Bob Williams and I just found a Buff-breasted Sandpiper at the Walker
sewage ponds. The bird is foraging on the rocks along with six other
shorebird species in the southeast corner of the northwest pond.

John Hockema just called to report that he and others were observing 26
White-winged Crossbills at Hok-Si-La Park in Goodhue County. The birds
were feeding on the cones of White Spruce.
Looks like southern MN is going to experience a crossbill invasion this
winter.

John Hockema called to report that he found 4 Surf Scoters at the East
Landfill Reservoir in Olmsted County around 7:45 this morning. Two of
the birds were males in breeding plumage while the other two were
either females or juvenile/1st year males.

This afternoon Dedrick Benz and I found six Willets and one Hudsonian
Godwit at the Mapleton sewage ponds in southern Blue Earth County.
Also of note here were Bobolinks along the barbed wire fence enclosing

This morning there was a vocal and visible Red-breasted Nuthatch
foraging in the pine trees behind the Interpretive Center here at
Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. I'm assuming this bird is an
early migrant, as I have not seen or heard one here all summer.

the white spotting on the bird's back was difficult to see, but it was =
obvious that the primaries were black, lacking the Eastern's large white =

I just found a Cackling Goose at the golf course on the west side of
Lexington Ave. north of Como Ave. The bird is foraging next to what appears
to be a Lesser Canada Goose among a couple hundred Giant Canadas, so three
sizes of geese are present here.

Erik Collins just called to report that he relocated the Clark's Nutcracker
in the spot described yesterday in Ramsey County.

The Clark's Nutcracker is currently on the north side of CR I just west of
Hodgson Rd. in Shoreview. It has spent time on the bike path itself, as
well as in the trees on both the north and south sides of CR I.

About 15 minutes ago while looking at the nutcracker, I heard then saw a
small group of Red Crossbills flying south overhead.

I just found a small group of Bohemian Waxwings in a crabapple tree at the
intersection of Sherwood Rd. and Oakwood Dr. in Shoreview.

Several of us have been looking for the reported Ruff at Lake Byllesby for
over an hour without success. There are however 3 American Avocets visible
at the far western end of the lake, originally found by Scott Meyer.

Just watched an adult light-morph Swainson's Hawk fly overhead at the Bass
Ponds in Bloomington. Lots of hawks flying north this morning.

Just found an Eastern Kingbird on the south side of Hwy. 19 on the south
side of Lake Byllesby. One of my few April records for this species.

Around 6:15 this evening the 5 American Avocets on the southwest side of
White Bear Lake were flushed by an eagle and flew off in an unknown
direction. My attempts to relocate the birds elsewhere on the lake have so
far proven unsuccessful.
