
make sharing across devices much easier. But I don't use Apple's iCloud for
purposes of syncing contact and other information between my iPhone and my
desktop computer. I've been using Outlook on my home computer to read my emails
and manage my contacts and calendar and still prefer to use Outlook on my home
computer as my primary input of contact information. It then syncs quite nicely
with my iPhone via iTunes to transfer contact and calendar info to my iPhone.
On the rare occasions I've needed to add contact info while traveling with only
my iPhone, anything I've entered that way syncs back to Outlook on my home
computer quite nicely. If you later leave your work, I'd suggest you invest in
a version of Microsoft Office that includes Outlook and runs on your home
computer.

I have a gmail account which is set up as POP3 on my desktop computer and as
IMAP on my iPhone. This way, I can download the email to my home computer in
the same fashion I've always done it. I have gmail set to archive any email
downloaded this way so I always have access via my iPhone to check all mail and
review any email that way. I have about 15GB of space Google is giving me for
free so it will hold a lot of archived email.

As I said earlier, this works best for me but there are many practices to do
what you want and you'll have to experiment to learn what works best for you.
Good luck.

Subject: best practices for managing contacts across iphone and laptops

Curious for best practices with managing and synching contacts across my iPhone
and windows based computers where I use Outlook to read mail and manage email
contacts. Until now, I would occasionally add phone numbers to my phone
directly. After I started including my work Outlook account on my phone, my
work contact would be visible, so I found it easier to add and edit contacts on
my work laptop in Outlook knowing they would show up in my phone. This is
great until the day that I no longer work at my company -- which I am not
currently planning. Before my home laptop died this summer, I had personal
contacts in Outlook on my home computer, but only used that for capturing
emails. When my laptop died, I had to have my iPhone pull in my Hotmail
contacts so that I could reach people. Now I see that I have cases where I had
entered a phone number in my phone, but there is a second entry in Contacts
from where an email address pulls in from Hotmail. If I combine those two in
my phone, does that mean that I would no longer have access to the email
address from Outlook on my personal computer? Or, is the best practiced to go
back and move the phone number entry into the entry that comes over from
Hotmail so that I maintain the entry in places via the Hotmail link to my
iPhone? If the recommendation is to always enter new contacts on the laptop,
what do you do when you are on the go and have a new phone number to add?

 Robin

Re: How do you get the station you're listening to stick in FM mode on the Woopower speaker?

2016-09-22 Thread Dave
when you first do a scan, let it complete. you will know when this happens, as
the scan will stop, after going through all the available stations.

Then it is just a matter, of pressing the 2 middle keys, which are surch up and
down.

you have to do a quick press, as a long press, will higher or lower the volume.

a quick press of these keys, will take you through the stations.

I know I’m doing
something incorrectly, so I’ll figure it out soon enough. In any case, this
device will work great in conjunction with Nearby Explorer, which is what I
wanted it for.

Have a blessed day, and don’t work too hard.

RE: iPhone 7 Audio with Headphone Jack Earpods and Adapter?

2016-09-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

I can't confirm about the remote buttons with the adapter, but I would hazard a
guess and say they will work fine, there is no way Apple would break such
important functionality.
As for the audio quality I think it's comparible. I just bought a set of
Lightning Earpods and tried both them and my old 3.5mm Earpods on my 6S Plus
and I can't say I noticed a big difference. The new ones sounded a bit fuller,
but as I said in another message, my old Earpods have been submerged a few
times, afterwards they sound pretty tiny and then once they dry out they seem
fine again, but I guess they aren't as new any more, either.
I happened to see on the Apple Store app under Accessories and Headphones that
there is a company called Audieze or something like that and they make some
high-end Lightning earphones, here in Canada they range from $600 Canadian to
over $1,000 Canadian, but I guess you have to compare Apples to Apples so to
speak which means you would need a $600 or $800 3.5mm headset to compare to one
of these high-end Lightning ones and maybe at that price point you would hear a
difference. All in all I think with a $35 set of Earpods (in Canadian funds)
you won't notice much of a difference between 3.5 and Lightning.

Sieghard

Subject: iPhone 7 Audio with Headphone Jack Earpods and Adapter?

I've read a lot about the removed headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and Apple's
wired adapter for use with headphone jack earphones and its push to the $160
wireless airpods coming out in late October. I haven't seen much about the
sound quality using the lightning adapter wired earpods provided with the
iPhone 7. I know I saw posts from audiophiles when the headphone jack removal
was rumored at how much higher quality audio could be provided via the
lightning connector.

