Today I led a birding trip through the North Shore, as well as Sax-Zim Bog.
Our first bird of the day was a BOREAL OWL that we found. As the day
progressed, we found a SNOWY OWL, two GREAT GRAY OWLS (at the same time),
and ended the day with a GREAT HORNED OWL!
Sax-Zim Bog was fantastic, as we wer
Hi David,
Just Carl, no et al.
Please take a deep breath. Your post was not a review or in response to a

There was a very white snowy owl today along Mc Leod Co hwy 18 or Renville Co
11 (county hwy north of US 212) tonight. I would guess it was north of Buffalo
Lake in Renville County, but that is just a guess. Sorry I can’t be more
specific.

Dave was referring to a smartphone application he developed for birders to
submit their sightings of Minnesota birds to the MOU Seasonal Report database.
At the present time eBird does not offer this nor does any commercial software
product. Endorsements/Advertisements of eBird, Apple, or BirdsE

For those of us who use eBird, there's a great app, Bird Log, that
allows us to plug our sightings directly into eBird from our iPhone or
iPad. And we can see what's been reported to eBird, from Minnesota or
anywhere else, with the BirdsEye app. That's a great help when
traveling.

An application for your "smartphone" has been added to the MOU web site for
entering records of sightings. It is a "Beta" version, that has been checked
out with several smartphones and browsers. To access this application click on

A friend alerted me to the presence of a Great Gray Owl at her house,
along County Road 7, approximately 7 miles west of Grand Marais. It has
been actively hunting the meadows around her house for the last few
days. My friend has seen the owl catch several rodents, so apparently it

I got a call today about a "small" owl that died (last week) in a yard full
of bird feeders - two miles east of Warren and one mile north of State Hwy
1 on 310th Ave near the Snake River overpass.
I drove over and dug through last night's snow and found it... a Boreal
Owl. (a photo is posted on t

The evening grosbeak flock had really thinned out since Friday here at the
resort;
due to the very cold nightly subzero temps -40 and -35 last week. This morning
with a light snow falling & more moderate temps the Evening Grosbeak were ready
and waiting for the fresh bird seed around 8:00 AM.
