names of actors and preaching
HI GANG!! *sigh** Rule 2, Rule 2..Thanks to Aunt Bee in Orlando and others who have expressed what I have put off for several hours in writing. I get up at 4:30am, go in at 5 and get off and 1pm, and one of the things I look forward to when I get home is logging into the bulletin board. One thing I will not put up with however, is being PREACHED at on here in attempt to show your intellectual superiority.. I think most lovers of TAGS know their characters by the characters name, so referring to them in that manner is really cool, and at least they are talking about our favorite show in that fashion and shouldn't have to go do a bunch of research to make it politically correct. This is not the place for soap boxes, leave that on the shelves in the store. Like I said, when I read that at 1:15 this afternoon I was so mad I purposely put off replying until I cooled off. Same goes with the complaints about TVland, we've sung that song and dance before and they WILL show our show again. If we don't like their other shows, don't watch and leave it at that. This board is no place for venting those feelings. Now to the business at hand, TAGS is shown here everyday on WTTV, Channel 4 in Indy at 8am, two episodes. They showed the one today where Opie got the job at the store and then lied to get fired to help out the other boy who needed to pay bills. A great message in that show and example of the compassion Opie had for others. TAGS really had the best writers of any show in those days! Have a great day folks and lets talk TAGS and leaving the dry as dust preaching to Rev. Tucker!! Giving Away Endings
I know how you feel about giving away endings, Paul. It happened to me a few weeks ago in church. Our pastor had a long sermon and it was all about the Book of Revelation. Now I ask you, how could he do such a thing. I have been faithfully reading my Bible every night and I was just getting to the good parts and couldn't wait to find out how it all ended and what did he do but gave a sermon on the last book. He done went and spoiled the whole thing for me. I even told him I wasn't going to read any more of my bible because he told me how it came out. And do you know what he did? He laughed. actors names
in response to using actors names.i prefer the characters names over the real ones because even though i recognize the names i cant allways put it with the person.and as far as im concerned the names used on the show are the real ones and the only ones that count ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Re: Alfred Hitchcock Presents
OK, I get that the people who portray the characters we love on TAGS have real names, and I think that most of us know their real names. But when you love a show as much as we love TAGS, I think that most of us come to think of the characters AS real people. I always say, "There's Aunt Bee" or "There's Barney Fife" when I see them on other shows. I don't think it's a matter of not knowing their real names. I feel that this site should be for having fun and sharing info and our mutual love for the show and its characters. So let's continue to have fun with it! Re: Elderberry Wine
I'm thinking that the episode where Aunt Bee mentioned Andy's homemade wine was the one with the former Senator from Washington D.C., John Canfield. (played by Charlie Ruggles). Can anyone confirm this or am I totally (not partially) nuts? Susi Blank Miss Crump (many years later) "Well, is he?" Haircut?
Paul, I hate to ask, but did you get a haircut this morning and them little hairs get down your neck and back and irritate you ? That vein in your neck is sticking out, and you seem a little testy this morning. I guess we all have those days, love ya anyway. More Alumni Sightings
These three sightings were all on MeTV. Our "man in a hurry" Mr. Tucker (Robert Emhardt) was sighted twice, over the weekend in The Wild. Wild West, and this morning on The Streets of San Francisco. Mr. Fix-it Emmett Clark (Paul Hartman) was in an episode of The Twilight Zone which also starred Gilligan's Island Prof. Roy Hinckley (Russell Johnson). ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
sightings
Sorry if it bugs you Paul, but to many of us, the actors who portrayed our beloved Mayberry characters are who they are and always will be in our minds. What's the harm in referring to them as we mostly know them? Hang loose! Aunt Bee of Orlando ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Elderberry Wine
Well I think I must be imagining things. I truly believe that there is a color episode that Aunt Bee refers to Andy making Elderberry wine from his own recipe. I have watched the episodes where I thought it was mentioned but have not ran across the right one. Does this sound even remotely familiar to anyone else? My husband has a batch of elderberry wine going right now and I wanted him to know that he was in good company if Andy makes wine too. Hope someone knows the answer it is driving me batty and I don't have far to go. Lori The County Nurse ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Motorcycles in Mayberry
We saw the genuine two wheeled motorcycles in several episodes of TAGS. When the State Police came into Mayberry in Episode 2 "The Manhunt" they came into town on motorcycles with the sirens blowing. Also when Thomas A. Mooney, AKA, Sheldon, was escorted to the county line he was escorted by two policemen on motorcycles. In Mayberry RFD two episodes had motorcycles too. Howard's girlfriend took up motorcycle riding and wanted Howard to do the same but when he got on her cycle he decided not to ride along. Then in Emmett's Birthday a young chap rode up to Emmett on his motorcycle and asked for directions. He thanked Emmett and called him "Gramps". Otis Cambell sighting
I thought the Andy G show was the first to come up with Otis not wanting to go home and getting kicked out of jail against his will but it's not, I seen a sitcom of the Ozzie and Harriet show from 1959 called "the runaways" showing Otis himself not wanting to go home from the jail and the police officer kicking him out and telling him to go home to his wife and he was threatening to report them for being unconstitutional. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
My daughter was practicing "Funeral March of a Marionette" on the piano the other day and it reminded me that I hadn't watched any episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents in a very long time. I checked Netflix, and sure enough the series is available for instant viewing. As has been mentioned on here before, the first episode features Frances Bavier. Notice I did not say "I saw Aunt Bea on Alfred Hitchcock" -- it always bugs me a little when somebody says something like "I saw Floyd and Mayor Stoner in an old western movie." Use the actors' names, folks. If you don't know them, look them up on IMDb, it's not hard, and you'll learn something new. But I digress. Anyway, check it out on Netflix if you've a mind to. One more thing, when discussing Alfred Hitchcock Presents or The Twilight Zone or shows of that ilk, DO NOT GIVE AWAY THE ENDING, many people have not seen those episodes and may want to view them for themselves. If there's one thing I can't stand it's a family interferer, and if there's a second thing it's people give away the ending of something I was planning to watch.
