Hi,
Here is something I had up and running with my freevo-1.3.2-pre4, I haven't
ported it to the latest release yet (but the maintainer of "idlebar.py"
might be interested of doing that ?).
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm running Debian and use the
"full binary release" of Freevo.
I read at the installation section in Freevo web page
for Debian that "a binary of Freevo itself will not be
available until the next major release of Freevo." is
that still valid and what exactly does it mean for
I dont know if this helps any...
everything in lirc works until I start freevo.
freevo does not respond to any of the remote's events.
exit freevo and try irw again, I sucessfully see the remote's output events.
Checking my /etc/freevo/lircrc it does match the button names in my

Hi,
I know that the setup is from freevo.conf. But for some reason it does not work with
Freevo 1.3.4 but it does work with Freevo 1.3.2.

Ok anyone have a guide to setting up lirce that is better than the install
instructions?
the lircrc file the freevo/helpers perl script creates contradicts the lirc
documentation.
does anyone have a working lircrc file that they are willing toshare so I
can figure this out? lirc likes my remote.
hmm.. have you followed the instructions of dxr3 setup (not the one in
freevo)?
do you have the devices for the dxr3 card?
cd em8300;cd modules;make devices
or something like that..

I've been following the docs and have patched SDL, but still no joy - I've
posted a couple of replys already but they don't seem to be getting thru.

Ok not 100% sure about this but I've just tried playing an mpeg 1 file thru

can't see why not - even though I can't physically see the output :-).
tried mplayer -vo dxr3 -ao oss://em8300_ma-0 test.mpg

Hi,
yesterday, I've tried to get freevo working on my TV. I am using freevo in framebuffer
mode with resolution 640 x 480. So far so good.
Then, I have switched to the TV using
nvtv -r 640,480 -s Small -t
now, I saw the console on the LCD and on the TV. (I wondered about this, cause the
Hopefully your card will work when you try it with mplayer :)
Seems like you have setup everything right. You might want to run
em8300setup -d btw,
then you'll be able to get both ac3 and pcm sound. I get the flicker on the
tv everytime I reboot /
reinitialize the card, so that's normal.
You should

Thanks Johan,
I haven't tried running it with mplayer as yet, as I was trying to work thru
everything systematically. I will try mplayer when I'm actually infront of
the box next. I was wondering if the mpeg should be a specific format for
the dxr3, maybe it can only scale divisions of PAL resolut

Another note, theres instructions somewhere on the freevo website, you need to
manually patch SDL to get freevo to output on a DXR3. When I get some time I
plan to make a similiar patch for a DXR2 :)

I will try more later when I get home. But I'm sure
that I have /usr/bin/python symlinked to python2.3.
I've written python scripts and can run them in python
shell (or whatever it's called) and sys.version
returns 2.3.0 but when I add sys.version to code
runned by Freevo it says 2.2.2 (or someth

Hi, I have had a DXR2 setup in linux using mplayer in the past and have some
knowledge of mpeg encoding/mplexing.
Mybe the device /dev/em8300_mv expects a 'system stream', have you tried

??
Is there any other DXR3 device handles ?, mybe another one will accept a vi
Yeah.. I have a working dxr3 (hollywood+) in my freevo box..
I've got the same error that you have.. but all I had to do is to reboot,
and then it worked.
what do you get if you run em8300setup -q ? Does everything looks ok?
have you tried to run the card with mplayer (without freevo)
mplayer -vo d

It seems to start after you first start recording from /dev/dsp, way after
the modules are insta
Hi all,
I'm still having problems getting my dxr3 working with freevo,
The old post is what happens when I try to output an mpeg to the card...
When I run freevo with dxr3 set as the output, freevo complains that there
is no output device...
Anyone with a working dxr3 have any ideas?

Freevo will use whichever python is named /usr/bin/python; so if you
symlink python2.3 to python then it'll work. The thing to remember is
that you will need to make sure you have Python 2.3 versions of the
modules installed...
