Thanks Paul and others who have responded to my problem.

The Psion Revo and Revo Plus are looking like good possibilities (on
the net anyway). Does anyone know if anybody stocks these in Perth so
we can actually see them in the flesh so to speak. I also see that Mac
software is available for them which makes them even more of a
possibility.

Thanks again to all those who have given some most useful advice

Well, Keith was still alive as of Wednesday, and I've never had
anything but excellent service from Zytech. It's quite easy for
something to put such an operation temporarily out of contact for any
number of quite legitimate reasons. Also, having given credit card
details is quite different from having being charged for an order
that's unfilled.

Have you tried calling him?

I was getting a lot of spam with multiple iinet address and it got
me thinking how they were getting them. Had a look around their web
pages and they had a page in the members section where you could
search all the people who were members and obtain their e-mail
address. The results came out at 20 at a time, for instance if I
put dav in the search box, I was given 20 iinets e-mail addresses
beginning with dav.

I notified iinet of this and at they eventually took the search
facility away. That was only about a month ago so there are plenty
of people who retrieved thousands of iinets e-mail addresses this
way.

I would advise anybody who has a web address with iinet and is
listed in the Zoo database, is to cancel your listing in the Zoo.

All iinets e-mail addresses are tied with your web address unless
you have your own domain name. For instance if your web address is

WAIT UP ANGUS !

I am one amongst prosbably many who have never used Entourage and
as a consequence have no idea what your problem can be caused by.

I use Netscape Messenger and until recently version 4.79 and it had no
such automatic function to add email addresses that I have come across.
However version 7.0.2 which I have just started trialling
does have that as an alternative selectable in the mail preferences
somewhere.

I suggest yours should have a choice in preferences SOMEWHERE.
You just have to find it.

Angus

As far as I can establish it isn't possible to automatically add new
addresses to the address book in Entourage. You can of course manually
create a new address by using the new contact menu command, or by pointing
at the 'from' header in any received message and doing a 'control + click'
(which brings up an 'add to address book' option).

What Entourage will allow you to do - which serves the same purpose that you
want - is to show you a list of recently used addresses (from messages in
your inbox and outbox) when you are addressing a new message. To turn this
feature on you need to go to Mail and News Preferences > Compose> Recently
Used Addresses and check the box if you want to turn this feature on.

What this means is that if I wanted to send a message to you all I need to
do is type 'a' or 'an' in the 'To' field and I immediately get a drop down
list of everyone I have sent or received a message from who's name starts
with 'a' or 'an', from which I can choose your name.

Re: PalmTop Advice

2003-06-21 Thread Shay Telfer

I am wondering if anyone is using or can recommend a Palmtop (I think
my terminology is correct) we need a small device (keyboard/screen)
smaller than a laptop but large enough to type client notes on as the
client is being seen. The person who will be using this has the
ability to type without the need to look at the keyboard (better than
me in other words). The standard little palmtops are a bit small.

The other important requirement is that it will need enough memory to
store the text before I transfer to our main program which is run on
our Macs (Filemaker). So obviously there needs to be a way to transfer
between it and our Mac. I anticipate that I will need to copy and
paste into Filemaker once I get the text transferred to the Mac.

Well, personally I'd go for a Palm, something like JFile or FileMaker
Mobile (that auto syncs with FileMaker) and a Palm keyboard. But that
doesn't seem to fit your criteria.

If it's just text you need, you could try an AlphaSmart keyboard,
although it probably doesn't fit your size, and possibly your screen
criteria

That is absolute rubbish and I take offence.

You have now on three different occasions asked us about automatically
adding addresses to Entourage.

The fact that no-one responded indicates to me that the problem has
likely nothing to do with Entourage, and much more likely something in
your personal setup. Alternatively everybody hates you :-)

In-fact, a suggestion was made in the message you just responded to.

So, perhaps you should learn to read before you start abusing people.

In-fact, you've not even suggested what you've done to investigate the
problem yourself, nor have you provided any evidence of using a simple
google search.

If you feel that my response is too strong, then I unreservedly
apologise. I feel that too many viewers are *expecting* to be helped,
even though that expectation is entirely unreasonable. You may be helped
or you may not be helped. The result is entirely random and by the grace
of other readers.

Perhaps you've not gotten to this paragraph because now you're upset,
but that's just tough.

If you were to look in the rules section of Entourage you might find a
filter that is adding entries to the Address book. I know this is
possible, because a simple google search has as the first result a
discussion about using Entourage to manage a mailing list.

So, go away and do your home-work, or if you already did, then show us,
so we don't all duplicate your efforts to that point.

I'm upset, grumpy and it's not because I didn't have any coffee.

I think this is where my terminology and description have let me down.

The Palm idea (although a great one and my first thought as well) is
not going to be any good. We really need a miniature keyboard device
with a small screen (all in one). The screen needs to be bigger than a
Palm (which we have) but much smaller than the 12" laptop and the
individual keyboard needs to be smaller than what I have seen through
my searches on the net. The keyboard would need to be about the size
of a video cassette (approximately 20cm x 10cm) with the screen
attached about the same size. Everything I have ever seen have been
either smaller or bigger...

I know I am being very particular here but the situation requires it to
be this way. So any further suggestions would be most grateful before
I venture into the land of retail...

Thanks to all who have responded and made suggestions received so far.
I much prefer to be at least a little bit educated before I go forth...

Ok if the user does not mind learning "graffiti" then the palm pilots are a
great choice, once you are up to speed you can type very fast.

You can also buy a full sized fold up keyboard for the palms too :o)

USB will hotsink to a Mac and PC :o)

Ask Shay, he is the man of lists for Sungroper ;o)

I have never used a palm keyboard, as I can write reasonably fast with
"graffiti"

do receive (my ISP does not run Spamcop, and is not explicitly
filtering Yahoo mail).

As a disclaimer, I did try to look at the spamcop site last night, but
it wasn't working for me. This morning I checked again...

Of course, SpamCop doesn't actually filter any mail, your ISP does.
