Hi, I transcribed most of the Ubuntu Screencasts subtitles and as a guide it took me around 4-5 hours for a 30 min video. Granted, I'm not a fast typist and each line had to be sync'ed with the video/audio properly afterwards, so I'm sure this project will be much quicker. It definitely helps if

I use VirtualBox to do exactly that in Ubuntu, as far as I know it is also available for Windows. One thing to note is the NON open source edition is the one that allows you to share usb devices between the host and guest. I'm sure I saw a blog post recently describing how to fix that on
