Lee,
That's correct. ISPF is *not* needed for the RMS component of DFSMS ...
the component that supports the z/VM interface to the IBM 3494 Tape
Library (ATL or VTS).

You need to tell the FTP client to use
block mode, otherwise it does not respect blocking. Try TYPE E, MODE B (EBCDIC

This should *definitely* handle signals! Did SuSE turn this OFF in
their kernel, for reasons unknown? Anyone got any light to shed?
Something else is wrong, I suspect.

I have SP3 systems on z/VM 5.1 where this is working perfectly. Unless there is some
outstanding z/VM APAR affecting SIGNAL SHUTDOWN, there must be something seriously hosed
in Larry's Linux machine.

IIRC, you also have to make sure that you have set up inittab to handle the
signals propagated to Linux by VM.
Something like:
ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -h now
Could that be the culprit?

2. To get online help: one no longer needs to remove parts of the message

You are certainly correct. However, I didn't read that into the original email. It just mentioned 'systems'. Systems can be CPU, it can be VSE, it can be applications.
