Although version 3.5.3-2 seems a bit more stable, I am still

I imagine that if I submit a bug report, it's best that I use a version
of libreoffice direct from TDF rather than through my linux distro?

find all the answers about X,Y position.
You can also place the table in a frame who has its own X,Y coordinates

I ended up with a similar problem. What was happening was that somehow my
first page got defined as a cover page and so it wouldn't show the footer..
and then after that pages for split into sections some of which would show
the footer some of which wouldn't.. turned out to be a big mess.
