This is probably a crash or freeze related to the open source graphics
driver: 'nouveau'. Your GPU looks new enough to support the latest
proprietary Nvidia driver instead so I suggest trying that. Just open
the 'Additional Drivers' app and have a look.

Thanks again for those commands . . . I didn't know if removing the
whole crash directory was the way to remove those files . . . .
So I ran that command, then I did the "apt update" . . . but then I ran
"apt -f install" . . . and that showed a bunch of things to add and
subtract . . . s
I've tested the Focal-proposed initramfs-tools (version 0.136ubuntu6.3 )
according to the "Test Case" section in the description, and it's working as
expected. Also, the armhf autopkgtest failure is no longer an issue (test was
re-executed with success), so marking as verified!

This is a useful workaround, the fundamental issue is a coreutils issue
with dd. I wonder if the coreutils maintainers can figure out why dd has
an executable stack.

Well, it depends how you interpret the issue. Both USB audio devices
work, but they share the same description "USB Audio" in the drop down
menu.

This bug is back in Document Viewer/Evince(*) 3.36.7, at least under
Linux Mint 20 Ulyana.
Apparently, evince does not try to use exo-open anymore, but launches firefox
directly (or via a sh shell?!?!) :{
