Hanna CD

2001-03-09 Thread Minto George

From: Tom Robbins [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Just listening to Hanna's 'Scarlet Manifesto' CD on
Shadow. Having
heard his
stuff on Planet E, Nepenta, Track Mode (the new one
just promoed) etc,

Planet E??? Are you getting Hanna confused with Carl's
wife Hanah? Hanna (Warren Harris from cleveland) as
far as I know has not done a record for planet e...
but he has done a supurb album on Sublime called
Severence and EPs for Metamorphic, Nepenta, Paper and
soon stuff to be released on Panhandle too from what I
hear. Hope the trackmode one is as nice as all the
rest of his stuff. It's like techno meets rb...dope
stuff! If there is something out on planet e...any PE
reporters wanna give us the 6 O'clock weather update?

I was
surprised to discover that this LP is drum'n'bass!
Not many producers
can
cross the genres like this. Couldn't really tell you
if it's any good
though - d'n'b ain't my thing. No idea what I'm going
to write in the
review
either!

i think that posting people's identities on a list like 313 is wrong, and
i

*will* be a bitch about this until you respect peoples' anonymity. let
artists reveal themselves or credit themselves as they see fit, not
because

you need another tidbit of info...

it's in poor taste to talk about people's business in a one-on-one
situation, let alone a large mailing list.

cut pasted from a previous post to 313:

i think if you respect an artist (or a collective of artists like

could cause problems...

Moonstarr Jwan Allen preview...

2001-03-09 Thread Gerald
 ..on Equinox http://www.1Groove.com/show.php?s=equinox

The show (which you can listen to, till next weeks show) features a
preview of Moonstarr' 1st LP on PTR Music, entitled Dupont. It's really
difficult to pin down the sound on this one - it features broken beats,
techno, bossa nova, and hip hop producton styles. It is definitely a
unique sound, which has to be heard to be believed! Some might remember
his live performance last August, (at The Detroit Grand Pubah's video
release party at Temple) and know what I'm talking about here.
The feature starts at 1:19:00, and goes till 1:39:30.

Also on the show, I played about 1/2hr of a mixed set from Jwan Allen
(Technoir) of Pittsburgh. Which was recorded from the I Love Techno
party, last November. His set starts around 1:43:30, and goes till
2:19:00.

record label websites

2001-03-09 Thread Dave Barnett
Why is it that some of the most forward thinking artists and record labels
around today have some of the worst websites for information (out of date
info, pages and pages of flash intros.)

Two big exceptions (that i can think of) to this are the AXIS RECORDS and
PURESONIK websites, With lots of weblogs appearing these days i would like
to see labels supplying more up-to-date info, what do you think?.

Release dates of records, where to obtain online, artist bios, sound files,
news that is current, email mailing lists etc.

I am interested in what makes a good record label website?, what things do
you like to see, etc?

Also in another web/313 related thread..
It sounds like their will be more techno tourists from around the world
visiting Detroit this year for the 2nd DEMF, it would be good to have a
permanent website that is full of information (aimed at people who are into
Detroit techno) on where to stay, where to visit, shop etc - maybe one
already exists?.

funny then how the new landing page for Pure Sonik (after the flash

Hi,

I've long since been wondering which track features as the opening track of
Derrick Carter's mixtape of mixtapes 'Dialog: Head vs Heart'.

It's a saxy house track with the following lyrics: He's a player, player,
he'll get next to you, he's a player, player, this is what he'll do, he'll
shoot you down, right down to the ground

Any leads?

Also big ups to all the Londoners who supplied me with cool places to see and

Re: [313] where the %^^ is Clutch Cargoes?????

2001-03-09 Thread george . jones
Well... First you go down the street, then you make that one turn. After
that you'll want to go down a ways until you see Big Willie, he'll be
standin' on the corner. Don't ask him for directions 'cause he doesn't know
how to get there. You keep goin a few miles until you come to the freeway.
Don't get on it. You went too far, turn around and go back 'till you see a
big street. You wanna go north. Drive for like 20 minutes and you'll be
close. You'll come to another big street, make a left. You'll be lost now.
Ask someone for directions.

I couldn't resist. :)

Re: [313] i found new detroit music

2001-03-09 Thread Jonny McIntosh
Oh dear... Who are they? You and your specially invited mates. Give it a
 rest.

 what???

Unsel, care to enlighten us all?

 http://www.dancedance.com

Based on the fact that DJ Heat's mails to the list have all been related to
the notorious Unsel Brown I assumed he's been doing him a bit of promotion.
I'm mightily confused by your last two posts, and if this was just legit
posting by DJ Heat, I apologise. It still looks like shameless badly
disguised self promotion to me, though, whether Unsel's records are any good
or not :) though I'll happily stand corrected, mind.

Jonny.

WHat are the dates?
the website Nick sent is not working

and no, I am not going. I will be at DEMF of course

I am inquiring to get the dates and because someone
may choose to play there instead of DEMF and I am
trying to convince otherwise.

thanks ...

The reason that there aren't any Detroit acts on

 That's some heavy

Re: [313] where the %^^ is Clutch Cargoes?????

2001-03-09 Thread Michael Kim

I-75 to M-59, take M-59 all the way until it ends. it's on your left side
about half a mile after it ends, big purple letters can't miss it.

sorry for the off-topic post, but I wonder if some kindhearted 313 local
might tell me how to get from the Ambassador bridge to Clutch Cargoes. It's
in Pontiac in a church...No? What's the best way to get there?
I posted to this list last week about the New Deal playing in Detroit. They
were supposed to play at the Shelter, but the show has been moved to Clutch
Cargoesdamn.

Any help is much appreciated,

jeff

2001-03-09 Thread Mxyzptlk
I think the easiest way would be I-75 north all the up to M-59 west. This will
take you right into Pontiac ...M59 crosses Wide Track just as you come into
town and just after you cross it, you have to turn left and go up to a light to
catch it again (M59 is one way from the other direction, so you have to do a
little jog to rejoin it where it is again two-way). The church of which you
speak is right there on your left as you make that turn. Basically you should
look for parking as soon as you cross Wide Track. If you can find none there,
you can always go up to the light (which is M59 = Huron Street), turn right and
then take the first left. There's a public lot down about a block or so on your
right.

Need someone to tell me what
Moodymann tracks are on these
respective comps:

Adventures In Techno Soul (Ferox)
Abstract Fusion (Trackmode/Music Is)

(Is the latter just a track from
the MU001 EP he did for Music Is?)

Also, anyone know if there are any
other comps w/exclusive KDJ/Moodymann
tracks? I'm guessing not .
