My concerns are mainly theoretical, and probably
Thanks to everyone who responded. The Wimberly does appear to be the best one
suited for large lenses & probably what I will get. BTW John I already have the
Pentax A 1.4XL & 2XL convertors, I use them on my A* 300/2.8

You're on the right trac
e tripod mount fused
directly to the body (no "leg & foot" and it's fused at a fairly wide spot,
so I would want to make sure it fits. I don;t know about the 600 f4, but

Just a thought, but has anyone tried using quality telecope tripods with
these long lenses? These tripods are designed to render star images as sharp
points of light. Quality telescope tripods might cost more but they'd give
rock steady support. (If we have any astrophotographers on the

I use a Wimberley head, Kirk Arca-style QR, and Bogen
3021 tripod. If I had a bucketful of money laying
around, I'd get a Gitzo carbon-fiber tripod without a

I ordered my FA* 600 4.0 today & doing research on tripod/head combination to use
with it. The largest tripod/head combination I now have is the Manfrotto 075/268
(Bogen 3036/3038) which I know will not be adequate for this lens.
I would like to know what tripods & heads the list memb

I believe this must be a misunderstanding. It has a filter holder and comes with six
screw-in filters in addition to a clear glass filter; these are three

BC about pricing & to verify what accessories came with it. Staff at Leo's
product info said something about a built in rotary dial in type filter holder
with 6 built in filters. Staff at Pentax Van
