In addition to the first of year species reported from Pelee Island and Point
Pelee National Park, the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory, in banding birds
at Hillman Marsh Conservation Area, banded the following first of year species
on Wednesday, May 2, 2012:

VanderZweep and myself, just off MacDonnell Island in the Long Sault Parkway.
MacDonnell Island is reached easiest by coming in the Long Sault entrance. Go
over two bridges and you are on MacDonnel. We also had a red
The return to seasonable weather has turned up some great birds. This
afternoon around 3PM, we found a FOS scarlet tanager at the entrance to
Charlottenburgh Park on Highway #2 just west of Lancaster, On. The breeding
plumage male put on a great show in the trees on the the east side of the ro
Male Baltimore Oriole taking advantage of the nectar in our oriole
feeders. Although he has to share with several Red-Bellied Woodpeckers
who have taken a real fancy to these feeders over the last few years.

I birded the park for two hours starting at 11:20 pm. Quite breezy
but I did record 21 Yellow-rumped, 2 Black-throated Blue, 1 each of
Nashville, Pine, Palm and Black-throated Green. No vireos or
flycatchers but 3 Hermit Thrushes and 1 Veery. Tomorrow could not
possibly be worse!

Just after sending the note about the swifts, a Baltimore Oriole was heard
singing, then was spotted, in the ravine behind my apartment building at 6:10
p.m.
The same location: west of Keele Street, north of Eglinton, south of Lawrence.

We've had six White-crowned Sparrows appear in our backyard since 5:00 PM
and as a bonus a Yellow-rumped Warbler, the first warbler of the year. The
house backs onto Dunegan Park in Cobourg's southeast quarter which can be
reached by driving south on D'Arcy Street.

Heard at about 3:30 p.m. today, above my apartment building near the Black
Creek ravine, just west of Keele Street, north of Eglinton and south of
Lawrence. Swifts roost and nest in the neighbouring building every year.

Hello All
Migration has certainly picked up in the park in the last three days.
There have been lots of great sightings today.
As was just reported earlier - a Western Meadowlark was present on the
West Beach footpath today, by the aptly nicknamed "serengeti tree", approx
200 m north of the Ti
today in our backyard the Yellow-rumps and a Palm Warbler arrived!! First for
us this year. Saw dozens of YRs earlier today at Loch March GC. We are on

At Reesor Pond this am, in the wake of yesterday's flock of 28 Greater and
Lesser Yellowlegs,
none of which remained, 1 Semi-palmated Plover - year's 1st - had arrived while
1 Dunlin and
4 Pectoral Sandpipers were also found.
Among the gulls, one stood out. Simiiar to a summer adult Herring G
House Wren, Yellow Warbler, Black and White Warbler.

Not sure if this is report worthy, but while out doing Woodcock point
counts this evening, I heard a Barred Owl calling. This was at the
intersection of St Michaels Rd and Clyde Line in Central Huron County, just
east of Blythe. GPS co-ordinates are 43.73877 -81.34124