Can anyone who has an iPhone 7 comment on how they perceive the audio quality
with the lightning wired earpods versus how it was with wired headphone jack
earpods on an older iDevice? I know this is a bit of apples to oranges but I'm
just curious in general terms. I also would like to know if the remote and
volume buttons on the old headphone jack earpods still work when connected to
an iPhone 7 using the short adapter provided with the phone. I'm a big user of
my wired earpods and since I have a couple of backups, I want to ensure that
they work completely with an iPhone 7 using the adapter.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Re: New Learning Ally App

2016-09-22 Thread Arnold Schmidt

The search from within the app definitely will be easier for some people to
use, but I have been using Safari on my IPhone to search and put books onto my
bookshelf for about as long as I have had the app, so that is no problem for
me. I had a Learning Ally representative tell me one day that their web site
just didn't seem to work very well with Safari. Really? I definitely will keep
the new one on my phone, too, to see if there are any updates.

New Learning Ally App

2016-09-22 Thread Arnold Schmidt

Thanks to today's Top Tech Tidbits, I learned about the new Learning Ally App.

RE: so who got there hands on iPhone7?

2016-09-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jim,

If you are on a two-year upgrade cycle in Canada I would probably wait until
the 10th anniversary iPhone next year. If you upgrade now and won't get to
upgrade next year you may regret it.
Yes, the 7 and 7 Plus will be faster, they have a better camera which may or
may not matter to you and you'll get better battery life as well as 3D touch.
But I think the iPhone in a year will be a much bigger deal and a much better
upgrade.

Sieghard

Hi Jim,

The 7 is the same size as the 6, and the 7 Plus is the same size as the 6 Plus.
The new phone definitely sounds better, with the stereo speakers. It's also
faster, particularly than the 6 and earlier models. The haptic feedback and 3D
Touch are nice as well. Only having one port for listening and charging is a
bit annoying, though.

Best,
Anna

VO not speaking message text when in my pocket/purse

2016-09-22 Thread Ann Byrne
iPhone SE, IOS 10. When the phone is enclosed, it signals that there
is a message, but does not read it. When the phone is on the desk,
or otherwise uncovered, it speaks the message. IOS earlier used to
speak the message no matter where the phone was. Is there a setting
i can change so that it speaks the message when in a pocket with IOS
10? When I am walking, it's a pain to have to pull the phone out of
my pocket, manage the dog, tweak the phone ... you get the picture.

Message preview is on. Speak all stuff is on.

Thanks,

VO issue while using wired earphones

2016-09-22 Thread denise avant
Hello all,
I have upgraded to IOS 10 on my 6 S plus phone.
I did not have this problem before
upgrading.

Denise,

Try turning VoiceOver off and then back on and see if this corrects the issue
so you get VO out of both ears. This is what I believe others have posted about
this problem.

RE: What is the "important" box in Gmail?

2016-09-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Mary,

Following my signature is the text from a page which discusses the Google
Important folder and how to re-train its intelligence or how to unsubscribe
from it. Be aware that this information is from a sighted perspective so I have
no clue whether the settings referenced are accessible. The information pasted
comes from this website:

http://support.postbox-inc.com/hc/en-us/articles/204362930-Gmail-Important-Folder

I'm pretty sure that like all things Gmail, no actual folders are involved.
Gmail groups everything based on labels and I suspect if you're seeing the same
message in multiple "folders", it's because it has more than one Gmail label
assigned to it. You would normally be the one charged with assigning these
labels but it sounds as if Google takes it upon itself to try and tag important
messages based on some algorithm.

Good luck and I hope this is helpful.

Alan Lemly

Gmail Important Folder

Having lots of unimportant e-mails labeled “Important” can be annoying. The
“Important” label is assigned to a message by Google, based on Google’s
adaptive understanding of your interests and priorities. There are a couple of
things you can do about this. You can do either, or both.

The Slow Fix: Re-Training Google

You can re-train Google about what’s important to you by removing the label
from each message you don’t consider important. If there’s message that you
think is important that Google’s has not labeled properly, you can assign the
Important label to it. Eventually, Google’s behavior will more accurately
reflect your wishes.

Here’s how to remove a message’s label in Postbox:

1. Select an e-mail in Postbox’s message list.
2. Hover your cursor over the Important label in the upper-right corner of
the message and click x when it appears to let Google know the message is not
important.

Here's how to add a message's label in Postbox:

1. Select an e-mail in Postbox’s message list.
2. In the upper-right corner of the message, you’ll see a popup menu.
Description:
http://support.postbox-inc.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/202237834/Popup.jpg
3. In this popup menu, select the Assign Label submenu.
4. Assign the Important label to the message to let Google know the
message is important.

