md> What label is it on? Anything on CD or is it just vinyl. They

As far as I know, all of the Maurizio Bianchi CD reissues were on the
same label, EEs'T, which is an Italian archival label pretty much
started to reissue Maurizio Bianchi material. Pretty much everything
he's ever done has found its way onto one or another of his CDs.

If you're _really_ into pure synth tones that are too dry to be New
Age or pleasnt ambient and too tonal and affectless to be industrial,
you _might_ enjoy Colori. It shares almost nothing in common with any
of his earlier power electronics / isolationist ambient stuff, nor
does it share much in common with anything else, aside from test tone
records. Bianchi was trying to touch God through music, or something
of the sort, and _Colori_ is what resulted.

Words from the man himself:

http://www.wwa.com/~sdm/mbweb/mbdiscog/Colori.htm

"Fourteen years... they have gone, yes, and it has been time for
meditation and purification, in which I've gained full spirituality, a
true aim in my life, the lasting happiness which comes from serving my
God. In the meantime, the music operated inside me like a fire,
impossible to put out, and this flame has been slowly growing, day by
day, month after month, year after year, until it has become
uncontainable... here I have rediscovered ancient sounds and tastes,
together with new feelings and emotions, so yearning. So, my acquired
maturity has traced the road of my return, after 5,114 days...why?
Because I wanted to raise a hymn to the serenity and peace conquered
after many efforts... I wished to renew my present, trusting in a
sentimental-romantic inspiration, not tied up to any stereotype, but
associated with affective values, nowadays so rare and despised.
Finally, I've been helped to believe more in myself, not because I
have trusted in my limited capacities, but by virtue of He who
imparted me (and keeps imparting) strength and vigour. To Him be glory
and praise forever and ever."

If you really want to hear a newly-converted Italian jamming out with
some synths in a fairly minimal and abstract style, I'd recommend MB's
_The Plain Truth_ instead. It sounds like the Forbidden Planet
soundtrack.

Also keep in mind (and here's a hint for the befuddled on 313 and idm)
that this Maurizio has nothing to do with Moritz von Oswald or any
other beloved makers of techno using the name Maurizio, past or
present. Bianchi's all that and a bag of chips, but he belongs to an
entirely different musical tradition.

Forced Exposure is probably a good place to find his music. I know
that Aquarius Records in San Francisco keeps his more evil sounding
stuff in stock, as well (which implies that they could special order
_Colori_ for you if need be). His CDs are almost always filed under
the name "MB".

informatively yours,
ozy g

Yep, its a new release:
---
MILLS, JEFF: Time Machine CD (TOMORROW/AXIS). "Inspired and noted on the
novel Time Machine by H.G. Wells, this 43 minute sequed journey into time
travel explores the outer limits and stretches the boundaries of your mind.
Produced, mixed and edited by Jeff Mills. From instrumental stroytelling,
he propels the idea of not being in our time but, yet experiencing first
hand, places and things from another time. Past and future. Caution: This
release is only for the adventurous."

money tracks

2001-02-13 Thread RC
I don't play records out much, but once my friend had this party at Middle
Head on the North Shore of Sydney Harbour, it's actually army property the
decks and dancefloor were in this huge maze like concrete bomb shelter. The
acoustics were interesting to say the least, part of the shelter roof was
missing so you could look out over 180 degree views of Sydney Harbour.
Despite the amazing venue, the party seemed fairly stagnant, so I started
off with one of my favourite tracks:

KMS 047 Shakir's "Shock Therapy"

easily his best work that I own (IMO)

Goddam! Percussion was flyin' everywhere, and those nasty synth stabs,
sheeitt!

I don't know if that's when peoples stuff started to come on or what, but
the place was suddenly jackin'!

Incidentally does anyone know or have any more info for Shakir recording as
K.O.T. on Black Bottom records?

I think he did a track called "The Jit" for the label?

Is it his hip hop stuff?

& for Detroit list members Is the "Jit" still an acceptable manouvre on
Detroit dancefloors?

Peace,

Rc

Its based out of Seattle, Washington (on the US' west coast). Their prices
are fairly reasonable, but you'd be better off ordering straight from UR if
you already know the chune (as they're just a catalogue, no cut previewing
as per groovetech).

Also, a question for the more informed 313 users:

Ok, so I love Steve Rachmad, DJ Rush, Jeff Mills, Andrei Morant... who else
would I like? I really love that bangin' loop stuff, real minimal, but I
don't know any names really. Feel free to help me out.

"Can You Feel The Bass?" by Phortune is on an old Hot Mix 5 compilation
called "Acid LP". perversely, it's listed as "Can You Feel The Boss?" on
the sleeve! although this is quite an old record a bunch of copies surfaced
from somewhere around a year or so ago and Smallfish (www.smallfish.co.uk)
still has at least one copy.

it's also on the unmixed vinyl version of DJ Hell's X-Mix.

