June 3 guestlistings for out-of-town DEMF visitors

2000-05-03 Thread Shane from PLURkids

Greetings,

In light of the fact that a few of you may be traveling to Detroit for the
DEMF from quite a distance, and might be staying for a few extra days:

WHAT:
Any people from as far or farther away than Toronto who wish may be
guestlisted for our June 3 (the saturday after DEMF) event in Detroit,
featuring the deep, funky, percussive house stylings of Kevin Yost
(i! Records NJ) and DJ Fluid (Om Records SF), as well as a 48-bin,
four-corner Turbosound Rig by Midnite Blue. Yep, it's a rave so be prepared
for a few of the newer school mentality to be about, but it's a clean 50,000
Sq. Ft. warehouse venue on fenced private property (with clean bathrooms,
natch), so there will be plenty of space to get your groove on without
getting run into by someone needing a backrub.

An electronic version of the flyer can be viewed online at
http://www.plurkids.com

HOW:
To get on the guestlist, simply email me no later than Thursday, May 25, at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with your full name, and the full names of anyone
attending with you. One ticket per person, and you'll need to present photo
ID (that looks like you!) proving how far away you are coming from on the
night of to gain entry.

CONFIRMATION:
I will send out confirmation of all guestlist requests via email. If you do
not receive confirmation via email, then you are not listed.

May all of your travels be safe - I can't wait for DEMF!

Talking of second albums, heard from Russ Gabriel that he has finally
finished the follow-up to the inspired Voltage Control. I'd like to take a
straw-poll of Ferox fans on the list (and GPR for that matter). How many of
you actually got to hear this brilliant piece of work. And how many of you
have been eagerly awaiting a second album from him over the last five
years?

I was a big fan of early Ferox and GPR output but never got a chance to hear
the album for some reason. Loved the Ferox and Equanimity comps though, and
the Russ Gabriel remix of Blue Arse Fly is an all time fave. Possibly coming
soon to a Real Audio mix near you...

Your new stuff sounds quite different from your earlier work. How do you
look back on albums as Voltage Control and Future Funk.

I think it all sucks.

Really?
Yeah. I think most people probably think the same. They like the newer
stuff they're doing. And maybe in two years time I will think the stuff I'm

Hey Tim and all,

Greetings from Singapore!

Talking of second albums, heard from Russ Gabriel that he has finally
finished the follow-up to the inspired Voltage Control. I'd like to take a
straw-poll of Ferox fans on the list (and GPR for that matter). How many of
you actually got to hear this brilliant piece of work. And how many of you
have been eagerly awaiting a second album from him over the last five years?

I have been eagerly waiting for his followup release to that for
bloody ages. I have been trying to get hold of every single release from
GPR. They are ow defunct but i must say they did release some awesome techno
records back then like the 7th Plain releases that are timeless recordings
by Luke Slater!

Well i think we miss those wonderful articles by you on Generator
was it back in 1994. I must say it is the better techno mags back then
besides Jockey Slut back then till probably Magic Feet came on and carried
on the techno flag flying in Bligthy. Days of 93 to 05 were spent reading
such mags and going out to Orbit and Back to Basics where they put on some
awesome parties!!

As for Brighter Daze, yes I have to confess that I am deep in the workings
of it right now. What line will it take? Well, it won't be the Generation
Ecstasy/Energy Flash style of cultural discourse and, regrettably, since
Kodwo Eshun is a far greater theorist than me it won't be Brighter Than The
Sun. But for those who read my Kraftwerk book or The Rough Guide To Techno
there are some pointers to be had there. But hey! - it ain't finished yet
so those who are quick with some feedback can enjoy some vicarious input at
the usual address. What I really want for Xmas is a book (and some more
records) by Tom Churchill ...

I hope to find a copy of your new book in Borders tomorrow. Hmm i
have not bought anything on Headspace or by Tim Churchill since HS 004. Kind
of clueless at the moment of things. Got to sort something out soon.

Have a nice weekend ahead and keep in touch!!!

Your techno friend in SIngapore,

Collin

New Purpose Maker

2000-05-03 Thread Stewart Moroney
Not sure who asked for info on the new Mills ep, haven't seen anyone else's
review so here is my take on it.

Pm-10 Circus ep

2 long (for purpose maker) mixes of the same track both featuring a sample
from Earth People's Dance (Bonus Beats) and the usual samba drums and
whistles ect. The A side The Greatest Show on Earth Mix (my favorite) is
on a more tribal vibe with a spidery synth part similar to scenario on the
More Drama ep. The second mix The Grand Finale Mix is not as frantic,
with extra samba drums and a different bassline.

I'm surpised no one else has mentioned this yet, is it cause everyone just
buys these without listening? Or does no one talk about them cause they
all sound the same now ;)