The Quick Fix: Hiding the Important Folder in Postbox

You can unsubscribe from Google’s Important folder, so you don’t have to see or
deal with it. (It remains on Google’s servers. It’s just hidden in Postbox.)

Here are instructions

for unsubscribing from the Important folder.

After unsubscribing from the Important folder:

1. Go to Postbox (OS X)/Tools (Windows) > Preferences/Options > Accounts >
[your account] > Advanced…
2. Check the Show only subscribed folders option.
3. Restart Postbox.

I'm not exactly sure when this folder turned up. It could be, that it has been
there for a long time. But I see that it has a lot of messages in it. Some of
them seem to be duplicates that her and other folders, but I'm not sure about
all. And if they are duplicates, I don't need them twice. Anyway, if somebody
knows how to get rid of it or how to keep it from filling up, that would be
great.

Hi all,

I have noticed that I have a box in my Gmail account called "important". I
never set this up, nor did I specifically flag messages or senders whose posts
should be put there. Yet I have something like 200 messages in this box.. How
did that happen? How can I stop that? Or how can I just get rid of this folder,
which I did not create?

Thanks, Alan. It does sound like this was intended for a particular app. Post
box, which I assume is a Mail app for the Mac. Maybe it's possible to hide this
folder on the phone. Kind of doubt it, but whatever. Anyway, thank you for
posting.

RE: Tests show iPhone 7 with adapter sounds worse than iPhone 6s with 3.5mm headphone jack

2016-09-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
They wrote it because everybody likes to bash Apple. It is my guess that these
theoretical test results are not something most of us would actually notice or
hear the difference especially if you use a "normal" headset and not a $600 or
$1,000 super high-end earphones.
When I was in Vancouver and stopped by an Apple store I actually bought a set
of the new Lightning Earpods for my 6S Plus because I was curious as to the
experience and the sou,d. Yes, I do often charge my phone at night when I also
want to listen to a book on Audible so I either reach for my old Earpods or use
Bluetooth, but I like the Lightning Earpods, they sound good although I can't
say they sound a lot better than my 3.5mm set where the ear pieces have been in
the water a few times since sometimes I have them hanging around my neck and
they fall in the sink when I wash my hands.

Tests show iPhone 7 with adapter sounds worse than iPhone 6s with 3.5mm

#iPhone7 #iPhone6s – Tests
show iPhone 7 with adapter sounds worse than iPhone 6s with 3.5mm headphone
jack : With all of the media coverage leading up to and following Apple’s big
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus unveiling, just about everyone on the planet knows
at this point that Apple ditched the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead,
its latest iPhones include only a Lightning port on the bottom.

Apple suggests that iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus owners use either wireless
headphones or wired headphones with a Lightning connector, like the EarPods
Apple included in the box.

Of course, there’s also a 3.5mm-to-Lightning adapter included with the iPhone 7
series that lets you connect your old 3.5mm headphones with no problem.

Despite all the steps Apple has taken and despite the popularity of wireless
headphones, people still have a number of complaints about Apple’s decision to
do away with the 3.5mm audio port on its latest iPhones.

Some complaints are valid while others are a stretch, but now it looks like a
new issue may have been uncovered that no one even realized until now.

A German
magazine
has run extensive tests on the audio adapter included in the box with Apple’s
new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The magazine’s goal was to determine whether or
not there is any sound degradation when using the adapter as compared to the
standard 3.5mm audio port on last year’s iPhone 6s.

While the article is in German and translations have varied a bit on
Reddit
 and on the gadget
forum where we the
article was first linked, it looks like the tests did in fact find that sound
quality is degraded when the adapter is being used.

A translated quote from the article:

The results are clear: with an iPhone 6S, the dynamic range worsens by 4.5
dB(A) for 24-bit music files. For the iPad Air, it worsens by 3.8 dB(A).

The signal also gets worse for 16-bit music files, even if they aren’t that
drastic: the dynamic range worsens by 1.8 dB(A) and 3.1 dB(A) for the iPhone
and iPad, respectively.

And here’s a chart that shows the full results from the tests:

Now, before rage overcomes you and you smash your new iPhone 7 against a wall,
you should know that these results aren’t terribly troubling.

Without diving into a technical explanation, the bottom line is that the
difference is going to be completely imperceptible to most people. Even
audiophiles with an incredible ear for sound won’t notice the difference unless
they’re listening to high-quality 24-bit audio files.