I don't think it is, the designs are similar: same font etc. I assumed it

The second Seesaw one was a double pack (sw93022)and has the
Mauritzio mix(which i believe is the only such thing he's ever done)
and a second Speedy J"G Spot"mix,as well as some realy average
ones from the more well known trance c of the era(Alici,Ralphi d,etc).
The last one came out on Rising High in the uk and was worthwhile
getting for the Mixmaster Morris"Iresistbl force" remix
btw the original tune was by the guys who were later better known as
Resistance D,and i hope they get royalties over it,as i keep on
hearing trax that sample it every 3-4 month just about,in the last 8 yrs

The Mauritzio mix is not the berlin based maurizio but a dutch guy
called Maurits Paardekoper. He recorded some nice tracks way back in
the early nineties but has gone all cheesy later on.

I don't think so,

very scarce. Mine's on Jack Trax FING 2,
I'm not sure if they're are other versions. Very nice even better than the
3xLP on Salsa ? which is still excellent, and more accessible

I hope u find it some day

I also have a copy of it on an old Jack Trax compilation (Jack Tracks

[evt][pdx] Feb 16 - Dan Bell, John Beltram, John Tejada, Kit Clayton

2001-02-13 Thread Dave Bate
Hello, I hadn't seen this Party that's going on in Portland posted
here. Any 313 members
in the Seattle or Portland area will want to check out this rare
opportunity to catch
so many 313 artists, as well as some excellent live sets at this
one of a kind Portland State presentation. The line up is below:

Dan Bell - 7th city/tresor/plus 8 classics /7thcity.com

Dan's production career initially began in hip hop, but that quickly
changed
after he became aware of the early Chicago house scene. Soon after he
met
Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman) and the two collaborated as Cybersonik
for
three years on Windsor, Canada's +8 Records. After relocating to Detroit

in 1991, he started his own label, Accelerate, which became home to his
trademark minimal productions. For four years Dan also co-owned and
operated
7th City Distibution which became an important catalyst for the third
wave
of Detroit-based labels. Dan has recorded under his own name and his
moniker
"DBX" for labels including Peacefrog (UK) and Tresor (Germany) and Klang

(Germany). He was also recently featured on Virgin recording artists'
Chemical
Brothers "Brothers Gonna Work it Out" mix c.d.; He currently
owns and operates the 7th City, Accelerate and Elevate labels.

Kit Clayton and Sue Costabile - orthlorng musork/cytrax (live a/v)

Kit Clayton is a basement freak. With little sunlight and musty
air, there he spends long days and late nights staring endlessly
into the 1024 by 768 pixel grid, toggling the monitor switch back
and forth between computers, between operating systems, drifting
between work and music. He forgets which of these similar activities
he is currently engaged in, as his work is typically constituted
by typing line after line of code, and his music is manipulating
row after row of digital audio tracks.
From this hole, he has poured himself into music for
labels such as Cytrax, Delay, Drop Beat, Mille Plateaux, Parallel,
Plug Research, Phthalo, ~Scape, and Vertical Form. From minimal
techno to melancholic dub to structured noise, Kit consistently
abuses technology, manipulating sounds in otherworldly ways, following
an old tradition of dub production.
If not behind the turntables, Kit plays his laptop--umbilical
cord to his basement womb. Improvisation through soundfile
manipulation/recombination,
granular synthesis, feedback chains, and other digital noisemaking
methods, his live music is a scattered exploration of sound rather
than a consistent recreation of his recorded music.
With minimal, noisy, post-processed music more suited
for other music geeks than the drug happy club kid, they occupy
a strange space within what might appear to be an increasingly
conservative world of Bang Bang Techno. And causing even more
trouble, Kit and Sue Costabile operate Orthlorng Musork, a label
which seeks to be defined only in its deviance to musical norms.
An outlet for marginalized music, it doesn't aim for continuity,
but rather a divergent path of sounds and structures unwelcome
in the status quo. Busy little bee, Kit also works as a computer
programmer for Cycling '74, the company responsible for Max/MSP,
a flexible environment for custom MIDI and DSP applications.

John Tejada - palette/7th city/defocus (live)

Born in Vienna, Austria, John Tejada was introduced
to music by his mother, an acclaimed soprano, and his father,
a musical conductor. At the age of eight he moved to Los Angeles
(where he still resides today) and eventually was shown to have
a natural ability to play several instruments. By the time he
was 16 he had become bored with traditional music and began to
experiment with new types of electronic music. Later, his unique
style of music was released on several European record labels
including A13 (U.K.), Multiplex (Denmark) and Generations R&S
(Belgium). John also has recently started his own label record
label , Palette, and also records as "Mr. Hazeltine" for Plug Research.

test: - testsite.org (live a/v)

TEST: is a collaborative arts group dedicated to using projection in
performance and installations. Artists Gregory Cowley, Scott
Arford, and Kaveh Soofi have combined their backgrounds in visual
arts, sound, electronics, programming, architecture, and performance
to create all-encompassing time-based environments out of light and
sound. These spectacles manipulate the cinematic elements of image,
sound and narrative in order to confront the viewer with a visceral
experience.
Each performance is an exercise in the loud and quiet, dynamic and

static. Synchronized banks of slide projectors are used to project,
animate, and transform static images into simple forms of perceptual
continuity. Multiple banks of projectors are controlled by laptop
computers via. custom-built circuitry and mechanics. This
combination of high-tech and low-tech allow dense fields of
photographs to flood into the performance space.

coming from the D: Blueprint

2001-02-13 Thread Kent williams
I'm reviewing this for a magazine, so I won't go deep here,
but Intuit Solar and the artists involved should be very
proud of the "Coming From Tha D: Blueprint" CD. Excellent
tracks from people who don't get a lot of broad exposure
yet, but deserve it. Watch for it, kids!

