Avoid mixing the modules up by editing /usr/src/linux/Makefile after you
have run 'make menuconfig' or 'make xconfig'.
Just change the EXTRAVERSION string (the 4th line down) to something else.
This string will be compiled into your kernel, and be part of the modules
directory name.

Thanks.

Mandrake really needs 3 lists:
- newbie
- KnowEnuf2bDangerous
- expert
See if you can guess which category I'm in. Anyway...
1. I like to use my vi keys for command line editing (ESC-K brings up the last
command). In RH 6.0 and prior versions, I've put "set -o vi" in /etc/bashrc
and it worked

Hi all,
My boss wants to move our largest servers over to Sun Solaris on the
Sparc. I'm not to keen on this as Linux has been so very good to
us for three years now.
Is there a distrobution that will run linux on the Sparc environment?
If so how does it compare to solaris?
Thanks

Ummm, RedHat?
There is a substantial difference. See the essay by Maddog.
A link is available at www.linuxmall.com on their news ticker. Basically,

I had problem moving from RH6.0 to LM6.0 with PCMCIA. My problem was frozen
keyboard due to PCMCIA and GPM interfarence. By moving GPM before PCMCIA in SYS-V
init script, I got by OK.
This may not be the solution for you but playing the SYS-V init order or process
may give you a solution.
Any reason why your boss wants to move to
Solaris ? Our company is planning to start offering
mid range servers next month running
Linux. Sorry but, I do not agree that Linux is not ready.
If you go with Sun there are those pesky
license fees. They get you now or they get you
later.
My quantex laptop uses the neomagic chip set for video. Quantex notebooks
start at 1300$ and go up to 3199 $ ( No I don't work for Quantex) Quantex
and Dell use the same basic components so you might get a better deal from
Dell. I don't know of anybody else that uses the neomagic chipset.