While streaming music through services like Spotify, or while listening to
compressed sound files in popular formats like MP3, not even the snobbiest
sound snobs out there will be able to tell the difference. Source:

Important folder and how to re-train its intelligence or how to unsubscribe

comes from this website:

http://support.postbox-inc.com/hc/en-us/articles/204362930-Gmail-Important-Folder

Re: Speaker sound quality comparison between the 6+ and the 7

2016-09-22 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Dan,

The speaker is on the front of the display. It is the same speaker as the
speaker that phone calls are routed through.

I hope this helps.

Re: Buttons on the Woopower Speaker

not quite sure, which speech you are refering to.
if you are refering to the speech of the person doing the podcast, well! if it
was any slower, i would have gone into a hypnotic state!

And, the speech was too fast and, their was entirely too much ambient room
noise.
If you slow your speech Down a little and, get a little closer you'll have it
made.

Best Practice to not Hijack Threads was Re: best practices for managing contacts across iphone and laptops

2016-09-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Robin,

I can't answer your question but I'd kindly ask you to please not reply to an
existing message and then delete the subject and message body as if you were
starting a new thread. This is called thread hijacking and though it might
appear to you as if you've started a new post, there are hidden links to the
previous thread that ties your new subject post to it. However, those of us who
read this list by thread will see your subject but the other five messages in
the thread will be about the subject you hijacked.

I noticed that you hijacked two different threads and wanted to explain this so
you could avoid it in the future.

To start a new thread, you need to create a brand new message as opposed to
replying to an existing one and deleting its content.

Thanks.

Thanks for this. I’ve seen messages about hijacking threads but didn’t know
this was what was meant.

I always thought it was about messages that kept the same subject line but were

my work laptop in Outlook knowing they would show up in my phone. This is
great until the day that I no longer work at my company -- which I am not

contacts in Outlook on my home computer, but only used that for capturing
Or, is the best practiced to go
back and move the phone number entry into the entry that comes over from
Hotmail so that I maintain the entry in places via the Hotmail link to my
iPhone? If the recommendation is to always enter new contacts on the laptop,
what do you do when you are on the go and have a new phone number to add?

a couple of questions

2016-09-22 Thread rubyalphonse
Hi list members, this is Ruby from Bangalore India. I have a couple of
questions, one is, I recently reset my iPhone 6 before that, I gave a back
up to the iClouds, I lost some of the contacts which are very important to
me, when I restored my iPhone, I really got upset when I lost the very
contacts I want. Now, how do I get them back? Another question is, when I
book Uber for some one, I need to give the driver's contact number of that
person to the driver! And how do I give the person's number? Then, how do I
save my location and the destination once for all, since I go to my office
every day? Please helpme, any thought and idea or help would be appreciated.
Thanks again, Ruby

Difficult is relative. You need to find the correct download file for iOS
9 and your particular device. An iPhone will have a different download
file than an iPad and there are even different files for different phone
versions. One website where these are usually available is
 http://ipswdownloader.com/
Once you have downloaded the file you may have to change the extension
 from .zip to .ipsw
Once that is done you have to connect your device to iTunes, go to your
device area and after tabbing to the "Update" button activate it with
 Shift+Enter.
A standard Windows open file dialogue will appear, browse to the folder
where your IPSW file is saved, select it and press "Open".
Your phone will then "upgrade" or in this case "downgrade".
Keep in mind that Apple only signs previous iOS versions for a fairly
short time so you probably have to do this in the next few days, it may
still work middle or late next week, but nobody knows.
Besides all that I recommend against downgrading since you only postpone
the inevitable. It is better to learn the new OS and deal with the few
challenges which may exist than to go back and then in a year or two when
you may need a new device you get kicked from iOS 9 to iOS 11 or iOS 12
where things maybe even more different.

Hi Mary, this folder, for me, was there even before I got an IOS device. Not
too sure whether you can get rid of it, and if so, how, or what's it's purpose.

Re: What is the "important" box in Gmail?

2016-09-22 Thread Mary Otten
I'm not exactly sure when this folder turned up. It could be, that it has been
there for a long time. But I see that it has a lot of messages in it. Some of
them seem to be duplicates that her and other folders, but I'm not sure about
all. And if they are duplicates, I don't need them twice. Anyway, if somebody
knows how to get rid of it or how to keep it from filling up, that would be
great.

using siri to locate and call places

2016-09-22 Thread Jim Ruby
I am having a problem with siri under ios 10

Here is what I am doing and the result

Say Siri find office max
Siri responds with I found office max on county road 1 and asked do you want
that one?
At the beep to talk I says yes
Siri responds I can get directions or call
At the beep to talk I say "call"

Then siri comes back with who do you want to call.