FLATPLASTIC | VERSION 9.0

2001-02-13 Thread Giles Dickerson
FP! supporters //

with requests for archives of past shows and my desire to do shows
randomly I have modularized FP! to maintain all shows based on a date,
rather than a weekly format. A printable window will include the
tracklisting for trainspotters and record shoppers, flatplastic
influences the music you buy, so why not give you a tracklisting you can

take with yo to the store? Please enjoy the first mix, a little rough
around the edges, been quite busy lately, but it's very enjoyable.
Please enjoy :

Make sure you have the flash 5 plug in.

Kevin Saunderson on GT

2001-02-13 Thread d . pinter
For those like me who missed the live broadcast of Kevin's set on Groovetech UK
last Saturday, I just saw that it has been posted on the Archive list. Also
there is another Tea time set from the Orb - the other's in this series have
been unique and worth a listen (once you get bored of Kevin's set of course)

new on list -URGENT help needed

2001-02-13 Thread Recoil >
Hi - I spin oldskool hardcore/jungle/d&b in Toronto, but i want knowledge on
some styles of techno -can aomeone please please help me? I have a link here
to Dream Escape Live broadcast,

http://www.dream-escape.org/realmedia/live.ram
but this is what they run when they are off-air, so it is only on at certain
times of the day (from around 2:00 AM EST ->?) - this is exactly the kind of
shit i want to move into, but i have no idea what labels or artists are
making stuff that sounds like this - can someone listen to the first 20
minutes or so and tell me what style this is? track IDs would be greatly
aprreciated, cuz all the tunes in the first 20 minutes -especially the one
the intro, the one at 4:40, and 12:40- but all of em really- Everytime i go
into a record store i'm looking for stuff like this but i never find it-
they only have the really harsh banging droning type stuff- can anyone help?
i'm at the end of my rope and need knowledge (remember, the recorded clip is
running for now, but when the live show comes on it you'll have to wait for
it to be off-air again)

thanks in advance

Liam

OOOPS. Something went wrong. This mail was for a different mailing list, namely
the
lowlands
list. I am sorry. This was not meant for any 313 listmember!

I am NOT a communist, I like capatilism. Due to the fact that this is mailed in
the
totally
wrong context (that is not the correct mailinglist/thread :) ) it does not make
sense at all!

sorry sorry and again sorry for this.

ok,,, peace.

Reminder: TECHNO RADIO 003 TONIGHT

2001-02-13 Thread MonsieurBob
Tonight we are proud to present the 3rd edition of TECHNO RADIO. We will be
broadcasting in St. Louis on KWUR 90.3 FM, or you can tune in via the internet
by pointing your web browser to http://kwur.wustl.edu (note, i hear the
nibblebox server works best for streaming audio.)

We have some very special local guests coming in to rock tha' joint. DJ Hypo &
DJ Foster will be playing around 10pm. They'll be dropping you some straightup
techno terror. We'll also have a lot of fun things to discuss. Tune in to
these guys, they rock!

Next week we will have another special guest come in for a very special show.
DJ Cougar Shuttle will be coming into the KWUR studios to help us drop you some
Detroit Techno. This will be an ALL DETROIT TECHNO show, representing the phat
beats from the past, present, and future. We hope to educate you on some of
the progression of techno, and just sk00l you on techno some stuff, as well as
maybe expose you to an artist or two you haven't heard of. Expect to hear some
bangin beat from the techno elite. Tune in Detroit!

I will be sending out tonights playlist tommorow once the show is done. Don't
worry, we record every show, and as soon as we can find someplace that will let
us store our MP3 archive, we'll shoot you the link. We hope the playlist
educates you on techno music, as well as shows the world that this stuff does
get some airplay. Recently we had a producer in the UK give us thanks for
playing his track. He said none of the music we played would have ever gotten
played in the UK, because of the government restrictions. We're proud to be
playing the stuff you normally wouldn't hear, and the stuff you love to get
down to. Also, nibblebox.com has said that TECHNO RADIO was the #1 show on
Tuesdays from 9-11pm. They gave us some fancy plaque and $10 gift certificates
to McDonalds. I hope I can bring you more info on this great award next week.

Tune in, Turn Up, TECHNO!

We hope you listen tonight. Any and all feedback is highly encouraged and
appreciated, so hit me up if you want to hear something, wanna gripe, or pat us
on the back/butt.

With Thanks, and a lot of good techno for ya',

I was just curious about the detroit electronic music festival this year. Is
it going to happen? If so when?
I'm from the east coast and have never been to the midwest and I want to get
my tickets early.

Any help would be appreciated.

Peace,
