Hi Gary, et al:
It is a long-eared owl; Will Anderson in Boulder (and others) are correct. This
LEOW does have a rather light face, however, but the horizontal flank and upper
leg barring, and the rusty brown dorsal surfaces of the wing, along with the
white "supercilliary" eyebrow type marking
Hi all,
I posted this yesterday about an owl, but as OWL-Douglas county.
However, it s really a questions about owl behavior.

Hi All,
Last evening I received an e-mail about one of my banded Northern
Saw-whet Owls that I thought some of you may be interested in.
The owl was banded in Estes Park on 10/4/2012 and was recaptured and
released in Bartonsville PA. on 11/8/2016. That bird moved over 1700
miles in 4 years
I walked this morning east of 25th Avenue along the Poudre Trail in Greeley
and spotted an owl's nest with 2 owlets in the nest and what looked like a
Great Horned owl nearby. This location is about 50 yards east of marker

I would agree, but there are two arguments to support not feeding the
owls,or any bird, that are often over-looked. Where would you get live
mice? From a pet store? AS a wildlife manager, I would certainly caution
against introducing domestic mouse populations into the wild. They can have

Hello birders,
Here’s a controversial topic: Is it okay to feed a Snowy Owl to get a
better look, get a better photo? Seems cruel to throw live mice toward an
owl, at least for the mice. And obviously one should not feed an owl a
poisoned rodent. But apparently there are arguments on the othe
Hi all,
I am looking for a photograph of a Great Horned Owl with a skunk. If
anyone has such a photo, please contact me at my pygmyowl e-mail.

I went out in slightly better light tonight and two owls were on the

conclusion that I likely mis-IDed the owls in west Longmont. They are bulky

I am considering purchasing an owl box for Screech Owls. Though I have never
seen any in my area, I am hoping to attract them to my yard as nesters. Is
this a long shot or a worthwhile endeavor?

Cobirders,
Around 6:30 this evening, as I was getting dinner prepared, several times I
thought I saw the flash of a wing out over the back patio. But, at 6:30,
all I could see against the pitch black of night was kitchen reflections.
I assumed my brain was playing tricks on me, since I'd watched

less. This year, so far I have seen 10 species owls in Colorado.
I was wondering if anyone on this list serve would like to join me
Hello all;
My fourth grade son has a science fair project due in January and he would
like to do something with birds.
I was thinking that an Owl Pellet project would be interesting for him to
do.
If anyone has any known sites where we could pick up some pellets or would
be willing to send us so
Hi All,
Tonight after giving up on trying to capture Flammulated Owls, we desided to
play the Saw-whet owl tape. It really paid off because we caught 5 Juvinile
Northern Saw-whet Owls.
The first two were caught at 10:30pm Two more at 11:00pm and the last at 11:25
pm. We closed up shop at 12:
Hi All,
Last evening after setting up for a night of owl banding, we caught the first
owl of the season. However, the way it was caught was a bit unusual.
The way we catch the nocturnal owls is quite simple. We set up a series of mist
nets. Our setup is a "T" shape. At the top of the "T" is a
Hi all,
It's that time of year again. I am going to begin my annual fall owl banding
project. The first evening will be this coming Monday evening the 22nd of
August beginning at dark with the hopes of catching Flammulated Owls. I will be
trapping after dark for a few hours each evening until t

Hi all,
I have a Great Horned Owl that has set up house keeping in a cliff. I took a
photo of the female on the nest and in the back of the nest is a large black

I have a photo of the object, but am having trouble identifying it. If
Hi all,
Just checked a Northern Saw-whet Owl nest and found two chicks and three eggs.
My guess is that the first egg hatched on the 13th and the other hatched this
morning because the egg shell was still in the nest box in large sections.
Also in the box were two whole Deer Mice and three p

Hi All,
Yesterday while checking my saw-wet owl nest boxes, I found an owl peering
out of one. This is the perfect time for them to be setting up house
keeping.
Most owls here ususlly fledge about the middle of May, which puts egg
laying in early to middle March. I won't check the box again unt

Hi all,
Been reading about the Snowy Owl and began wondering if anyone had seen the owl

I am curious to what the owl is feeding on, if anyone has noticed.

Hi all,
While hiking the Cowcreek trail in RMNP this afternoon, I found two Northern
Pygmy-Owls. One was vocalizing on the Gem Lake trail, just south of where it
meets the Cowcreek Trail.
The other was on the Cowcreek trail about 500 yards west of the Ranch
buildings.
