result. I'm running L4D on Linux using Cedega, so it's no surprising to
run into little issues like this.

Works fine on my setup currently at 69.65.59.239:27015 (plus forks). I
haven't yet figured out the exact dimension that is displayed in-game to
adjust the graphic used, but it is definitely loading up the graphic and
also spitting out the motd properly. My motd.txt is html, however.

Hello,
I edited the motd.txt file and put in a standard welcome message and
other information (all plain text, no embedded HTML). I edited the
host.txt file to point to a jpeg file on our website, but it does not
show up in-game. All I see is an empty box where the banner should be.

Can you share details about the intended server list features
with us Erik as without these features its simply not worth
anyone hosting servers.

Quite we have are already stated we wont be supporting L4D until
features that allow communities to be built around servers are
added.

I've been toying around with "sv_search_key"... it seems to work only
if the servers are empty, of course... If the server could be set to
only allow clients with the search_key, I'd be set... oh well. Grr!

Then I hope VALVe likes hosting all servers themselves. Without clients
able to use their OWN server then they will not rent from professional
hosts. In that case, professional hosts wouldn't bother with the game
and you'd be left with VALVe alone hosting this game.

Are we going to beable to play on our own server?
Lets say I run a l4d server in my colo and am 1ms away from it.
I would want to play on that server. Can me and 3 friends connect to my
server by IP or do we HAVE to use the matchmaking system and just get
put on a random box?

You'll setup the MOTD and banner ad by editing the attached .txt files (which
are in the Left4Dead folder) to point at your images.
