The SDR1000 w/o pa would be a great SWL receiver too.
I do listen often to international broacast stations and the audio from the
SDR1000 is the best. It tops any receiver I have used.
The numbers on the 5000 might be better but from a value vs performance it
is hard to beat the SDR1000. Great to
Hi, All,
The postman brought me my Passport to World Band Radio 2008 today with
the review of the Flex-5000A that Bob Sherwood mentioned. So seeing
the numbers on his website shouldn't be too far off in the future.
The review covered 3 pages, and addressed only the receiver, since

I agree with John's answers except for one thing. If you are trying to get
rid of the sound card DC hump on receive, you will need to put the isolator
in the "To Line In" circuit. The "To Line Out" circuit is for the transmit
drive. The transmitter side is recommended if you run AM.

Boy o boy, must have had a brain bubble or something,
When I said,
"..running the receive buffers at 4096 to maintain filter performance
while reducing the receive buffers to 256 (cw) or 512.", this was in
fact code
for, "set the Receive DSP buffers to 4096 and the TRANSMIT DSP buffers

calibrate the PA.
Any other suggestions, please ?

Wanted to share that I just love my new radio. Worked right out of the box.
Only thing that I need to learn thus far is the adjustment of VOX. I have
an EV 27 going directly in the front panel and getting wonderful audio
reports. The VOX is so sensitive and I still haven't found the right

There could be a real market for XP in the future. I plan to keep mine
around. Thanks Neal, I would like to hear the outcome. I am getting
ready to put "Leopard" on my Mac Book and BootCamp comes with it. A group
interested in my 1000 may want the confuser also, the whole enchilada as it
were.

Gerald;
I picked up both of the isolation devices that are available at Radio
Shack, as follows:
(Item #1) Radio Shack "Ground loop eliminator" Cat #: 270-054 @$16.99
(Item #2) Radio Shack "1:1 Isolation transformer" Cat #: 273-1374 @$3.99
Item #1 has no impedance specifications that I can see;

Alan,
I agree with Gerald's comment, that it sounds like a firewire-related
issue. The double set of dings sounds a little suspicious, although I
have on occasion heard that same thing myself but don't experience any
tuning issues, so I can't say whether it has any relevance or not.

It took a long time to make it happen again this morning, no matter what

Has anyone used the Flex-5000x with "BootCamp" on an intel Mac. The 1394

"BootCamp"? IF this all came together, I could see a lot of happy Mac users.

Hi Rob,
Based on your description, you either have a very bad ground loop between
the SDR-1000 and sound card or the sound card has a problem. The Radio
Shack ground isolators work reasonable well in this application for both