This happens with anything I try using the scenario above.

This used to work great under ios 9.
Any one have a solution or experiencing the same problem?

Thanks

Hi Jim,
I do not have a solution, but for me the behavior you are reporting has been
the same for a long time. In other words, it did not start with iOS 10. And
yes, it is very frustrating. Google works wonderfully in this situation.

I think that the Important Inbox is not an extra lot of emails unavailable
elsewhere but rather just a way for you to see only emails from people you know
and are already in your contacts. I just ignore it. Harry

Re: Speaker sound quality comparison between the 6+ and the 7

2016-09-22 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

The new phones can play lower frequencies through the speakers as well. I have
an app that plays some melodies that sound more or less like music boxes. On
the iPhone 7, I played one of these, and it has a bass line that was completely
inaudible on previous phones.

Best,
Anna

I had an interesting experience with my new ipad mini 4 that arrived yesterday.
Many of the voices that come with ios 10 didn’t show up. I called Apple

2016-09-22 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I have noticed that I have a box in my Gmail account called "important". I
never set this up, nor did I specifically flag messages or senders whose posts
should be put there. Yet I have something like 200 messages in this box. How
did that happen? How can I stop that? Or how can I just get rid of this folder,
which I did not create?

iPhone 7 Audio with Headphone Jack Earpods and Adapter?

2016-09-22 Thread Alan Lemly
I've read a lot about the removed headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and Apple's
wired adapter for use with headphone jack earphones and its push to the $160
wireless airpods coming out in late October. I haven't seen much about the
sound quality using the lightning adapter wired earpods provided with the
iPhone 7. I know I saw posts from audiophiles when the headphone jack
removal was rumored at how much higher quality audio could be provided via
the lightning connector.

Can anyone who has an iPhone 7 comment on how they perceive the audio
quality with the lightning wired earpods versus how it was with wired
headphone jack earpods on an older iDevice? I know this is a bit of apples
to oranges but I'm just curious in general terms. I also would like to know
if the remote and volume buttons on the old headphone jack earpods still
work when connected to an iPhone 7 using the short adapter provided with the
phone. I'm a big user of my wired earpods and since I have a couple of
backups, I want to ensure that they work completely with an iPhone 7 using
the adapter.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Re: Speaker sound quality comparison between the 6+ and the 7

2016-09-22 Thread Dan
hello,

Thank you very much. I sure appreciate that. Having not seen one, I guess I
thought it would be on the end of the phone, for better stereo. Oh well. Thank
you thanks to both of you for responding.

RE: Speaker sound quality comparison between the 6+ and the 7

2016-09-22 Thread Wendy Alling
Hi,

Coming from a 6 to a 7, I didn't have the benefits of having a better
speaker, but I can say that the speakers in the 7 sound great! I played
music for the first time today and there is a definite difference in the
bass and sound as well. I did hear the stereo separation when I had the
phone in landscape mode and held the phone up to my ear to listen.

Re: How do I go back to my previous version?

2016-09-22 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Kathy,
I certainly have said something about it, more than once, sigh. I have also
reported it along with sending examples to Apple. Unfortunately, or
fortunately, if you are one of the lucky people, this bug at least as it
applies to mail, does not seem to be affecting everyone who uses voice over. I
have no idea why. I did some chatting off list with another user including
sending him examples, and going through settings and comparing. He doesn't have
a problem. I do. I have it on more than one device. He does not have it on his
devices. It is especially bad in mail, where I get plenty of emails which are
laid out as though they were tables. Course they're not really tables, not in
the sense that you need to know row and column for data presentation. It's all
for show and lay out. And reading those emails is, frankly painful. I can only
hope that Apple will eventually sooner rather than later, fix this. I hope it
isn't like the thread send mail bug, where VoiceOver goes away and your remedy
is to either wait it out, or turn it off and on when this happens. That was
present through all of iOS 9 and still in iOS 10. Of course, not everybody has
that one either. Some of us are just lucky.
Mary

Outlook app versus native mail app

2016-09-22 Thread R Van Lant
I am quite comfortable and happy with the native email app. Does the
Outlook mail app provide any advantages? I was thinking of maybe trying
it with this email address, which I currently don't have on my phone
because of the traffic on this group. On my home pc, I prefer to read
this email group via conversation threads.

best practices for managing contacts across iphone and laptops

2016-09-22 Thread R Van Lant
